How much of Advance is exactly what was originally planned is up for debate. The leaked demo promised a lot more than what was in the final game (granted, it seemed like they were biting off a bit more than they could chew even then), and there’s a bunch of continuity nods to games released later. It feels more like a budget prequel under the guise of the cancelled game rather than the cancelled game proper.

I actually forgot about this game, even though I was really excited when it was announced. I'll probably pick it up since I've already played the rest of the series.

Publishers were also hesitant because of expensive cartridge costs. It needed an 8MB or 16MB cartridge, and yet, Shantae GBC released on 4MB (the most expensive GBC cartridge)

Sometimes I wonder what it'd be like if Capcom bought the IP instead of just publishing the GBC game.
