Wow, this is really fucking bad.

The Waifufags and SEshills aren't going to like this one
hourly schizo thread.
OP couldn't even get through intro chapter.
I dropped it for Dragon’s Dogma 2, which I dropped for Wukong.
yeah, shit game in all fields
I made this thread because I actually can''t believe how shitty this burning village section is.
I liked rebirth overall, most of the extra content was terrible though. I did like the card game however. Chadley was super fucking annoying though. Also I didn't like the ending that much. Its like a solid 8 imo.
e33 shills coping now, better spam more shitter threads about square enix while your billionaire's indie game is getting rave reviews from all the sponsored cucks
This remake fucks up sephiroth so much it's insane.
I hated how they handled the last 2 hours of the game too...
Not exactly wise when the game is the middle part of a trilogy. Curious to see the sales numbers of the final part, shit's gonna flop hard.
Japan
user-voted
And nothing of value was lost.
i got annoyed at the movement speed in that too, but the game is good. one little section doesn't mean a game is bad.
Why we couldnt use those cool motorcycles outside the shitty minigame
It's a sequel, not a remake.
I mean, the original was pretty meh as well. At least now you properly see sephiroth killing people and not bonking them.
Final Fantasy
in 2025
we're playing Expedition 33
Ultimately it's the same story with added jizz ghosts, thus a remake.
Rebirth is disappointing but it isn't bad.
I gave up on it. The side quests were neat, but the main story is so bad that I was skipping everything after a point.
Too bad, you missed on an amazing game.
The mechanics are fun, but there's too much horrible shit in between, and that means it's not an amazing game.
twice as long
half as good
i never saw those horrible shit. It was amazing all the way through.
Exp33 is good but the sidecontent is underwhelming and the combat system becomes laughable halfway through. They didnt know how to balance their game.
Original
Cloud gives a recap of how Sephiroth went crazy, burned down a village and then disappeared
Need to cross swamp, but you need a chocobo
If the Zolom catches you then you just fucking die
You can come back much much later when you're strong enough to beat it and you are rewarded with a powerful enemy skill if you can survive having it used on you
Cross swamp, see another Zolom that Sephiroth skewered onto a tree off screen
Shitbirth
Cloud goes on and on about how Sephiroth totally wanted to ravage his 17 year old boipussy back in the day
Need to cross the swamp, Chocobo steps on the Zolom like it's a sleeping dog or something
It's just a slightly more difficult obligatory boss fight
Win in combat, lose in the cutscene
Sephiroth appears out of nowhere and throws it up into the air and impales it onto a tree on screen and immediately fucks off
They can't have fucked up that whole sequence that badly purely by accident surely
I liked Rebirth anyway but jesus christ
Execute 66 is that short?
yeah its not long. And the sidecontent is insanely repetitive, i was just killing stuff and finding samey dungeons that hold some pictos and some boss that died to one hit so it wasnt really fun.
Too bloated
Rebirth would have been a 9/10 game if they removed the Golden Saucer and the constant minigames all around the world
Almost every cutscene was unwatchable. As awesome as fiend intel was, you have Mai jabbering through the entire fight about whatever. She and Chadley are awful (which is weird, since Chadley was awesome in the first game). Costa del Sol is even more of an anime beach/pool episode than the original. Lots of Aerith. You're getting Aerith. You want to go on a date with Aerith? No? Well, you're going on a date with Aerith. Talking to a NPC? Aerith wants to get involved. Look how cute she isn't! It's just awful.
I had the opposite experience. I'm having much more fun on NG+ Hard now that I've got all the sidequest chores cleaned up. Why were they even there?
Only problem is that Hard expects you to be level capped at 70 from the get-go and the first play through wraps somewhere in the high 50s so you have to grind a bit in the beginning. At least EXP gain is greatly accelerated.
The Cosmo Canyon tower defense minigame I didn't give a fuck about anymore, I just set it to easiest difficulty immediately and blasted through.
Almost every cutscene was unwatchable.
Not such a thing, the characters are incredibly charming and the dialogue is well spread across the cast. Its not just them yapping and yapping like games like metaphor.
I tried telling you
Explain why in detail without using buzzwords.
it's not a real ff game
slightly more difficult
easiest boss fight in the game
All I did was use Barrett and take cover behind one tree that I circled. His melee and ranged attacks couldn't hit me. I just had to move a little faster when he submerged, but it was still pretty much impossible to lose.
I enjoyed most of Remake's story. There wasn't much worth watching in Rebirth.
never played FF 7
remaster come out and seems like a good opportunity to get into it
ACTUALLY enjoy the hybrid action with slowmo turn based elements, lots of potential
play for like 20 hours
most of the time you are just walking around talking to people
story takes ages to go anywhere
fights are rare and mostly filler
apparently the whole thing is not even an actual remake but a bloated retelling of the original story with some schizo added shit that expects you to have played the original
also divided in 3 different games that take 5 years to come out
this whole thing is an absolute disaster
how much do you pause and navigate in the battle menu in this game?
Depends on if you have a lot of actions you need to go in said menus for. A lot of fights are tank and spank, where you can use quick actions. It's also not a pause, but a slowmo. Stuff's still happening.
This but Yuffie. For a completely optional character in the original game she sure gets a lot of time in the spotlight in Rebirth.
I don't mind though, she is annoying in an endearing way.
It's mostly real-time and you're going to have your most commonly used ATB commands bound to shortcut keys. You're only really going to use the menu when you need to heal/rez someone or when you've staggered an enemy and you need to hit it with a broadside of everybody's most powerful attacks all at once.
i literally wish i could, but, by the time i figure out wether to press Y, X, or RB based on which Sephiroth cutscene i want to watch, the menu is useless.
chickenscratch
playstation glyphs
Gross.
No, anon, you see...
Because waifufaggotry, janky flashy combat (combo moves and essentially hopping around like hot potato is crucial to gud coombat), open world, changing the art style and story..
It's the goat
Mai was at least cute, unlike Chudley
The mystery of how Sephiroth fucked that thing up in the original just added to his intimidation. The entire original game builds this fucker up. Kills your girl, unleashes the weapons, and summons meteor to destroy the planet. You never fight him until the end and while he wasn't super difficult but the theme and mythos built around him is why Sephiroth was so huge back then up to now. Remake/Rebirth just completely fuck that up by shoving him in anywhere and everywhere they can. Even having you fight him in the first part complete with his theme and you win, same with Rebirth. And it'll happen again in the next game with zero sense of tension or wonder because they already busted their load way too early. Imagine if Remake just ended normally leaving you with the feeling of anticipation on how Sephiroth's fight will be. You complete Rebirth and the anger at what he did makes it even more palpable as fans old and new cannot wait to see how the final showdown goes, and then the final part releases and it's a damn near world wide phenomenom as people go through it to get revenge for Aeris and save the planet when not only One-Winged Angel but Bizarro Sephiroth's re-done themes are revealed. But no, for some reason they acted retarded.
Mai is just Chadley with long hair doing a falsetto. Same bussy.
*Jenova fucked that thing up
*her intimidation
Sephiroth was dead, stuck in the North Cave.
He's using her cells to project himself. It's her actions willed by his mind
I thought it was really overrated but still a good game
I dropped Rebirth at the Golden Saucer since we just had a mini game chapter and havent picked it up since.
if not for astro bot it would've been goty, fuck off
the thing about the cosmo canyon tower defense was that it was so much better in Remake, and then they shittified it for some reason in Rebirth
can't do it
Thought so.
Yeah seriously.
The in-game Cetra ghosts in the temple in Rebirth straight up tell you that Jenova is a deceiving shapeshifter that turns friends against each other and sowed the seeds of the Cetra's destruction by inciting humanity to hate them.
Kitase says lol no actually Jenova is just a mindless alien and Sephiroth completely took her over because his willpower is just that strong and he's just that freaking epic ftw. Not even that Jenova and Sephiroth combined to form some new hitherto unknown being of pure evil, no it's all Sephy.
It feels like some sort of long-form act of trolling sometimes.
Genuinely feel like a lot of people calling the game "bad" are really focused on the story and how it's presented. Which I agree could be better.
The extra challenges in stuff in the game make up for it and I really enjoy the fights on dynamic
Mai was nowhere near as annoying to me, they should've had an option to pick her instead of Chudley to travel around with.
Not a very good game. While Remake was familiar-yet-fresh and most importantly fun, Rebirth lacks all of that. It’s not only unfun, it actively feels like a chore.
The story is a mess. The original’s dark, cynical tone is replaced with forced goofiness in every scene, draining all urgency and depth. The game is bloated with unnecessary characters—some from obscure spin-offs, others original—alienating fans who only played the original. And then there’s Chadley and his female clone... why?
Gameplay-wise, it’s “open world” in the most superficial way. The areas are outdoor mazes with tedious navigation. Side activities are mind-numbingly repetitive:
Go here, do a rhythm minigame.
Go there, kill some enemies.
Go somewhere else, dig or scan something.
Repeat 3–5 times per zone.
And the minigames. I thought people were exaggerating—turns out they weren’t. You’re forced into them constantly. It’s like Mario Party hijacked Final Fantasy. Just when you think you’re done, there’s another arena battle. It never ends.
In conclusion: Rebirth is a padded, unfocused, annoying mess that dishonors the original. Even diehard FFVII fans will struggle to enjoy it. And the “reward” for finishing every side quest? Another minigame marathon at Gold Saucer plus a brutal arena fight. A final insult from the devs.
Golden Saucer was a necessary evil in my opinion because the whole point is that it's a huge loud distraction. The game, like the attraction, in both the original and Rebirth are telling you to turn your brain off and have fun until shit hits the fan.
The second time you go is to purposely lure you into a false sense of security for the inevitable betrayal.
You can beat the game in the upper 40s. It's where my clear save ended. Mythril Golem was the brick wall I hit while doing my Hard Mode run so I'm just clearing all the shit I need for Johnny's resort that doesn't come from completing Hard Mode.
It's called remake because Sephiroth is trying to remake the events of the original game.
it isn't are you retarded? it's a chrisis core rip off action game. real final fantasy games are turn based rpgs
turn your brain off and have fun
Impossible to do that in Golden Saucer because constant minigame spam makes me hate the game
Its the best game SE has released in over a decade
Final Transatry was never good.
you sound like the kind of retard that would count 11 & 14 as real final fantasy games too
Remake was also padded trash and the combat was dogshit, there are sections in Remake that drag on for way too long to the point of tedium. Hojo's lab section is absolute garbage same with the return to sector 7 and the climb to shinra tower and before that the stupid ass henchmen side track. Rebirth at least improved on combat but still has the problem of too much shit thrown in to pad so SE can tell investors the game is a gorillion hours long.
having a lower steam score than xv + xvi should have been your first clue.
Well put. The cutscenes alone are agonizing to get through.
there’s another arena battle.
at least arena battles let you actually... you know... play the game
Final Trantasy you fucking shit eating jeet
My only problem with the game is that all the best fights are on Hard mode in the Simulator and most people will never get to that point. Too time consuming. Even big fans like Maximillian have never fought Rulers of the Outworlds and has no idea on what he's missing out, now imagine the average person... Most people never experienced this game at its best and probably never will.
Those challenging fights would have been better if they were spread out in the open world and given their own mini-dungeon like they did with Gilgamesh. Otherwise I don't see the point to such huge map if it's just gonna be empty, and even worse for Part 3 where the map is gonna be even bigger. I hope they don't fuck up the Weapons in Part 3 and that Hard mode is just as challenging despite all the bitching and complaining the game was too hard. They really outdo themselves making Rebirth be so challenging but also accompanied by such excellent combat. If anything Rebirth is underrated as fuck.
I get thinking the side shit was repetitive. It's only there to get resources for harder difficulties.
But I genuinely don't understand people who say that the new games are bad because they're too goofy and not as dark as the original.
The original was goofy as hell. Even the darkest part, the first disk, had Cloud running around trying to dress up as a woman and riding giant yellow chickens everywhere.
No I'm saying that's the point. The point is that it's forcing you do ignore the story and play stupid games. But again, the original was like that too.
Time jannies. Prease understandu.
Gracious customer-san complain not enough mini-games in FFXVI. We put many mini-game in Rebirth. We are gomena-sorry.
I hate the new endgame simulation battles. There are too many in a row and they take too long, fail once and you are back to the start of like 10 battles in a row. I did all the simulation battles in Remake but quit in Rebirth after just doing a few cause I couldn't be bothered.
the time jannies are a non issue in Rebirth. they only appear twice in the whole game and basically do nothing. Nowhere near as intrusive as they were in Remake being silly pushing people around. They were better implemented and shaping up to be a good addition to the series.
i agree, i sold it before i went across the ocean, literal dogshit
Or ignore all the "very serious cutscene" using the field models.
The battle system is among one of my favorite RPG battle systems. Like KH3, the Data fights are quite literally the best part of the game. That Odin fight was extremely simple but extremely rewarding to beat on Dynamic.
The original’s dark, cynical tone is replaced with forced goofiness in every scene
please replay the original game, holy shit
you make it sound like ff7 was dark souls or some shit
But I genuinely don't understand people who say that the new games are bad because they're too goofy and not as dark as the original.
The original was a dark game with goofy moments. Remake is a goofy game with very goofy moments.
The original’s dark, cynical tone
I will never forgive them for changing the mouth to mouth scene between Cloud and Priscilla.
This guy has it. I'm too sleepy and tired to add something I have thought from the end of February, when I finished it. Maybe in the next threads I'm going to explain why it went bad, at least for me.
You don´t fucking say... but to be fair Remake had already made that clear. Why would you even play Rebirth after playing Remake? You thought what? That it couldn´t possibly get worse? or did you perhaps believed it would somehow improve?
You are confusing light hearted with goofy.
Goofyness is when red xiii tries to walk on two feet.
The game is mostly lighthearted. They are travelling across the world in search of sephiroth. Its a standard adventure that makes you travel to all places and fall in love with the world you are protecting. Why do you think hamaguchi said multiple times that the game theme is "bonds"? thats right, because it is about that. Its about the adventure, the discovery, and it slowly ties up with the main story.
When the game wants to be goofy, it is goofy. When it wants to be lighthearted, it is, its like a breathe of fresh air. When the game wants to be serious, it is serious. It explores all the emtions in one single game.
I dont even know what you faggots want anymore. You are retards are morons.
FF7 was seen as a comedy with dark elements. Also the Cross dressing was better in the original since you had a fail state of not getting picked if you fucked up the wall market challenges rather than the gimme Remake gives you.
Horse goddamn shit, fucking half of Cosmo Canyon is goofy old man floating on a fucking crystal ball explaining the cycle of death and rebirth for the Lifestream.
What about Cloud beating up Aerith at the Temple of the Ancients?
not OP but I thought they would at least save aerith but we got the same shit
Is it possible for someone to mod it in?
four great questions i should have considered before i bought it
Yeah they're pretty well only in the lifestream and lifestream adjacent areas
Moving the Temple up North annoyed me more than it reasonably shoul have.
Barry thread?
I dont even know what you faggots want anymore.
A game that sticks with the original tone, not an awkward cringe fest that is 50% visual novel.
I can't help but love him.
He's just a goofy 30 year old who wants to watch his furry OC spread whimsy and fun while having members of his own job hold a gun to his head and order him to watch the world slowly drain into nothingness. Mirroring the same job slowly draining his own self worth.
Its an odd choice but regardless it really doesn't matter. There is no lore-reason why it was down there, nor does it impact Rebirth if its up north.
Rebirth is a great game and it isn't ashamed of the fact it's a vidya. Guarantee kids growing up playing it are going to put the remakes in their top 10 lists in the years to come.
buy RPG
it's actually 50% cutscenes, 45% minigames, and 5% RPG
That's still 50% game.
Me too. But I went back and cleared out a bunch of the easier VR missions to grind up to Lv 70, then I made heavy use of Barret's shielding L1 command. It makes you invulnerable to projectiles for as long as you want and it's very handy for dealing with the missile spam. The melee attacks are very telegraphed and you can parry them fairly easily.
I can't fucking stand this cunt.
Ditto.
No. That's Yuffie.
I love her so much bros...so much better than in OG and her theme is so good.
it absolute is, like what the fuck were SE thinking
but with a ditto I can have twoffie
Why shouldnt i just shoot the exposed shoulder, or the breast area, or her face?
why did they make her so sexual in the remake?
Rebirth hate thread
Anons actually discussing game
So Priscilla dies or does someone else do it? I'm playing through remake rn.
Why would you even play Rebirth after playing Remake?
Costa Del Sol and bikinis. Simple as.
in both the original and Rebirth are telling you to turn your brain off and have fun until shit hits the fan
That’s not what’s happening in the original though, the overtly fake cheeriness of the gold saucer is supposed to be a contrast to the party being at their lowest point since joining together, Barrett just revealed what happened in Kalm before you get there and is stand offish about it, there is an awkward tension and Aerith tries to break it by asking if the party wants to explore the different squares together and he basically tells everyone to fuck off if they’re planning on having fun and leaves your party as soon as you enter the saucer, you don’t see him again until it’s implied he murdered a bunch of innocent people and your entire party is thrown into the desert below the saucer to die for being associated with him
in the remake Barrett tells you about Kalm but all tension is broken when he instantly recovers from reliving his past because Yuffie tells him to, by the time you land in the gold saucer you are forced to sit through a cringe musical number that looks like it belongs in Glee while a naked hairy muscle man flexes his 4K rendered biceps and giant hairy man nipples front and centre for the camera, instead of being thrown into the desert to die you are brought into some bizarre bargain where the owner already believes Barrett didn’t do it because he has gay lust for Cloud but challenges him to prove it within 24 hours, you are then escorted to the desert below the gold saucer in a slow walking and talking section by taking a fancy and expensive looking elevator down to it, the reasoning behind having an elevator with no other purpose other than leading you to Rapeville below the saucer is never explained
the remakes are fun when experienced as a celebration of the original game but they fucked the characters with the awful writing
uh oh jimbo meltie
Instead of her drowning it's Yuffie that drowns and needs CPR. But she ends up recovering without even needing CPR so no lip action whatsoever.
Two times the Yuffie?
At least now you properly see sephiroth killing people and not bonking them.
the new one is so bad it made me lol
Also an added effect of this is there 100% won't be dialogue from Priscilla of her saying she wants to marry Cloud like she has in the original when you talk to her later on in the game.
I can never get the timing of the Synergy guard skills, I know it's how you make Aerith far more durable and faster than using her own block.
Hell yeah
Yuffie can make high quality clones, not sure why they had to make her doppleganger look like a wooden puppet.
If I hated the tedious shimmying sections and general tedium of the FF7 remake, would this bother me for Rebirth? I was interested in Rebirth since it looks like it's a bit more open and more sovl but I really hate tedium and walking sections
Yeah, I feel the same. I honestly think a lot of this bloat was added just to justify having a third part. I was completely burned out on minigames and every region was the same formula: more minigames, more ubislop points of interest. There’s no real engagement with the world or any meaningful discoveries it’s all just the same recycled activities over and over. Totally killed my motivation to keep going.
The open world mechanics will annoy you so much.
Japan has changed it's legal age of marriage since the original release of FF7
Hosting the Olympics is bringing the downfall of Japan. How will they ever recover?
I don't like the press or hold Y/^ to interact. Just make it press. I don't need extra interactivity to open a fucking door.
I saw a gif of the mining mini game and held off on buying it for 2 years now. I guess I just won't... unless there's PC mods that can remove the tedium.
no cultural impact
no sales
Dead, buried and forgotten.
Chadley and MAI single handedly ruins the entire game for me.
They never shuts the fuck up. Combat is already fucking particle spam zoomer sensory overload shit, and now MAI is constantly saying some version of "You can do it, Cloud!” in fifty different ways, right after rattling off a useless Pokédex description of the enemy.
...And don’t even get me started on Chadley’s English voice actor. How did someone this flat and awkward ends up with more lines than anyone else during open world content? Either he's putting out for the devs or he's a make a wish kid.
I think there are cheat engine tables that let you auto-win minigames.
I find pretty weird the attitude of you people when it comes to this game. Its like you dont want to play it. You just want to quickly finish it just so you can discuss it or anything.
Am i the only one who just fucks around and do whatever i want to do? and when the minigames come, to tackle them as any other battle? its gameplay, a short minigame that hurts literally nobody.
i remember the only one that i kinda wanted to skip was the robot thingies in cosmo canyon, and that was because it was way too complex for that part of the game. But the rest are really easy, intuitive ones so i dont get this artificial hatred. Feels like forced anger.
How will they ever recover?
It's over. Everyone wants to go there now.
Fuccbois going there for pussy because jap women aren't like western roasties
Niggers going there for Fuccboi reasons and because they know they can do stupid nigger shit unchecked (for now)
Fags going there because Muh Trump
Fags (Liberals/Californinans) going there because Muh Trump and also cheaper cost of living/housing
Large SEA population going there for jobs
Jews looking to subvert it
The real move is Mongolia.
Common case of a writer being far dumber than the rare quality product he ends up making by sheer accident.
You just want to quickly finish it just so you can discuss it or anything.
Pretty much why games have so many sales in the first week and designed to be finished in a weekend. We need something to talk about on our friendship simulators(not just Anon Babble).
also cheaper cost of living/housing
Damn California is that bad?
It makes me laugh. All they had to do was make a 1:1 remake of the original game and it would have been one of the most successful FF games in a while.
But they couldn't help themselves.
They had ambition, sadly not something "fans" want.
Housing is fucked to hell in that shithole state
It's why all the streamerfags are fleeing to Texas.
It has more impact than is immediately obvious.
Besides the hand wavey summon things they added, they've focussed all of the Cetra shit on the Northern Continent.
Think about where we get the Key to the Ancients thing later on? Why the fuck is that going to be there? It was plausible to have been damn near anywhere before and now it's implausible to be anywhere other than the Northern Continent. Why would something relatively important be half the world away, miles from the city itself, when one of their most important items, the Black Materia, was kept so close to 'home'?
They supposedly only concentrated themselves near the Crater after Jenova.
We've removed Bone Village, a dig site town that was excavating more recent Cetra remains on the Northern Continent. The Lunar Harp etc.
They're relatively important world building details that have been washed away for convenience and to more easily constrict the map with a shallow rock barrier.
It is literally explained on the elevator ride lol, the staff used to live down there until monsters moved in and now the only humans who live down there are vagrants.
Granted it doesn't explain why the elevator is still operational but I could imagine it being used as a goods entrance under heavy guard.
The actual section where you encounter Dyne sucks shit narratively but not everything is strictly worse than the original.
Big name creators always go to shit and fall into sophomoric 2deep4u meta-commentary when they become successful enough to not have to answer to an editor or project manager. Many such cases.
Meant to respond to
Whats the alternative?
keeping a temple next to junon and have the people like "hurr durr the temple is so secret!" when it was literally next to them?
The temple being next to the city of the ancients makes more sense considering they are supposed to be 1. building it 2. guarding it
I honestly think a lot of this bloat was added just to justify having a third part
That's exactly what it is. Even fanboys have to defend the game by saying you have to skip all the bloat for it to be good. It's just padding for the sake of saying it has a lot of content. Remake turnimg a 3 hour segment into a whole game was the biggest red flag as to what rebirth would be.
I honestly think a lot of this bloat was added just to justify having a third part.
Its not. Its just content for a big world. As simple as that.
They had ambition,
To add Ubisoft towers and checklists?
Some bloat would be fine if it means better world building, fanservice, or references to other games.
Some previous FF games had menu bloat to pad the gameplay time.
Ah, I see. You probably didn't play it.
The temple itself IS the Black Materia.
Cait Sith dies because they stay behind to repeatedly solve a puzzle that shrinks it back down.
It's not some hurr trap to hold up to keep it from collapsing while they leave in a panic like some Indiana Jones crap. It's a much more somber moment.
The Gi bullshit is an addition and one that doesn't change anything either way. It was just so they could introduce the concept of the materia earlier.
Placing the materia on some small random island made more sense originally. Isolated, relatively easy to guard, unlikely to be wandered across, will leave a giant hole once removed.
I feel the same way. Main story stuff was okay but the side-content is some of the worst content I've ever experienced in a video game. That side-mission that expected you to fight two of those firaball guys as Aerith was so badly designed it almost gave me aneurism
The core gameplay and story are great. Combat feels good, and it's nice revisiting familiar story beats in full HD glory with voice acting and beautiful camerawork. But the game is WAY too padded with filler content. The Ubisoft-style open world sidequests were fun at first, but quickly become repetitive. Optional? Yeah, but they make up so much of the game that skipping them is genuinely skipping significant amounts of the content. The same goes for the god awful minigames they keep shoving at you.
At almost every turn, Rebirth has you completing in yet another minigame. Catching a chocobo? Stealth minigame. Using the dolphin to get up to the Junon tower? That's now a racing minigame. The Junon parade? You now have to run around town, recruit soldiers, pick a formation, then do three rhythm minigames. Once you're on the ship to Costa Del Sol? A card game tournament. Once at Costa Del Sol? More minigames to "earn" a swimsuit so you can go to the beach. Golden Saucer? Hours of minigames.
I'm fine with minigames on principle (the OG had quite a few), but they're far too prevalent here. Every time a new minigame tutorial pops up, I groan because it's yet another obstacle between me and the part of the game I actually enjoy -- exploration, combat, and the main story. I'm 30 hours in and I'd wager that two thirds of that has been nebulous repetitive open world exploration and minigames, and much of the storytelling has been padded out by what is essentially anime filler story. I'm exhausted and over it. All I wanted was a straightforward retelling of the FF7 story I loved growing up, but they couldn't do that. They had to be weird about it.
You now have to run around town, recruit soldiers, pick a formation, then do three rhythm minigames
this was miserable
crossdressing in the original was because the Honeybee girls are copies of Cloud´s model with other hair and clothes.
In remake it's blatantly obvious.
I HATE the QTE minigame shit, there and the Saucer Event Square thing. You can't even just enjoy the parade they made or the play because of the QTE.
I liked having the agency to fail the selection. It makes replaying the game a lot more fun versus just being given the win.
The Original Junon march was brutal compared to Rebirth, You did not get to enjoy that march either.
Text dialogues in OG are now awful conversations of American people. Text dialogues in OG are simple eight lines of text, in Remake/Rebirth now are 5 minutes of talking because they speak really slow
The Original Junon march was brutal compared to Rebirth, You did not get to enjoy that march either.
It was a very basic march though. Compare that to the effort put into the new one and they're worlds apart.
I liked the rhythm game aspect of it but then I'm a rhythm game nerd. It's basically 3D Project Diva and anyway it's over pretty quickly one way or the other. You did do your commander proud though, right anon?
They really could have done without half of the minigames thoughbeit. The tower defense games were awful, who on earth thought that was fun?
The original scene of Nibelheim burning was less than 3 minutes long
If you just wanted to go through it yeah you could not hit anything and lose out on items and be done. Junon in both versions of the game was probably my favorite part of FFVII though and felt the least marred by bloat and padding.
You did do your commander proud though, right anon?
Of course. I picked the most difficult sequences and perfected them. It just annoyed me that it got in the way of actually watching them because they're pretty good parades. I didn't hate the game, I just hated it being in the way of the spectacle.
The others are a chore though. Enjoyed the piano though, that shit was great. Want more of that.
commander
god I love tall blonde military women
That's the spirit
You probably didn't play it.
its always these kind of retards. Always pretending that the original is any perfect.
None of what you wrote have any sort of significance. So what if the temple itself was the black materia? whats the narrative purpose that makes it SO unchangeable? lets say that in the original, it wasnt like that, and it was just a temple that holds the black materia inside, were you gonna complain? It has no meaning.
The rebirth version did something more simple, and yet more fitting. Its a big temple, designed to contain the black materia, not made by the cetra but the Gi. Its completely hidden unless you get the keystone, tons of trap, monsters protecting it (including the demon gate, which actually makes sense now to actually block you from the black materia. It even has lifestream anger trying to push you out, and if it wasnt for Aerith you wouldnt even get to the black materia, something the original didnt even bother. The temple itself is no more some "indiana jones crap", which ironically fits the original far more, with the rolling stones, the maze minigame and the music being uplifting. Meanwhile the rebirth version goes for a more somber atmosphere, a mystical one, fitting for the cetra culture, that actually includes a big warning exposition for you and the party. Also, it explores Cloud bloodlust and descent to madness due to sephiroth, which makes it feel like cloud wants the black materia for himself rather than "to protect it". Far better written.
And icing on the cake: in the original version, yes, the temple shrinks until it becomes the black materia, available for pick up for anyone. Not a very smart way to protect it. Meanwhile, the rebirth version is simple, even if you do manage to go past the demon wall, the temple crumbles upon itself, making it probably impossible to get it under all the ruble. The party would have died if it wasnt for Cait sith. A big difference with the original.
The new one has sephiroth slashing and piercing people. Its stronger.
The new one has sephiroth slashing and piercing people.
yeah while they all stand around doing nothing while you waggle the triggers to crawl faster.
thats the only thing thats bad. There needs to be a mod that makes the stuff faster without needing the l2 and r2 inputs. To make it more natural.
they made yuffie hot as fuck. i love this game. those two are probably correlated
tension, atmosphere? who cares?! it looks better has cool animations
okay no, you gotta ignore that too while I nitpick about a 30 yr old game's animations being kinda meh
alright
>tension, atmosphere? who cares?! it looks better has cool animations
what tension, what atmosphere
in the original everything happens way too fast
in rebirth sephiroth just walking around calmly shanking people is better, the music doing
youtu.be
specially from timestamp, thats some diablo 2 OST shit, really good
Okay, you want to talk fucking with lore.
The only materia the Cetra ever used was naturally occurring. Holy, Meteor, the lot. The lifestream and the will of the planet is indifferent. It has no qualms wiping everybody away to save itself, hence the Weapons.
The only materia manufacturing happened recently through extreme artificial concentration in Mako reactors. Before that, didn't happen.
They've bullshitted out the Gi as having created it by altering a piece of materia themselves.
Nobody could get into the Temple without the Keystone anyway.
The entire point of the temple is to stop people acquiring it, that's not changed.
You've applied the Indiana Jones concept wholesale, instead of the collapsing structure escape trope I used it for. I don't have any issue with the deterrents within. THEY DON'T WANT ANYBODY TO GET IT. Oh you want to leave now? Fuck off, get eaten by a wall so you can't tell people.
You missed the point of Cait Sith's sacrifice in the original. It's his penance for the betrayal with the Keystone and everybody coming to accept that and saying their goodbyes. They just leave calmly but heartbroken.
In the old version you wouldn't have been able to leave with it, period. And somebody else would've collected it afterwards, or more likely, big rumble Cetra respond and reset the whole thing if they were still around.
Then you get Schizo Cloud handing the Black Materia over. His schizo bloodlust is a new addition and not even a good one.
Perfect, no, just coherent with the wider world, setting and story. Half of the shit they did is justifying other bullshit changes and additions from their padding with little to no thought about the wider implications of them.
Kino
All i wrote was in the game.
80% of what you wrote is just headcanon interpreation trying to justify stuff.
The temple of the ancients was far better done in rebirth. Im glad they did it, it was one of the weakest parts of the original game. Its just a big dungeon with no story relevancy until you get the black materia. It doesnt explore character, it doesnt explore the lore of the game, and it even has sephiroth spoonfeed you all his plan to you, something rebirth removed, thank god.
shows up
Im waiting cloud..
this happens for 70 hours until aerith gets stabbed in the end with a kingdom hearts twist ending that makes no sense
Eh, i prefer him in the remake. Its a different presentation and it works better for the trilogy.
Yeah because replacing Sephiroth ghosts Cloud sees with random no name Cetra giving an expanded exposition dump is so different.
And he still shows up for the Black Materia anyway.
Everything has a who, what, why where, when and how. It is not all explicitly stated and it is not all self contained within the Temple sequence itself.
It's story-telling 101 shit.
Talk about tone deaf.
lets spend the next years remaking a game that was 30 hours long originally into a trilogy that is 250 hours long
why
10 years*
Of all the 3D titles, VII deserved it most. Not just for being a great game, but because you can tell the Squaresoft artists were flying by the seat of their pants not just learning 3D, but then also having to do FMV sequences, too. To the point where the models shift back and forth between sequences. Some have their more detailed models while others are the Fisher Price toyetic models that are extremely simple. The only thing that really holds up are the environments because they were cleverly pre-rendered images with some animation.
Going from that to a full-on HD treatment is fucking incredible. This game's nearly 30 years old now. I was in high school to remember how pissed people were that the PS3 footage was a mere tech demo. But it worked out because now we got this.
The only issue is now that FF7 has been made as three parts, what's the implication for mainline titles? Has a Pandora's Box been opened? Will they now feel "too short" or "too small" in comparison? How much development time could those take? Is this even sustainable, especially since, against all reason, the remake has under performed in spite of the combat being a blast?
It's made him weaker over all. Sephiroth got the Kylo Ren treatment of getting spanked twice already. Once by a barely held together early party in Remake and again in Rebirth. He's a joke.
Hes not a joke. He kills aerith, makes cloud his bitch, and summons meteor. Its a back and fort.
He did that in the original game without getting his ass handed to him twice before that.
Hes not a joke. He kills aerith, makes cloud his bitch, and summons meteor. Its a back and fort.
He does that anyway. Now he just gets his ass kicked a couple times on the way. Joke.
in the original theres no resistance or build up to begin with. Cloud doesnt move to save aerith, cloud quickly loses his shit instead of slowly throught the game and the party needs to act stupid for Sephiroth to be able to summon meteor. Lets see how rebirth handles that, but im sure it wont be another case of "look how fucked up cloud looks, lets give him the black materia anyway!"
I feel like it's even worse in Rebirth cause he says nothing and just flies away
I spend so much time (well, not really that much time actually) shitting up these threads because the entire Remake trilogy is kind of like that shot of Aerith standing in front of the Highwind. An image of what could have been.
The remakes aren't terrible or anything but they're just good enough to make the really stinky parts stand out and really make you wish that those really stupid fumbles and poor executions weren't there.
in the original theres no resistance or build up to begin with
There's plenty of build up. The entire disc 1 is chasing Sephiroth and not sure wtf he is or what he is capable of and why he is not dead.
It's never of question of why he's alive, unlike the Remake timeline, Cloud doesn't think he killed him in the OG series, it's why the flashback ends with him saying he doesn't remember how their confrontation ended but assured that he couldn't have killed him that easily.
Shinra said publically that Sephiroth died, Cloud doesn't believe he could have killed him, but doesn't understand why he's stated to be dead.
And it's explicitly called out by the party you can't trust the public Shinra statement anyway, I think it was Tifa in OG that calls that into question while Barret talks about not taking the news 100% seriously in the Remake timeline.
No matter if the party believes Shinra's public message, there's still a mystery of him being either dead or being hidden from the public by Shinra for unknown reasons.
All the "graphics" comparison videos don't even bother to include this slop. I deleted my pirated copy out of disgust after clouds village.
It's like a lot of remakes in general. It's almost impossible for them to be bad games overall, it's usually just the disappointment by comparison or odd choices in certain areas.
It's the competition between the defence force and the "everything's shit" lot that shit it up by crowding everything else out.
expecting any modern Queer-Penis ARPG besides NieR to be good
LOL
Filtered, I beat the first part and got the platinum!
Cait sith is not Reeve
I didn’t like Remake but I watched the last two hours of Rebirth on youtube and I never knew Nomura could make something stupider than the time ghost shit in remake
Good don't play it
You don't deserve good game
