If you're below the effort threshold, then they'll treat it either as a joke/shitpost or look down on you to the point of giving insincere positivity. Keep at it fellas. I recommend learnin to doodle on your phone with the iPhone notes app. The marker tool always goes underneath the pencil/pen tools so you can use object eraser to get rid a the under drawin after makin your cleaning doodle. I sate my appetite for anime by trying to draw cosplayers. That way I'm practicing realism and drawing what interests me at the same time.

Personally I think it's a bit flat. Few cloth creases, values are very flat, the hair is a solid shape and doesn't really looks like hair. I know it's a standing pose but it could be much more expressive and detailed. I also think you forgot to draw her hand holding the stick

It's probably uncommon for one sibling to be into art and the other not be.
The lack of detail might be partly due to the small size of the drawing. It was drawn on 8.5x11" with rollerball. I didn't do any real gesture or construction so that's probably why it's flat and stiff and I don't know how to paint at all.

I keep putting off anatomy and gesture because it's out of my comfort zone. Drawing on 11x17" might be worth trying. Thank you for your review.

The key to drawing is to be extremely observant of the things you want to draw.
Want to draw an apple?
Take an apple and look at it very closely.
Soak in the shape the details and it's texture.
Remember these mental notes while using that reference.
You'll eventually get the looks of an apple ingrained into your mind over time from drawing many apples.

You're absolutely right. Fun with a pencil is the worst teaching book, there are many better books that teach you the fundamentals. Even draw a box is a lot instructive

Loomis is a book made for people who already know how to draw, dude already expects you can bring a drawing out of a basic shape when one is struggling to do a proper line.

A source that I swear by to get people started that's a lot a fun is that Famous Artists Cartoon Course. It's in the public domain so it's fuckin FREE. And the best part is that it don't mold ya to draw one style, there's examples from at least a dozen prominent cartoonists from the period it was published so ya realize just how much creative expression there is even when followin the fundamentals.

get a bunch of paper and ballpoint pens, you have basic aesthetic sense and colour use, now dedicate yourself to actually learning. suggesting paper and ballpoint pens rather than pencils or a tablet because beginners often become too anxiously perfectionist, erasing and redoing details over and over, and using a pen will force you to just make mistakes and move on instead of trying to polish things

NTA but that's actually my problem right now, my brain just keeps begging me to skip the sketching phase and do the line-art phase from the start, because since the initial sketches are supposed to look rough and kinda crappy my brain keeps rejecting it. And obviously when I'm finished, the line art has a lot of these "small" problems all over, like it just looks wrong in some places. Been trying to slowly remedy this however but it's still rough.

Again, my suggestion is get paper, just stock like, printer paper, the sort where you spend like 30 bucks and get a massive amount, and get ballpoint pens. Make it so the means you're using to draw feel inherently disposable, and that might force you to stop feeling so precious about every little detail. No guarantees it works for you, but it did for me and a few other artists I know.
