At some point you people HAVE to learn that the competency crisis is real and we’re deep in it. The reason why the series fell off a cliff after 4, and why 4 was a downgrade from 3 in several ways, was because the game dev industry had been falling into a competency crisis which progressively got worse until about a decade ago when most competent developers seem to have disappeared almost entirely. BF4 was like the last gasp of a competent, high-class dev team taking on an ambitious project. There was an interview with some dev in BF4 who complained that there was a ridiculous amount of effort put into creating content for the game and that it would be “never again”. Could you IMAGINE a studio today regardless of budget making such an ambitious game as BF4? Remember the commander app for iPad? Totally absurd, I can’t even picture it happening today regardless of the franchise or company. That’s because talented, dedicated strong devs don’t work in game dev anymore. They CAN’T make a good game, it’s NOT an issue about “listening to players”, “greed”, or any of that shit, it’s about baseline capability.

The game you want DICE to return to was a product. DICE does not want to sell products because they do not have as high a profit ceiling as live-services such as Call of Duty Warzone or Fortnite. DICE does not want you as a customer; they'd much prefer to be selling to the Warzone/Fortnite audience. However, they've finally recognized that, as much as they don't want to cater to you, they need you to buy the base game. Some group needs to prop up the initial playerbase enough to attract the attention of the audience they actually want. So they'll pass off just enough scraps of a good BF game to you while keeping the bones of the game for their intended consumers. You will be given classes and on-map vehicle spawns because that doesn't impact the real revenue stream. You will not be given full teams of faceless grunts or a server browser because that would impact the real revenue stream.

They spend millions on market research and have people whose job it is to read social media and figure out what the reception of the game is. They know BF players want just progressive iterations of BF3. They know everyone hated the hero shooter elements and didn't want BF to be a BR.
They know, they just don't care. It's not the cusomers who have them by the balls, it's the investors. Any publicly traded company is at the mercy of a horde of schizophrenic bean counters that don't know the first thing about your industry and will turn you into the next Ubisoft if you don't make them happy.

I just tried BO6 for the first time last night and while some of the gunplay elements are great on there, i think 2042 is still the best shooter out there. I hope 6 isnt too much slower than 2042.
