damn, this is HUGE
Steam might be coming to xbox
Steam isnt coming to Xbox, this all originates from that mockup image that came out around the time the new Xbox was announced.
random twitter thread
kill yourself
If every game from steam worked on Xbox I'd cum
Steam will never be on Xbox because Microsoft will stop making recurring revenue from their machines. You're retarded if you think it will happen
snoys """""""""""""""""""""""""""""exclusives""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" are gonna be playable on xbox
holy l e l
The Microsoft Store isn't Xbox lol, Epic Store is even already on the MS Store for years, you can't get it on the Xbox.
They're just getting it on the MS store to make it easier to get Steam on their "Xbox handhelds" (Which are Windows handhelds)
While this most likely could be true it's still extas1s so, I'll wait and see.
why?
It probably will be on Xbox but no third party store game will be optimized on the Xbox handheld hybrid or home console next generation. Only Microsoft Store games will be optimized and will start getting the same games Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and Steam gets.
the only way this could work is if a steam license activates a game that is already avaiable on xbox
or pc via the microsoft store
not that steam exes are magically gonna run on console
I mean xbox runs off a Windows 10 variant.
The next Xbox is Windows-based so this will no longer be an issue, everything on the Microsoft Store should just work. The real question is will it be optimized on anything other than the Microsoft Store and I don't think Microsoft will go that far.
MS Store is for Windows and Xbox is for Xbox. All of these come from the same company, so they are basically the same. Your GoyPass works the same across Xbox and MS/W Store.
Epic being on the MS/W Store doesn't mean anything because the thing already runs on Windows, an OS designed to be more open than MAC but not as open as Linux. Windows was meant for companies to run their own software not to play games on it. Windows profits mostly come from corpos buying keys in bulk not from users, although they now give it to us for free in exchange for stealing our data.
Steam will never be on Xbox because no matter how you slice it it makes no sense. MS, Nintendo, Sony don't make money from selling systems but from royalties from the software sold on it. If Xbox gets Steam MS would only be losing even more money on Xbox than they are already losing. It's completely fucking retarded and nonsensical unless Valve agrees to somehow compensate MS.
muh sources
muh steam on xbawx
muh half life 3
Microsoft is phasing out Xbox One/Series ERA development environment for Win32 next generation 2027 so it'll work because the next Xbox is just a locked down Windows PC with locked down specs for both the hybrid and home console with an Xbox UI instead of a desktop. They're consoles only in name.
Maybe I have 80IQ but in what way it's relevant? Steam app in Xbox menu? Oh wow fucking great.................
that's a huge oversimplification
unless it's litreally just a pc, it would take tremendous amount of work
are you retarded, a pajeet or a bot?
It's just a PC wearing an Xbox mask with the Xbox version of updates over Windows meaning everything just updates with one go. It'll look like a more open console when it's actually just a PC but locked down.
but locked down
that's the thing
how are you going to lock it down while allowing traditional 32 bit binaries to run?
Are you, why would Microsoft optimize anything outside of their own games in the Microsoft Store, you use other stores and chances are, they won't be optimized for the locked down console because they'll open their own app instead of being a part of the Microsoft Store. You'll download and install these stores for free on the Microsoft Store but after that, third party stores are on their own from here. Games in third party stores will vary when it comes to optimization of Microsoft's own next gen Xboxes.
For all of the shitting on xbxo gets, what does the ps5 have? I was just giving one by my brother. I cant find anything other than Astrobot.
Why does the PS5 sell at all? Where are the games?
same reason valve has third parties optimize their games for the steam deck you genius
Microsoft should just start selling prebuilt gaming PCs that also work on a TV excellently. Have a Windows "game" mode that instantly transforms the Windows OS into a console UI. When you are setting up the Xbox prebuilt it could ask if you will be using a TV or a monitor. They would make more money that way.
Never happening. Steam has a horrible reputation for allowing just about anything in the store from games that don't work to literal malware.
Allowing users to run their Steam library on Xbox basically means allowing them to run any userland Windows program, and that means the console would be hacked in no time at all.
By not having a Desktop and instead only having an Xbox UI while only accessing third party stores in the Microsoft Store thus locking down security.
in the Steam Store
That's why they're optimized, anything outside of that like in the Desktop mode in other third party stores outside the Steam Store, they're unoptimized. This is because Valve controls everything Steam but as no control over anything outside of that because they don't own those.
Microsoft jumping through literally every hoop imaginable to not just let Xbox users install Windows because they don't want to give up paid online
so UWP?
If it's on the Microsoft Store, Valve and Microsoft may work something out in terms of security.
as opposed to microsoft?
You think Xbox can't cut a deal with Steam to get a cut over games sold on their hardware?
It could even be something different like xbox keeping a bigger cut of the revenue over first party titles in exchange of increasing steam's reach to the console market or allowing Game Pass to be accessed on Steam, like EA Pass
Consoles are sold at a loss, the only money Microsoft makes is through softare sales and subscription services. There are a lot of deals they could make with Steam
That's getting phased out too for just Win32.
Their next console sounds like may be that.
UWP exists exactly for what you described
phase it out and you're left with a regular ass pc
Well, it'll use Win32 dev environment with an Xbox UI but no desktop. Would that mean the end of paid online or does that mean they can keep it?
Same deal as Valve with Steam. Microsoft can't optimize outside their own store. The other stores would have to take into account Microsoft's next gen Xboxes.
How would this work exactly?
Same deal as Valve with Steam
exactly my fucking point
you asked why would microsoft optimize anything outside of their own games and you just answered yourself
a regular ass pc
That's technically what it is, I'm interested in seeing how it's handled. Microsoft is reworking everything on Microsoft Store to entice third parties like they did with Xbox. Microsoft may finally get games that usually miss the Xbox now but I do wonder about porn games. How will Microsoft handle that, would they even allow that?
xbox
it's dead
steam takes 30%
microsoft takes 30%
government takes 20%
kek
Yep. Only a few years away from mandatory DEI.
Steam is just gamepass but more expensive
play online with PC users
No thanks.
Windows has nothing to do with it. It's expensive to upkeep servers. Steam is just a storefront. Each individual game is responsible for its own servers.
i think the most likely scenario is:
xbox intergrates gamepass into steam
steam is added to the xbox store, works with valve to add a version of proton that lets you play any PC game on xbox
this would mean the last of us, spiderman, all playstation 'exclusives' on xbox.
xbox is going towards making the console be the more profitable unit rather than the games
they'll work with valve to add a 5% cut on sales made through xbox or something
but xbox consoles are going to be a PC gaming competitor rather than a console gaming competitor
Console is, brand isn't
This is why I'm wondering, will the next gen Xboxes have paid online?
Xbox consoles are dead, Microsoft is turning them into PCs, this isn't Valve bending to Microsoft but the other way around. These PC games will be native, not cloud.
ps5 literally has nothing bro. this board is filled with snoys who have a hate boner for xbox lol.
Xbox consoles run a DX12 API, it wouldn't make sense to make a proton version when they could just run the PC version through Steam with their own API that the OS maker already has in place.
brand
lmao
There is no brand. There's a big cattle farm being served GamePass. Nobody is buying consoles. Nobody gives a fuck.
GAYLO is dead. Gears of War is dead. Forza is everywhere.
People are reading into this too much. This is just about being able to downloading steam from the microsoft store on pc instead of using a web browser.
Everything gaming is an Xbox to Microsoft, the consoles will become Windows as well. That is your Xbox now.
that would be hilarious
As long as I can still turn off PC crossplay I'm fine with that.
If anything starts with that fucking eye emoji its a scam or fake
