Standard will never be "the main format" ever again. You're not going to convince the new edh players to play the format that has rotation, even if you change how rotation works. You're also never going to convince them to stop their commander nights to instead play FNM.

The only way you can bring it back is to hard revert the game back to 3 standard sets a year, only make edh precons once a year, and hard design the game to be focused on STANDARD. Bring back standard event decks and precons, and make FNM worth going to, and DON'T TURN IT INTO A FUCKING 4 TURN FORMAT. This can't happen even if Wizards wanted it to, because Hasbro needs Wizards to keep increasing their profits.

They fucked up by Kaladesh standard in 2016 by having consecutively busted card after busted card that pushed all the Standard players to Modern, then they fucked that up too by making Modern Horizons, so now these players said fuck it and just played EDH, and you had more and more people play EDH. You cant just have 90% of your business model catering to EDH, its unsustainable, and card design philosophy suffer for it (Nadu)

Wizards scorned standard and pioneer players with 2 years of neglect and modern players by rotating their format. Modern went from 3 nights a week at my store to barely getting 1 because MH3 made all of their decks bad and they were tired of this song and dance. Standard isn't even listed at the shop anymore.

And I know this isn't an anecdote because Wizards has desperately been trying to revive standard by changing rotation rules, but it's not working because edh players are not ever going to play standard. No constructed player base means nobody is going to big events or supporting local stores. Which means your only way of keeping relevancy in the hobby space is by making big flashy crossovers for redditors to pogface at, but how many crossovers can you do before people start to lose interest entirely?

60 card formats are designed for one on one. EDH is designed for a free for all between four players. Format rules and legality informs a lot of what the game is "supposed" to be.

Also, cards have undergone formatting changes over the last several years that makes their designs just as effective in multi-player formats as 1v1, such as changes to edict effects which specify "each opponent".

You play the fetch, order the +2/+2 to resolve first, and then with the power double still unresolved on the stack crack the fetch for a land, putting another +2/+2 and a second power double on the stack. +2/+2 resolves to make tifa a 5/6, and then the power double from the cracked fetch, and then the original double from playing the fetch for a total of 20 power.

Unironically the colored cycling cost requirement is what keeps this in check (not to mention the 4 MV cost to actually play), but yes this type of thing can be a valuable way to up your consistently.

The other issue is that all formats are insanely fast now due to how pushed everything is thanks to them not understanding the damage done by having commander focused cards legal in other formats.

There was a boss in 11 that, on first implementation, took an organized guild well over 18 hours or something to fight and they didn't even beat it.

I unironically would love mog from xiii-2 (xiii was my first game and subsequently the remaining trilogy), but they already said only mainline titles are in this set no sequel/spin offs
