I'm not going to comment on the upcoming games until release, except that the direction isn't at all what I'm interested in based on footage so far. I've really enjoyed the Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1, 2 (mostly), 3, Elden Ring saga. There's just something about the grim dark fantasy that does it for me. Im also one of the few people on Anon Babble who loves invading apparently.

I think it's because people who enjoy the setting and gameplay get immersed in the experience. The flaws and shortcomings in the series are definitely there but it's all relatively minor if you're into the design and aesthetic strengths. Demon's Souls and Darksouls especially was a big deal for me on release and there's wasnt really anything else like it that I'd played. The later entries being roughly more of the same with refinement was exactly what I wanted.
On the flip side people who aren't interested in the setting, ambiguous and indirect storytelling, and don't enjoy the somewhat punishing/autistic build focus have a habit of hyper fixating on the flaws. The burning and excessive hatred I think comes about because these people are also often mercilessly raped by the game and never progress particularly far. They've then got a lot of people praising the series, dismissing their complaints, and telling them to get good so they retaliate by exaggerating and shitposting as hard as possible.

The two are so different you'd have to be a complete retard to think there's anything meaningful to compare. Bethesda makes Tolkienesque, quest marker, dialogue driven RPGs. Fromsoft makes dark fantasy ARPGs.
If you play a Souls game expecting Skyrim level mechanics, handholding and gameplay you're going to have a bad time.
