That UI is so ass!
Its basically Abyss but better (same team, more budget, stronger system). It has the good JRPG tropes and very little of the bads. Its a great game but one could argue its more because it kept its own highs in check so to not have many flaws while most jrpgs try something and always have some glaring flaws.
Its also zoomers first JRPG. But even so, I think it deserves to be on the top 25, or at least on the top 35.

BD2, as much as I loved it is hard for me to argue because it's story was lacking and I remember the endgame devolving into counter attacks for everything, though that might have been more about side bosses than the final boss.

It's a visual novel with a crappy combat minigame inbetween cutscenes.
Having good music or plot isn't a selling point. If that's what you want to enjoy, there're better mediums than fucking videogames. Video games are about gameplay and JRPGs barely have any.
BTW, the problem is not having turn based combat, but the genuine lack of strategy for most encounters. Combat issues asside, exploration is very simplistic and decision making is cosmetic. In Chrono Trigger for example, you're given a dialog option to not go after Lavos when you first learn about him in 2300 AD. In a good game that should at least be an ending or ideally an entire different path if you choose No .
