I'm convinced that anyone that disliked Doom Eternal just got filtered super hard and has no taste. This isn't the way Doom should move forward.
My main gripe so far is the addition of a sprint bind.
MUH YOU FEEL LIKE A TANK NOW.
I immediately turned on auto sprint, and now all sprint serves to do is make regular movement feel clunky. Why is backing up so slow?
Also,
-Why am I checking the fucking map so much - this is Doom, I don't want to check the map every 45 seconds.
-The plasma SMG is really underwhelming, but I haven't unlocked any upgrades for it, so maybe it gets better?
-Same with the metal ball launcher, whatever it's called. Like, its purpose is to remove armor, but what does this weapon do that "shoot the enemy and throw shield" doesn't?
-Soundtrack is good. Doom Eternal's shits on it though.
-Every encounter is literally just a field with some cover, where Doom Eternal's arenas felt distinct.
-Enemies are much more difficult to see, and deaths feel like you got scammed sometimes.
-It feels like you're forced to explore the levels and use the fucking map if you actually want to upgrade gear. Stupid. Organically exploring will get you ~30-40% clear rate whereas opening the map to go to the stupid fucking ?'s actually gets you enough materials to purchase the upgrades. whyyyyyy.
-The mech and dragon levels were cool, but I feel like these are going to make me groan if I ever decide to revisit the game. I don't have the desire to replay them. Mech level is at least really short.
-Cutscenes are stupid and I do not care about the 'good guy' characters at all. I do like the obese makyr guy though. Main villain designs are also peak.
That being said, it's not terrible - there's definitely some good here.
All the shield mechanics are great, the game is polished, and the combat feels good.
