Kojima is a good producer and quality manager when on a tight leash, but left to his own devices, he starts going full retard.
He was being tard-wrangled hard at Konami; he worked as part of a team, and his obsession with movies added that extra flavor to the games. But now that he has full control over the production, all he does is make barren movie games with gameplay as an afterthought, vicariously living out his movie director inferiority complex. He has also gone full woke, crawling at holyjew celebs' feet for a shadow of a chance to direct a movie.

If Konami made a new MGS game with a new director, it would actually have a chance of being good. But a remake is gonna be shit regardless, especially considering that the japs are now aiming for western sensibilities in their games.

Death Stranding was good. It's just not everyone's cup of tea. People didn't understand it, or they did understand it, but just didn't like the core gameplay. I've seen dozens of people who bounced off of it at release go back to it years later and finally see the point.

What do you mean "stealth loading zones?" There are big set pieces which are slow to navigate on foot. But that's the challenge, and what motivates you to optimize. They're not hiding any loading like crevice sections in other games. You can set up ziplines to bypass them and there's no problem.

I think they are both right. Koijima's games are simply too big and too much of a risk for Konami. Game made money. Was modestly profitable. Sony's guidance called it a "below expectations".

Technically yeah, since everyone had a form of Metal Gear 1 and 2 available for a decade before MGS1 released (though Americanbros didn't get the real ones).
But also, the height of Metal Gear's popularity was 2007-2015.

The reason some really dumb people hate Kojima now is because DS was a lot of zoomie's first Kojima game but what they don't know is Death Stranding wasn't really the game he wanted to make, there was so much and I mean SO MUCH more to this game's development that all those people who don't do their research will never find out, so now they think Kojima lost his touch, he was always a hack bla bla but now that he had more time, his studio fully established, staff hired, his team is way more familiar now with the new engine they had to learn from the ground up, what Kojima has done with DS2 will blow everyone away and will shut these stupid as fuck haters up for good. Journos got to play the game for 4 full days up to 30 hours and they all and I mean ALL were extremely positive, even people who hated DS1 absolutely loved DS2 and can't wait to start all over again cause they weren't allowed to keep the save file. This alone should tell you how good this game really is. Also, the sheer confidence Kojima has in letting them play for 30 hours in a preview event has NEVER been done before in this industry. This game will be an absolute masterpiece and will go down in history as one of the best games ever made.

Driving a truck and growing your business are their own reward, you don't need 10 hours of the most insane yet utterly boring drivel injected into your brain to make that experience meaningful.

You're driving on mostly level roads, and not even getting to explore much in those games. With Death Stranding, you have to plan for and around all kinds of navigation challenges.

Death Stranding was good.

It was everything wrong with modern video games.
From the massive open world with nothing on it, the floppy loose controls, the gameplay that was barely interactive and had zero challenge or fail states, the nonsensical writing, the atrocious UI design, the rampant cronyism and product placement, the shitty licensed music with record label advertisements on the screen, the really bad face scanning that immediately made it look dated, the ubisoft structure "go to the point on the map and do the thing then do it again 4000 times" etc

If you die in a BT Zone, that entire section of the map gets scooped out and you have to find another way around. If you kill an enemy and let the body rot, that area turns into a BT Zone. If you let an enemy be taken by a BT you get a game over.

Death Stranding is more loved than Metal Gear Solid Master Collection
