Its all about speed running Alicia to capture camps in 2 turns, the game doesn't reward using other characters or strategies at all, besides killing few aces and getting their guns.
Did they fixed things on the sequels ?

Considering you described the exact same strat I used for 4, probably not.
Only 3 did it.
You can try 4 as they tried to address that by changing mission objectives or adding gimmicks, but it still remains the best strategy although it's not easy to abuse this time
I doubt you did
Waited ages to play it since the ps3 and...
damn
4 has way more options for cheesing, but they also fixed the ranking system such that you don't need 1~2 turn for A-ranks.
2 is terrible. 3 is the direction the series should have kept going in. 4 is just a more refined version of 1. Selvaria is hot as fuck. That's all.
spoiled yourself on tactics
cheese the game
ruin it for yourself
sad
3 is the only fun one
1 > 2 > 3 > 4 > R
1 has a difficulty mod
Yeah I was about to say.
OP got cucked by his own metafaggotry in a single player game
Both 2 and 3 are better as games because they had time to figure out some design problems. They are stuck on PSP with its own inherent limits, though.
You don't get the orders you need to completely trivialize the game with Alicia until hours in and even then you wouldn't necessarily immediately know that's what you should do. It sounds like you just read about the op bullshit tactic and ruined your entire playthrough by obsessing over it, your own fault. Anyway, no, none of the sequels ever really addressed the problems in VC1, the series could have been something great but they were content to settle with mediocrity.
I always wished Sega had handed off the property to one of their euro strategy studios who could have made a more compelling campaign framework around the combat, basically turn it into Jagged Alliance but with VC's intuitive combat.
just don't read anything at all about the 10 year old game until you buy it
blithely wander around pretending that you're playing the game it's intended to be played
then when you figure out the ranking system, and get the orders that allow Alica to win the game in two turns, finish the game and play new game +
now play the game the way it's meant to be (completely differently from how you might have assumed it was supposed to be played) and get good rankings on missions
Yeah this isn't good game design. It wasn't good game design 20 years ago when I was a kid and games did this more often and it's not good game design now.
They need to create remakes for 2 and 3, unencumbered by PSP hardware. Its also a crime that 4 was released with a goddamn 4 in its name curtailing sales, since it takes place at the same time as 1. It should have been
Valkyria Chronicles: Federation Front
or something.
I didn't read anything and had fun.
User issue, who the fuck cares about "the way it's intended to be played"(by who, anyway? Certainly not the devs)
Sega listened to very easily pleased "people" instead of making it something actually special and could be a real competitor to Fire Emblem.
walking a straight line through a curvy dirt road
RUAGHHHH VEG-TA-BLES!
RUAGHHHH VEG-TA-BLES!
RUAGHHHH VEG-TA-BLES!
RUAGHHHH VEG-TA-BLES!
muh scores
They are stuck on PSP
So they're worse.
Would be better if it wasn't tied to EXP but sure, OP is a faggot.
I beat the game without a single A rank on my first attempt, just trying to slowly advance through the maps.
the only thing 4 did wrong was 100% of the writing and characters
it sold fine
Avan also SUCKS
Did they fixed things on the sequels ?
Slightly, however they did implent other broken shit instead.
Also why are you even playing for good ranks? The game is easy enough and gives you enough resources to play even with bad ranks.
Go make epic battles, start using the tanks for fun, kill everyone, push the frontline.
1 > 2 > 3 > 4 > R
Based, I can't believe I'm not the only who actually liked 2.
The Japanese version actually has a "Eastern Front" subtitle, also still has the 4...
I liked 2 from what I played of it desu, have yet to play all of em though. I had stopped playing 1 because of the dumb super tank real early into game where you climb an shoot into it. >-@
No one actually played 2 or 3 and the people saying 3 are better are an even larger minority of deranged weebs who probably didn't even use the translation patch.

You can only do this with endgame stats. Why are you lying?
I also really liked 2. It's stupid story wise, but I feel like it does the best at letting you hang out with all your random allies and giving them unique personalities which made it more fun for me to build and use them. Like in 1, most units aren't even characters besides like the 4 ones that talk and 3 spent so much time jerking off characters from past games that most of the squad is irrelevant.
3 > 4 > 1 > 2
1 is a shit tier tactics game even without Alicia cheesing. It's too simple and only jerked off by the VC equivalent of Genwunners that ignore the rest of the series.
This is the absolute worst opinion someone can have.
any game that has women fighting in the army is dogshit.
Vague response posts like this are only made by retarded faggots.
I love this series but yeah I can't blame you, it never really fixes the speedrunning issue and it's even worse when the rank system is pushing you to do it.
It's only VC4 that kinds of tried with better mission objective, sometimes. You do have to hunt for aces on a first playthrough, I forgot if it applies to the first game though. 3 was also a better game imo but you still always better off racing through the levels as efficiently as possible.
Although really it's worth playing for the story there's still some nice missions.
I agree with this overall, in term of gameplay I'm not sure it's been so long since I've played the older entries.
Nothing with a 4 is going to sell "fine", the publishers and everyone claimed that it underperformed. Now, if its reasonable or not to underperform is its own argument, but there's a know trend of sequels losing a percentage of sales on people who didn't play the previous game; this goes double if they're not sure if it is connected or not. Considering 2 and 3 aren't even on any of the major platforms that the remastered VC1 was (and 3 wasn't ever officially released in the West), people passing it over because they think they're missing out on part of the story (and not knowing which are continuous or not) is reasonable.
I know, they should have stuck just with the subtitle and no 4, given the positioning of the story and time since the last VC game was widely released etc. In Japan maybe they'd be fine with selling only to the fans of the series but in an era where global sales and outreach is almost expected and you can do it right (especially Sega - the whole RGG games is a good example going from believing that PC was a little bonus to realizing that it was their primary platform and greatest long tail sales, when they didn't censor and kept it as accurate as possible to the Japaneseness of the experience as intended), they'd be better off
it's fine if they're hot.
sausage fest games are also dogshit for faggot
Nothing with a 4 is going to sell "fine",
it sold fine, not reading the rest you are a retard.
All of them have their stupid story moments, 2 simply has the most of them but I think it's still enjoyable and it has the best antagonists in the series and the only cunny valkyria.
kek
I never knew about that shit when I played it and so I went through the game normally, using everyone in my squad. This is strictly a (You) problem.
Also why are you even playing for good ranks?
Why else would I play it?
not all missions are about capturing a flag, so you can't just always buff a scout and send it. Sometimes you have to defend, sometimes you have to destroy tanks or other high defense units, there are escort missions too... The buff a scout and beat the game is a meme born out of this board from lies and people who don't play games and just goes around parroting things because it's funny.
