What do you call this kind of UI? I call it the if it works, don’t fix it UI.
What do you call this kind of UI? I call it the if it works, don’t fix it UI
anti-soul UI
I call it the souless corporate product UI
I just don't like it. Simple as.
the "I'm not the target audience " ui
r1 r2 tabs goyslop
this is what a real menu looks like
It's called standard UI framework with default settings and zero customisation efforts.
Its the "guarantee to get me to ignore your game" design.
who is? the "people" who listen to the top 10 on spotify? why do we have to cater to them?
Modern gaming is embarassing, if you played a lot of videogames back in the 90s (excluding westernslop) i don't see how you would find generic garbage like that tolerable, i can even imagine the generic ambient/orchestral soundtracks in those shite games just by looking at how the UI and graphic style looks.
the zoomer UX
diamond buttons/prompts
the plainest soulless fonts to ever exist
only one or two stats are the deciding factor between equips, builds barely exist, only stats
character in the middle with the fluoride stare
i want to see the equipped gear but i also want to see what it looks like on my character
somehow that's a bad thing
sage>Team has been working on autopilot for years and doesn't have a comprehensive overview of the final features in the game, nor do they expect to ever receive one until 2 weeks after the final deadline
Consequently the UI is something that can be thrown together based on a powerpoint during the routine waterfall sprint out of endlessly produced diamond icons and a character render.
Shit management that is too far up everyone else's asshole to make prompt decisions and the developers can't even work towards a consistent goal without their numbers fluctuating based on whatever kayfabe hiring and firing is being done to make the company look "forward thinking".
Zoomer UX
Project is still "lead" by Gen X
They can't keep getting away with it.
and why exactly does that have to look bland and safe as fuck?
The Corposloppa
games journalists of course! I hope their business model goes well for them!
because it's meant to be easily readable.
games shouldnt be designed like an airport or a hospital. not having everything 100% clear is part of the fun.
but not in menus. they should be designed to spend as little time with them as possible by making navigation as easy and quick as possible. the game is what you do when you close the menu, not when it's up.
Corporate console goyslop UI
because it's meant to be easily readable.
It makes terrible use of space. You could easily fit at least twice as much information into any of these.
I call it soulless dogshit. I could add another 20 games onto this image but it's just sad at this point
Its interesting how there is not a single good game in that picture, the fact that nearly all of them are open world surely has nothing to do with that.
It's the 'I went to college to learn how to make video games' UI.
but then it becomes cluttered again. nu-gow is already getting too busy.
square slop
stop reposting shit and instead post good menus
videogame ui peaked here, but it's no surprise, when your entire company is making games where all the gameplay is just navigating menus, you gotta be good at it
when is this shit being released? I'm just buying it for the giant goth girl
This works a lot better in 4:3 I dont think they put enough thought into the ps3 versions
shit
added another row
It’s really not that hard to design a simple UI with some identity in it
ummm this is hecking fascist and ableist and stops it being ported to mobile easily and doesn't follow 2025 UX design standards that I learned in college plus it's creative and therefore off-putting to our focus groups okay???
Here, in case you want to add another one.
amen
The AAA slop UI
(not exclusive to only AAA games btw)
This is simple yet still manages to have its own appeal. Bug Fables did a pretty good job of making the most of their limited budget.
What do you call this kind of UI?
soulless dogshit garbage
We call it industry standard
what really rustles my jimmies is how all the icons converge towards either
render of the model
or
1 color flat abstraction
and i am the sort of faggot that likes wackass shapes and flat coloring
but who the fuck decided that sterile vector graphics from word processors is the way to go?
its called "designed by a college student"
made to the specification of a standard set by faggot education institutions who prioritize function and actively suppress aesthetic form in order to make a population of fully interchangeable workers for this sector of the industry
Teams are too big for their own good, so are companies.
Do you like cyberpunk 2077 menus?
Corporate product efficiency design. No passion, no artistry, no soul.
Remember when action adventure games didnt have RPG elements and skill trees
shut up and eat your diamonds
We're making a online fps shooter
they're literally a slop menu featured in most image comps like its barren and uncreative even if you're trying to soft ball it and say its le sovlless tech dystopia ui
its one or two tone boxes over a flat gradient when it could at least do some bare minimum visual breakup by placing corpo ads in the empty space
Retards
It's a "we need to make it easier for retarded console players" ui
Theres nothing wrong with this
I am willing to put blame entirely on cawadooty. All the """progression""" stuff ported as a concept over from MMORPGs to exploit the obsessive. At some point all the big games decided that selling MTX is much easier when everything is quantified. Hence "RPG elements" in everything under the sun.
Bros i want to work in game design so im curious how to make a sovlful UI. I think i'll take inspiration from SS2 where the UI feels like an in universe thing.
i mean, if it works it works, eh? nothing wrong with it, either, i like it.
most retarded idea in the world
maybe if you are a retard yourself, then it's not so bad, but then you better be ready to be either a fag (to appease HR) or a tester (absolute bottom)
witcher3 had it and that game was insanely successful and liked, even on here.
yeah witcher 3 is shit
Oh, so that means you'll keep shilling it then?
but who the fuck decided that sterile vector graphics from word processors is the way to go?
Because when they were introduced to smartphones a decade and however long ago, a solid square icon with A letter on it was the most eye catching thing to have on phones. A lot of icons at the time were still actual pictures or renders, and grandmothers and zoomies alike who had 500 icons on their desktop couldn't pick out the shortcut they needed. So a few companies went with the boring GREEN SQUARE WITH TD on it approach, then a few more, and a few more...
Eventually, following the trend became so standardized that it's backfired and these lifeless icons are now difficult to tell apart. Maybe we'll see a shift back in a few more years, who knows. But as for game devs, most devs these days are sheeple who blindly do what boardroom CEOs tell them to do, or get their ideas from being fresh out of college. So expect them to be years behind the curve as always.
fps shooter
It's called the "I'm a soulless bugman" UI
No good game has this ui
It's a reskin of witcher 3, no question. I do like the curve, some minor twitches and the colours. Else it's objectively bad.
Are there good ui examples in games made post 2020
I don't know what it's called but it sure as hell looks bad
Meanwhile, some games are actually trying
woke-accessible
it's woke in the fact that they obviously hired an accessibility consultant that guided and produced the most bland and boring cookie cutter UI for readability and useability's sake that is complete function over form often sacrificing the game's aesthetic entirely
Soulless corporate slop.
mostly just indie game stuff like Pentiment, Highfleet, Caves of Qud, Saga of Sins, Songs of Conquest,
Diablo 4, PoE 2, Intravenous 2 (indie but who cares), Disco Elysium, Persona 5, Expedition 33, some Paradox games (Vicky 3, Imperator Rome, CK3), Rogue Trader
Persona 5
I meant the fantasy one kek I had a brain fart
ReFantazio
It looks cheap and pulled straight out of fortnite. I won't play the game
wow, I've only played one out of those and almost didnt because it used this gay ass menu style which usually comes with "features" pandering to zoomers like skinnerboxing and fucktons of paid stuff
This is actually the worst one I've ever seen despite not actually following the tabbed rectangle trend.
Materia and Equipment is combined, which is good, but it also lets you adjust weapon upgrades while the actual Weapon Upgrades option on the menu does literally nothing. Party option doesn't actually let you adjust your party, it's two settings deep in Combat Settings. Basic bitch crafting option is at the top of the menu for some reason. Backdrop choice is just odd for something you'll be seeing the entire game. Dumb "zoom out" animation that makes you wait a couple seconds before you can do anything. There are a lot of dumb decisions within these options too.
It's especially bad because there are two games directly comparable to it that do it better, both FF7 and FF7 Remake. I now FF7 has less options, but still the majority of these options are actually comparable to thing that were in the original which got separated for no reason.
I swear uifags have daily mental breakdowns over wheels being round.
The 'we need to adapt our UI to any resolution and screen ratio' and don't want to think about it.
people who live on mobile devices
I'm fairly sure Destiny was the first to do this fake mouse nonsense. Then it spread.
the "we need to max profit and lessen cost" ui
It's the "we don't know how to design good RPG systems" UI.
Corporate slop UI
It's shocking how the more expensive the game the more afraid devs are to have some actual art assets in their UI. I need that ornate King's Bounty interface in my veins.
Console UI
netflix/smart tv UI
proud to admit i've yet to play a game with this UI
youtu.be
Post soul ui
What were they thinking?
I'm not sure how to feel about that "status screen is fully rendered party" look yet.
literally everything in one screen
PEAK
To be JRPGs menus are very much copy-pasted because they were designed around basic D-pad inputs.
Space Marine 2 doesn't belong there.
Globohomo
Caves of Qud is pleasant to look at.
... Why? Is this a cyberpunk game?
Money lenders are jumpy and easily scared.
RT? Really? After fucking wotr up, I erased owlkeks from my games list or rather dev list. Is d4 worth playing? I might invest 20, if solasta 2, larian ea or tq2.
Bad, really bad.
Lavitz, my beloved.
Then there is also nothing wrong with every other game posted in this thread
It's blight from Windows 8 and Microsoft's push to make a touch screen based OS.
Left over UI trash that was a trend for a month but forever stained the user experience once the nonsense was taught at schools and now we're stuck with power point UIs for everything for both the lazy and the cheating students that can't innovate anything new, usually chinamen.
d4 is not worth playing but the ui is not flat soulless shit
I'm liking rogue trader so far but even if I didn't it does have an artistic ui
I think you're a retarded nigger who doesn't understand that if the question is "what are some examples of newer games with good ui" the answer is "games with good ui" and not "good games"
I think you're a retarded nigger
Wtf
rt ui
Will check it out, now I'm curious. Iirc the colour selection is wonky.
I don't even think it works. UI like this has way too much tiny text, and it's too difficult to read, especially if you are sitting aways from the screen. I find this kind of UI outrageously dysfunctional. It is very difficult to read the text for all the perks and item descriptions and stuff.
Got no problem with UI but i have problem with diablo loot system, +2% damage, +4% skill damage bullshit like this
