Factorio: Space Age

Factorio thread
You... DID finish space age, right?
You at LEAST reached the Edge of the Solar System, right?

I... I got filtered by Gleba... I'm sorry bros.

Yes, stop asking.

No. I was so disgusted with myself after enslaving biters I stopped that save entirely

Yes, but Aquilo was fucking garbage.

didnt even finish the base game im not autistic enough for this shit

No I got to vulcanis and got bored

nah aquilo is perfect, simple and desolate as opposed to the other infinite resource planets

i finished aquilo, which i liked, but got bored after that

Not only did I beat it, I modded space lanes to be a minimum of 10x longer; the journey to the edge was 3.6 million kilometers, took me 6-8 hours. Was a wild ride for sure.

perfect

having to toss infinite ice in magic recyclers is retarded

having to heat pipes full of boiling flourothane is also retarded

Nah, I got bored after Gleba

It's beautiful and the atmosphere is great.
But mechanically, the barrenness is garbage for such a resource-intensive game.

that's the point, it's testing your logistics

Playing it right now and getting filtered by spoilage

anonymous spoilage has been separated from the nutrient loop and thrown in a heating tower

anyone play any modded planets? interesting to see what people are coming up with
i did a second run of Space Age with the Muluna mod, which is supposed to be Nauvis' moon
it was... kinda lame. there isn't exactly a central gimmick. it's still super in development, though.
I imagine in a year there will be tons of planet mods, but I'm unsure how many planets I can handle before I get burnout before finishing the game, 4 is already quite a bit

la structure.png - 1080x1364, 2.05M

I didn't beat the game.
Every always get filtered once I reach blue science and need to remade all my factories.
Space? What is space?

blue science

anon... you haven't even started the game

fucking BLUE

Are you...?
Do you have sub-90 IQ or something?

I'm on my second playthrough making Vulcanus my main base since it's so easy to produce everything.

Bro got filtered at his first dungeon at level 20 in World of Warcraft.

Do you have sub-90 IQ or something?

Probably. I just restart and start anew. I can't beat analysis paralysis.

Feel the same way

automate blue

right so what's next

WELL REPEAT THAT SHIT OVER AND OVER AND MAK E IT THE SAME EACH TIME LOLZ

erm, right.

Actually I remember getting up to trying to automate yellow science and immediately got filtered now that I think about it

I remember just thinking 'so basically, you just need to massively overbuild and end up trying to fight biters like a retard'

I think that was the bigger filter - biters aren't a problem but still need to be 'fought' and by the time you 'fight' them, you never lose but it's tedious as fuck

I unironically feel like hacking in a fucking spidertron sometimes or else the research for artillery

I got spage but this shit will consume my life again so I've been putting it away.

file.png - 301x106, 51.12K

I made some legendary 240sps designs but it required a lot of legendary prod modules and copious amounts of legendary stack inserters to keep up qith throughput so I'm kind of sitting on it right now.
Inserters fucking suck for high throughout, just let me unload directly from the machine without delay.

a tank with good ammo trivially crushes even evolved biters

Biters are trival. I just dislike how I have to actively fucking deal with their nests. It just takes away the concept of 'automate'

if there were recipes you could build that reduced evolution factor that would kinda be that, i was hoping dsp would figure this out but it looks like their stupid tower defense ideas made the problem even worse

Just stop.
Whenever you think to yourself "I can re-do this to be better" just be like "nah if it works it's good enough".
You can apply this to a lot things in life, really.

I did not, i got Aquilo done, got some railguns and killed a big demolisher and that was that. My choise was go back to the other planets to set up the materials needed to make the chips for the railguns or stop playing. I really did not like Aquilo its got nothing going for itself and just becomes a waiting list for the other planets

Every always get filtered once I reach blue science and need to remade all my factories.

You are the same kind of retard as me, do NOT try to set it big scale up all at once, get just 8 assemblers working and let it drain your other research to get a little going

mfw circuit networks, combinators, wires

I used to get filtered by those too. Until Gleba and Fulgora forced me to experiment with them, now I love them.

You at LEAST reached the Edge of the Solar System, right?

Yes, that's as far as I went, and no further.

So... anyone here actually get to the Shattered Planet?
The 'science productivity' always seemed redundant to me since you've basically researched all the unique research anyways by the point you even get to Aquilo, so I never bothered.

Gleba unironically killed any form of enjoyment i had for Factorio. Then it wasn't just the idea that Aquilo was after Gleba, it was the notion that i would again have to rip out a brand new space ship and WAIT for the FUCKING ROCKET ANIMATION to complete. 1 rocket or 100 rockets, didn't matter. "Oh what's that, the rocket didn't build fast enough? lol. silo doors closed, so now you get to watch them open again."

Imagine myself completing Aquilo

Game: "ok do it again to actually win, lmao"

Factorio is the game autists like me learn that it actually is possible to do the same fucking thing too many times, to the point where it breaks the original source of enjoyment. Modifications can't fix that and now the game is going to remain permanently uninstalled and hidden from the normal game library.

Just like RuneScape did back in some period of 1-2 years after that "game" released when i realized 56 mining was going to be the fucking same as 65 mining (as 99 mining) and it was all just fucking pointless time wasting shit meant for children who had no frame of reference for what "fun" actually is or means.

"We are Borg! Resistance is futile!"

"Quality" not mentioned once in this thread

I'm impressed, Anon Babble
so... what did you think of quality as a mechanic in Factorio?

pete.jpg - 666x666, 90.8K

Would rather have colorswaped buildings made of imported off world materials with a stat boost that the rerolling shit we got

not being able to make items out of mixed mix quality components at all, even just to waste high quality parts for normal crafting, is very annoying. Overall I don't particularly like it but wouldn't say I hate it.

No, I stalled myself by wanting to make Big bases on each planet before leaving and lost the will to continue
I've completely flattened Vulcanus, at least all the smol worm sections, I just can't be bothered to continue

Quality

I just ignore it.
There's apparently two or three things that greatly benefit from quality, but I just don't care.

I spent a long time making a casino space ship that does nothing but fly circles around the system collecting resources from asteroids and grinding it through row after row after row after row of quality modded grinders. I got enough to produce some basic legendary items, but at that point I kind of stopped giving a shit about the game. There's a point where you can't reasonably make more legendary stuff without having first researched like 10+ levels of certain productivity recipes.

Fuck legendary holomium too.

I want them to officially implement custom tier names. Making "epic" and "legendary" belts and inserters is fucking stupid

I want them to officially implement custom tier names. Making "epic" and "legendary" belts and inserters is fucking stupid

Okay, Anon Babble, what should the 5 tiers of quality be named? One thing for sure they got right were the colors (a la borderlands rarity colors)

56 mining was going to be the same as 65 mining (as 99 mining)

IMG_7297.jpg - 516x625, 154.48K

Simple
Standard
Superior
Supreme
Sexy

biggest problem was they gated existing stuff instead of making new stuff

I just got to aquilo, it was fun but I should take a break for a while.

If they nerf asteroid recycling and other creative ways to upcycle quality, I would be so pissed. I heard rumors that they would be nerfed for "balance reasons" in 2.1 (fucking why? it's a single player game besides maybe the grand total of 20 people that gives half a shit about Factorio pvp)..

I can't beat analysis paralysis.

Is that what it's called? I have the same problem. Neat that it actually has a name.

That looks sick, anon, very cool design!

I'm glad they added it since it is a realistic mechanic. That's how we have different types of graphics cards and CPUs: They're all the same card with different quality levels.

But of course. I admit I rushed Aquila a bit since I felt rather full at that point even if I did love the atmosphere of the planet. My ship made it to the edge, almost without damage.

The real terrorism of shit game design:

Seeing something in a totally new game in a completely unrelated genre, and relating it 100% accuracy to another thing you fucking despised 20+ years ago.

I lost faith in the devs after they added "quality". 400 hours of play, but I will probably never try Space Age.

images.jpg - 312x162, 6.67K

just don't research it
it can't hurt you

Yeh, it was getting pretty dull by the end but the same is true of every overhaul mod so I can't hate too much.

matachin.jpg - 1196x3678, 2.24M

Gleba killed my interest. I made a toilet system, and it works but I just dont like spoilage. The limits on where you can plant seeds is a pain.

Aquilo is what I hate most in the game, liquids and shipping shit in space. Buuut I like the sea block challenge aspect.

You can just ignore quality.

Also Gleba complainers are giga brainlets.

filtered once I reach blue science

with your IQ, im surprised you could even solve the captcha

I liked it on my first playthrough, but on the second it was very awkward.

I shouldn't bother setting up quality yet until I unlock Tier 3 Quality modules from Fulgora

I shouldn't bother setting up quality yet until I unlock Asteroid Reprocessing from Vulcanus

I shouldn't bother setting up quality yet until I unlock Epic quality from Gleba

I shouldn't bother setting up quality yet until I unlock Legendary quality from Aquilo

What do I do with all this legendary equipment now? The game is over.

fug.jpg - 600x797, 60.78K

go balls deep over a week or so

drop the game for a bit to get back in the wage cage

come back, have no idea how any of my pasta processors work anymore

make a new save

I've dominated gleba 5 times over and the delusions have made this the most satisfying planet for me

I ran out of steam at the start of Gleba because I kept having to go back to Nauvis and kill biters. I don't rate the interplanetary stuff but I do like the different planets individually. Any planet start is good but now each planet is a bit too short and the full game is way too long. I don't know what goals I need to set to have a satisfying time with Space Age.

I kept having to go back to Nauvis and kill biters.

You're doing it wrong.

decide to put quality modules into everything on Fulgora

takes forever to get started because of course i forgot to ship the modules

have to sort through triple the sushi

entire recycler complex is running at -20% speed

can't use speed beacons because it fucks your quality chances

keep running out of holmium and circuits because some of it comes out as green/blue and you can't mix recipes

There's probably a good way to build a factory around quality but that definitely wasn't it.

My autism is not high functioning, and I'm still stuck on Nauvius. Even prior to space age. Having OCD over how to route everything for chemical science but because I built everything too far I had to use a train to transport plastic, sulfur and batteries to my main base. Then I realiszed that my factory just sucked fundamentally because I managed to get that far with only one full red belt of iron and eventually, I lost interest with how much work I would have to put in to fix it. I enjoy problem solving but I tend to mentally ragequit a lot and come back to it in pieces.

Gleba was actually my favourite planet. But I did import the factory from Vulanis, including green belts. I only built a a small small bacteria ore farm to produce the trickle of rocket parts / ammo / repair packs that are needed to keep Gleba ticking along.

I would never rawdog Gleba.

what did you think of quality as a mechanic in Factorio?

Quality would have made a lot more sense if resources weren't completely infinite in space.
Only 0.001% of materials will be legendary? No problem, just copy and paste the space station 9001 times.

would've been better with just normal, rare, epic

Great mechanic. Lets you push the game soo much further.

not being able to make items out of mixed mix quality components at all, even just to waste high quality parts for normal crafting, is very annoying

yes

i researched it and it hurt me

nauvis deep sea / underground dlc when
