TRVKE NVKE

Twilight Princess and Windwaker had the best style

Where's Echoes and Triforce 2

**V** *V**

go back

where's A Link Between Worlds

As a zoomer, one of the things I envy about millenials and Xers is that they lived through a time when cool new groundbreaking hardware was popping up every decade

Flip phones to smartphones

OG Doom to Halo

Walkman to Ipod

Sega genesis to PS2

Nowadays every new phone is about how it is sleeker by a centimeter and has a slightly better camera than the one I had 5 years ago. I'm starting to wonder if those late stage capitalism faggots have a point.

not gonna bait me you motherfucker

14.jpg - 546x620, 69.57K

And now everything old is coming back in uglier-than-original remakes instead of still progressing forward but slowly.

All the innovators retired and took their knowledge with them, since employee value doesn't exist in companies, no one wants to leave behind the framework/fundamentals for the following generation to carry on from.

You really had to be there, zoomerbro

Okay so why don't YOU come up with stuff that is new

We plato'ed on tech, twice now
In the 90s to 2010s we plato'ed on desktop tech power and from the 2000s to 2020s we plato'ed on mobile tech

A mobile chip is as powerful as a desktop chip

HUR DURR MY THREADRIPPER IS FASTER THAN YOUR TEXAS INSTRUMENTS CHIP

That is not what I am talking about, there are stupid powerful desktop chips, yeah, but we don't need them
A mobile chip is powerful enough to do 99% of desktop workloads and as "cool" it is to think that a phone chip can do all that, it is also terrifying that even if we can make more powerful chips, for fucking what?
Games look marginally better than the year before since 2014
No wonder Nvidea is banking hard on AI and RT

I know this will sound like cope, but I'm 100% convinced there's been serious R&D going on with Zelda across this span of time. I have always felt that BOTW/TOTK were like tech demos for much more involved Zeldas to come.

It's one reason I think there was such a gap of time between BOTW and TOTK. I think that it was basically a proving ground for any concepts that can be used in the true next gen project.

Breakneck development speeds only shown that people are not ready for it and that the society isn't prepared for the future that sci-fi authors described in the 70s. Just look at how people cling to the limitations and imperfections of the decade or two old tech that was left behind too fast, we were not ready to discard it and those who have grown up on it will forever miss it because that world where they've spend their childhood straight up doesn't exist anymore, discarded in the name of "progress". There is value in familiarity and stability and the only people who want infinite growth are the people who profit from it.

Yeah that's another thing. Instead of making new and innovative stuff, companies are just banking on people's nostalgia for when they could make new and innovative stuff. Extends to Hollywood as well.

Hey look, it's a flip smartphone! You know, like in the 2000s?!

In fact, I'm starting to wonder if all the 90s nostalgia threads on Anon Babble made by millenials and anemoic zoomers is less about the tech itself and back when creativity was still abound in science and culture.

And more about back when* creativity

I still can't comprehend what happened with Tears of the Kingdom's development. How did it take 6 years to churn out an asset reusing sequel set in the exact same worldspace?

What compelled them to have 2 year gaps between OoT, MM, and WW? Even back then the mainline Mario's went from 96, to 02, to 07, giving time for the developers to breathe.

two good games on top

two good games on bottom

They make less bad games now?

Windwaker

I still remember everyone relentlessly shitting on the graphics when it was revealed. Time has been really kind to it

We're actually going to be stuck with BotW/TotK for another three years minimum

Majora's Mask's dev time spooked Aonuma so hard he went in the opposite direction going on almost twenty years now after Twilight Princess

oscar.png - 364x405, 354.19K

Majora's Mask was originally supposed to be just a remixed Ocarina but Aonuma wanted to make a new game, so Miyamoto agreed to let him do it under the condition that it had to be done within a year.

A mobile chip is powerful enough to do 99% of desktop workloads

I used to think this was bullshit until I started watching people play the witcher or gta through Winlator on their cell phones.

The only logical step forward in progress is fully immersive VR, but to achieve that level of sheer technical prowess will be long after we're all dead and gone.
And even that generously assumes nothing causes everything to turn to utter shit and erase all of humanity's progress.

I didn't know how good I had it.

I really hope you're right. But I also fear that Nintendo has turned their work environment into a softie no pressure zone.

4 rushed games vs. 1 rushed game

Amazing. Nintendo's Zelda EPD team might be the worst devs in all of history.

BotW slop isn't Zelda.

late stage capitalism

Non-term.

I really hope you're right. But I also fear that Nintendo has turned their work environment into a softie no pressure zone.

Industry is collapsing.
We used to have 1-3 releases in a big IP every gen usually. Now if you get one every 2 you're lucky.
More time has passed between Skyrim and now than from the very first TES release to Oblivion.

nintendo was probably in a panic trying to get their consoles to sell. the only gamecube game that was financially worth the crunch was probably twilight princess, and only because the wii fad helped it

it makes alot of sense that aunouma would hate most of his pre-botw games, because the workload was probably genuine sweatshop levels

There's nowhere to meaningfully go up is the thing. All you can do is reiterate on the last thing you did but bigger and prettier.
But because that's expensive as fuck, it's easier to just remake, remaster, port, and so on.

best games of all time were made under insane crunch

why?

This thread was posted before. However, I saw a post previously that said "quality vs quantity" which I thought was funny considering both BotW and ToTK fucking suck. They may have a good idea here and there but overall, they're slogs and not worth playing.

technological stagnation has nothing to do with the economic model lol
currently, quantum bullshit is stopping everyone from making smaller transistors

if you have time to spend with your family then thats time not spent making goty

reddit frog

That was basically only OoTfags. There were plenty of people who liked the artstyle even when it released.

Could someone take this image and add all of the other zelda games (including spinoffs) and also include the two hyrule warriors games based on botw?

total zoomer holocaust

Grim Future for this franchise

Fuck it, i'll do it myself and make another thread because I like compiling images like an autist. I don't actually care about the argument but I just want to compare artstyles

I'd take the bottom 2 any day over the top 5

the only good one on the top is ocarina of time

BotW killed this franchise

The real issue is the hardware those games ran on. Shit is unplayable without emulation.

BOTW released in 2017, retarded tranny

The gameplay aged like dogshit which is why WWtards focus on visuals

BotW killed this franchise

It saved it. Zelda has descended into linear slop. Sales were dwindling. Long term players were bored and long given up the series. By Skyward Sword, it barely recognizable as Zelda beyond the name

BotW was inevitable. A back-to-basics approach which Nintendo would have landed on at some point. BotW is the best selling gaming in the series and finally restored it to its roots by being a fucking adventure game again.

It was honestly insane in hindsight that in 8 years we got OOT all the way through Twilight Princess, whereas in 6 years we went from Breath of the Wild to Breath of the Wild with a few new features.

Then why would I rather replay LttP or the original zelda way more?

Don't bother with him. That's our resident BOTW dicksucker, also known as Arthur. He's just here to stir up the pot.

lolno

Because you're a gay homosexual faggot

ALBW is genuinely one of the best Zelda games. Echoes was fun too if you self limit.

Does that double negative mean I'm straight?

Why would you rather play old 2D rather than new 3D ones? Seems like a dumb comparison.

ALBW is genuinely one of the best Zelda games

Based

Echoes was fun too if you self limit.

This, the game was kino once I decided to self limit myself from finishing the fucking game. First zelda game that I've straight up dropped, what the hell were they thinking?

Because 2D and 3D have nothing to do with one game being better. I'd rather play Tetris than AAA slop like Uncharted, and being 3D doesn't make Uncharted any better.

Sales sales sales sales sales

That's how I know you're a zoomer, sales are all that matters to you, if it's the best selling it must somehow mean it's the best in the series

as a broke nigga im enjoying it since i havent had to upgrade my shit since 2018. as a kid i envied everyone around me 2 console generations ahead. sure i feel sad theres nothing new to look forward to, but the lack of that also has saved me a fuckton of money for almost a decade

Let's be honest here, it's not like you know enough about older Zelda games to call them good anyway.

I'd rather play Tetris than AAA slop like Uncharted

Tetris doesn't provide the same experience as Uncharted. While Tetris is fun and addictive, it is ultimately simplistic and shallow with no lasting impact on the player. If you want to play simplistic shallow games then knock yourself out. But trying to dismiss entire genres with flippant, disingenuous and dismissive generalizations, it only goes to show your mind is as shallow as your taste.

sales are all that matters to you, if it's the best selling it must somehow mean it's the best in the series

Quite clearly you're a child. If a series sells well, it means I get more of it.

being a kid in the 90s fucking ruled.

Literally admitting to being a brainless sheep that only cares about sale

Yup. Zoomer alright

it is ultimately simplistic and shallow with no lasting impact on the player

Much like uncharted. However Tetris gets progressively more difficult while uncharted doesn't.

Tetris is fun

but it's simplistic and shallow and if you like it, you're a retard

Thanks for admitting you know absolutely nothing about Zelda

Tetris gets progressively more difficult while uncharted doesn't.

What does that have to do with anything? Silver Surfer on NES gets progressively more difficult. And that game is shit.

Imagine missing the point this hard

And that game is shit

Much like uncharted except it doesn't have the excuse of being an early game.

Counterpoint: the bottom two are really great and have sold more than the top 5 combined. How many 80-hour playthroughs can you get with MM or SS?

I agree with this anon. If you want a trope-y character-centric series with recurring characters and wacky bullshit maybe try Final Fantasy.

Whatever you say kid

I've spent more time playing randomizers for LTTP than playing BOTW and TOTK combined.

we know snoy

claims to like nintendo games

blatantly hates the two best nintendo games

Predictable snoy behavior

You need to work on your subtlety ACfag.

the DS games aren't there either, is only console games, ALBW is still a step backwards, a watered down ALttP.

The same place Echoes of Wisdom and Cadence of Hyrule are apparently.

It'd be more forgivable if TOTK didn't just re-use BOTW's map.

The entire game is the anti-MM, where MM re-used a shitton assets but created a brand new world, TOTK re-used the world but created a shitton of new mechanics. But most of the enjoyment of open world nu-Zelda is exploring the unknown, not the mechanical complexity of a game where you fly over everything, can climb most walls, and the majority of the game is empty fields. Doesn't help that TOTK really leaned into the build-it-yourself jank while ignoring any criticism BOTW had. And that design principle leaking into EoW was sad to see, just makes the entire game feel monotonous and unsatisfying.

36 year old boomer here, can't speak for everyone but when you live it you don't notice it, not really. For instance my jump from a cellphone to a smart phone was underwhelming because the latter just felt like a shitty, laggy mini computer. I never trusted the gps on it and barely browsed the internet, I'd print out mapquest and use my desktop for internet shit and used my first smart phone for calls and texts, nothing really else. I think the thing that impressed me most was the keyboard but blackberries already had that so whatever.

The walkman to ipod reference is interesting though because I recently visited my hs friends and one whipped out or hs yearbook where there was a "new technology" page. another friend had a small interview where he talked about how happy he was not having to haul around his cd folder now that he had an ipod.

523535355.jpg - 474x474, 37.07K

If you told me as a child that I would eventually dislike Zelda, I wouldn't believe you.

and both are almost the same game lmfao, nintendo on shambles

Same
BOTW, TOTK and Echoes were all fucking dogshit. Last zelda games that I truly enjoyed were ALBW and goddamn Tingle's Baloon trip of love

Totk being shit is an extremely debatable subject, but at least I think we all can agree that its fanbase is objectively the single worst one in the franchise

OoTsnoys are worse

Has ACfag starting shitting himself and ranting about Terraria yet? This is his Saturday night lmao.

Isn't that your job schizo-kun?

No you don't.

What's the answer, sealion?

plato'd

The Game Cube was really fucking struggling early on. Both Sunshine and Wind Waker were rushed out the door and it's very obvious when you compare them to the development of Mario 64 and Ocarina (to say nothing of the quality of the games themselves).
There's a reason the Game Cube's most acclaimed games were Melee, Metroid Prime and things other than Mario and Zelda.

This is his Saturday night lmao.

Sad isn't it, you'd think he'd at least have some kind of hobby.

Having fun talking to yourself, sweetie?

he's already here

KEK

36 years old and you're on an anime forum using le heckin cute and wholesome cat pictures for avatars.

I'd easily forgive TOTK's map if they would've just done a better progression system than shrines and koroks again. Like give me more reasons to go in the sky or underground.

Tears of the Kingdom honestly made me stop being a Zelda fan. In that I'm no longer gonna buy Zelda games day 1. They've turned into a scam.
Echoes did the same thing for me with 2D Zelda, but just because it was so painfully mediocre and had no talent put into it. Grezzo shat out a bland asset flip of a bad remake, stapled a repetitive gimmick onto it, and called it a new game.
Modern Zelda is not exciting. Even the DS games were more compelling.

and link between worlds

Stop asking questions!

Why are the so fucking insufferable and gay?

Nintendo derangement syndrome.
They feel personally hurt by anyone saying anything mildly positive about Nintendo.

the same map in 13 years

the reality is that technological progress doesn't move that fast, the last few decades just happened to evolve way faster than normal as a result of the industrial revolution but now it's going back to normal and it takes something groundbreaking to speed up things
AI might be leading to big changes in the future tho

And here we have a BotWtranny with the traditional complete lack of self awareness.
