Best Boomer-shooters on the market?

Best Boomer-shooters on the market?

header.jpg - 460x215, 36.79K

Nah not really. I played the first level and it quickly became you trying to find the perfect pixel to headshot an enemy from distance. The level design is WAY too open.

I agree, I still liked it tho, maybe because it's just one chapter so it didn't become repetetive, unlike most other titles

You do you man. But Blood is way more tightly designed. Playing Cultic just made me want to play Blood.

find boomer shooter

look closer

is early access

every single fucking time

at least until the second chapter comes out

Cultic is standalone chapter.

Dusk
Cultic
Wrath
Ion Fury
Amid Evil

i stopped playing at the pitch dark spooky garage level

boomer shooters suck and they killed the fps genre

I enjoyed Cultic but I think they went just a little too hard on the "deep-fried" aesthetic.

go back to where you belong, nigger

Worst post on Anon Babble.

ultrakill

after playing doom dark ages 40k boltgun felt pretty good

I like the reload system and how the guns feel. I dont care about the fetish stuff but it isnt egregious, tho i have to say sniping and using explosives is really really fun

Boltgun was boring as shit, i beat the second boss and just kinda stopped playing

Still have yet to find any nu boomer shooters as good as DUSK, honestly

I just boughted this yesterday. The game is great and oozes soul but am I retarded that you can't resume your current level after going back to sanctuary? I have to replay the entire chapter over again?

dusk is ironic trash

still blows every other new age boomer shooter out of the water in terms of gameplay

Ashes is insanely good and free

Why the fuck do you leave the descent before beating the boss?

I know Anon Babble complains about everything, but what did people not like about Prodeus? I really enjoyed it.

71kDtADscrL.jpg - 1920x1080, 146.57K

Iirc descent 2's first map could be cleared out in ~2 minutes and the second one was a long alley filled with rocket ammo pickups, so I went there a couple of times to fill up my stock. You have to clear a map to save your characters progress, ammo and weapon pickups, but once you were at the third level you could jump back to sanctuary and resume whatever you were really doing.

Because there is no notification whatsoever telling me how the system works beforehand?

Which boomer shooter has the best map design?

Every single weapon feels gimmicky and even worse dull.

The sequel is actually more accessible than the first one (still somewhat punishing). I basically had to play through the whole first game as a stealthy cover shooter, because the whole map came gunning for you once you fired your first shot.
Yep. Bring your A-game or stay a casual failure.

Was anyone else disappointed by this one? I played through it and enjoyed it, but it's one of the best rated boomershooters on steam and I found it to be just decent.

I never felt the need to do that, but it also took me till the last ex level to see what happens when a weapon reaches 0%

the first episode of Doom is the gold standard. Blood had some really nice ones.

sorry I meant modern/indie ones obviously classics are goated
I haven't run into an indie one that had especially strong map design, they usually lean into the presentation and combat

where the fuck is chapter 2?

How do the guns feel in the first? I only played the second game after stumbling over a decent amount of porn of the protac

Really? I think I had a shotgun go 0% on me in like the fifth or sixth descent

never saw this one before, thanks

Fair i guess

Too many hit scanners

I liked it but the unlimited mid-level respawns was a horrible idea.

Some minor difference in one or two weps, other than that basically the same. Most importantly the sequel removed the bullet-time you got from doubletapping into your O2 supply, which actually made Beyond Citadel a bit harder and melee combat much less viable than in the first game.

lrn2dynamite

only an issue for dynamitelets or a (You) problem?

How till you get the over-under barrel one the spread is far to wide to use them as a all purpose workhorse

just ignore all other weapons

Great game design.

I wouldn't say "best," the game has some minor-ish issues, but it's a very enjoyable one that I feel has become unfairly forgotten

runs like shit
doom eternal performs better than this

The game's enemy design is so dogshit you have to play it like a SWAT game.

there are plenty of other enemies you use the other weapons for. the dynamite is just crucial in moments when you run into multiple hitscanners at medium range is all. also, crouching actually makes it harder for them to hit you.

I never used meele except for memey shit with incapacitated enemies, sluts had it coming breathing like that just because their guts are hanging out. Maybe i should try the first one just to try the axe

Hated the checkpoints/unlimited lives system. Just a terrible idea not to give me the option to turn it off and maybe just ironman levels instead of having me make exit to the world map and then re-start a level every time.

I would liken it more to Hotline Miami than I would SWAT, but whatever.

I hated that the weapons had levels and rarity

Anon Babble full of gaming journalist tier normie casuals

We really shouldn't be surprised at this point.

I'm extremely biased towards the game but Overload just felt so damn good to navigate. Like it was mostly mining station interiors and space rocks but it was laid out in such a way where you could just tell where the secrets where or where you'd already been.

Hedon

AAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh~~~~

This might have some truth to it: The goddamn demo was absolutely great and made me put the game on the wishlist. It seems to be real stingy with sale prices though...

the cultists jabbering capped off with a explosion and homer simpson-esque screams is one of the best things in life

Hedon looks great and I love the character and world designs in it but I'm way too much of a brainlet to deal with the Hexen-style level progression.

I love the character and world designs

SHOVE
IT
UP
YOUR
OWN
ASS
GAME

I know, I don't care
I wouldn't buy the game to fap to it

I absolutely loved it and found it to easily be worth full price, it'll probably take you 20+ hours to finish both chapters and the quality of the level design only goes up.

If you played and enjoyed the demo you're probably fine, but do be warned that the game expects you to be paying attention and progression through the levels is usually more complex than finding keycards.

That one goblin is kinda cute

This the only one you got?

it aint the games fault you have shit taste

it's good but it's hardly a boomer shooter.

good gameplay
poor level design

I really enjoyed it. I normally hate rogue-lites, but the progression systems made it far more enjoyable. Also helps that they change up the levels around the time one level type starts to get old.

Tried the demo and this is my exact thought. I rather just play Blood again.

I tells ye the arrange campaign that aftershock introduces makes the game a true 11/10 for old school shootan.

HROT
Selaco
Dread Templar
INCISION
Prodeus
Viscerafest
Dusk
Amid Evil
Ion Fury
Forgive Me Father 1&2
Project Warlock 1&2
Coven
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun
ULTRAKILL
Turbo Overkill
WRATH Aeon of Ruin
Citadel & Beyond Citadel
Blood Fresh Supply
Nightmare Reaper
and, like five hundred other games still waiting for me to buy them on Steam, fucking all boomer shooters.
It's basically endless, I'm pretty sure at this point I could just buy and play boomer shooters and I would never run out of games to play until the day of my death. Some are better than others, some I'd even call pure KINO.

HROT is so janky and weird but I do like it. fuck those spiders though.

seethe more

does it count?

its time to be reminded of Phantom Fury

Nah it's good, but it is massively overrated.

I'm currently playing Doom 1 with Alice mod and having fun, Doom has shitload of maps and gameplay mods you can play

Nah it doesnt exist.

I wasn't Dread Templar's biggest fan but god damn did that have some kino music.

I enjoyed it until towards the end when the autoshotty enemies start showing up. Those things are absolute fucking bullshit. It's especially a shame because the level generation gets way better towards the end in terms of complexity.

Boomer shooters are a gay meme and part of the cancer killing FPS

I fucking love it
There's a book in the sanctuary that lets you level select.

Cool, but which one is the best in your opinion?

I haven't played too many of these modern ones, but I really enjoyed Ion Fury. The level design alone is enough to warrant a playthrough.
A lot of modern boomer shooters have horrifically bad level designs, something that is so pivotal in making a good boomer shooter, and they're fucking it up.

file.png - 307x464, 318.77K

A lot of modern boomer shooters have horrifically bad level designs

Only the bad ones. Just like the 90s, we only talk about/remember the good stuff. Most of the games mentioned in this thread are the upper echelon of modern boomer shooters.

Cultic and especially Dusk stand above the rest. Prodeus is also pretty cool.

Its also boring as shit

Its a good game, with completely bizarre checkpoint system. Still, great levels, good look, pretty good weapons.

I really like Incision

Amid Evil looked pretty but the combat fucking sucked even on the hardest difficulty

Prodeus is awesome but the retarded save system keeps the game from being enjoyable

Its pretty good, but not quite top tier.

saw this screenshot before release and thought "oh shit cool this game's going to have flying vehicle segments"

it's just an on rail shooter section

Incision is super underrated

If you want flying vehicles, play Turbo Overkill.

oh lmao, it's not level select it's just loading tips. My bad, anon

Hrot chads where we at?

Oh cool, I've never heard about this, lets check this o...

Forever in early access slop

Damn

Hrot is bit sad. It started out decently, but I thought it got worse as the episodes went on. More jokes, more gimmicks, less fundamentals.

It took me about 7 hours to get through the 2 episodes available. I didn't think it was too bad for $15. What's there is really damn good.

I'll put it on the list. I have no interest in playing half finished games.

Its weird that there are so many early-access boomer-shooters out there. Ultrakill really paved the way for that, just keep developing something for ever. More devs need that Szymanski mindset and just poop out Chop Goblins and shit.

What happened to that totally-not-doom-3 game shown off at realms deep? Retchid or something?

I noticed that in the back half of Bloodrite you can't finish any one primarch's quest without furthering some other primarch. It's laid out extremely well, I almost never felt like I was at a dead end because everything I was doing was checking off one requirement or another.
The only time I felt actually lost was my dumb ass couldn't figure out how to get into the gold room for an embarrassing amount of time. Everything else just felt like natural progression going through the zones.

You want some really cool obscure "old-school"-ish shooter? Space Beast Terror Fright. Imagine hardcore dungeon crawler Aliens FPS.
Technically it's not a boomer shooter, but it's a shooter and its design philosophy is anything but modern.

whatever happened to that chunky dinosaur horror fps that had the ps1 aesthetic? is that still coming out?

I didn't care for ion fury aftershock. The head spiders were even more annoying than what I remembered.

Cultic has so much fucking soul
It's clear the dude has a lot of fucking passion and it shows
The levels are long and developed with a lot of care, with secrets and goodies hidden all over, lots of atmosphere and bits of good environmental storytelling
Weapons are more traditional than some Epic Plasma Lazor Launcher 9000 and Testicle Explosion Beam but they sound and feel good to use
The soundtrack is fucking awesome and apparently made by the developer too
Just one chapter has pretty much the content of a full game
And it balances action and horror really well, I was impressed with how the game actually made me feel scared when facing zombies
Only complaint is that it relies too much on headshots and enemies feel too tanky if you don't go for the head, but sniping heads from afar makes the game a bit easy
Still great game but Dusk is still king
Also play Blood West

coop multiplayer

holy shit I'm in

hell yea unironically a great recommend but also migraine warning

Just keep in mind, when I say hardcore, it's not souls hardcore, it's actual balls to the wall unforgiving difficulty. 4 pack is dirt cheap on sale, you're a lucky fucker if you have friends willing to play it. Have fun.

Fighting them is the best part of the game tho

Is solo viable?

Wow, someone who isn't me finally shills SBTF.

Still waiting for bots

straftat.jpg - 1920x1080, 434.04K

Quake Arcane Dimensions is still top tier pure ludo and I played Cultic, Dusk, Blood, Amid Evil and Ion Fury btw

Vengance of the Slayer
Brazilian Drug Dealer 3

I liked Dusk but I had to force myself to finish Amid Evil.

4 pack is dirt cheap on sale

(((Steam))) doesn't allow those any more, no? Are you talking about GoG, Humble or something else?

Amid Evil is super overrated. It looks pretty but that's about it.

Nah, AE is one of the best.

doesn't allow those any more

Filtered before even buying the game, lmao.

image.png - 496x235, 31.6K

nigger just look at steam store

... Is this just Space Hulk?

It's fun, but sometimes you would find a broken mod combination on a gun and would just hold onto that one for way too long. I got a quad shotgun that shot giant cannonballs once. Fun, but op as shit.

viable

It will be equally painful solo and in co-op if that helps.

It's very fun. I got it as part of a humble bundle forever ago. It's even got a mode that changes all the weapons out for melee weapons. It's pretty good.

No

Does this looks like Space Hulk?

sbsbsbsbsb.webm - 588x330, 3.45M

Huh, Gaben niggers gotta have gone back on that decision then because 4packs for co-op games were a staple ~10-15 years ago: Then they just said "nuh-uh" and suddenly you couldn't buy them any more. This is the first one I've seen since like 2014?

yeah kinda

So its Space Hulk if the character you play as was not a Terminator.

I AM THE X-SLAYER

Solar Auxilias: The Game, eh? Sounds kinda kino actually

Auxilla doesn't have boarding troops.

I like shooters that give me a challenge so for me it's Ultrakill and Selaco on hardcore mode

This is my favorite boomer shooter ever. Combat is the most satisfying. Like an FPS version of RE4

Yeah, the weapon upgrades are straight from RE4. Level design feels inspired by it too. Its great. I want Cultic chapter 2

The weird meta shit they've got going on with it that fleshes out the hypnospace universe with the fake Zane accounts they created for Twitter and the Steam forums is pretty great.
Fun fact: Zane fucking hates (you) the hypnospace janny even though canonically you saved his life. He was participating in some challenge (that turned out to be fake) with a cash prize of a hundred thousand dollars to stay logged into Hypnospace for 48 hours at the time you ban him and he's thoroughly convinced he'd be rich instead of working a shitty job as a manager at Dollar Shaver if you hadn't banned him.

Go to github seach notBlood enable projectiles cum

i think you're just a dumb faggot

dsda-doom + gzdoom + doomworld
Others are good, but this is unbeatable.

Of those listed my rating is:
Amid Evil > Cultic > Wrath > Ion Fury
Didn't play Dusk.

In the end Dusk mogs them all.

It looks like 3day indie game jam project though. I'll buy it on sale, when it's gonna be like -90%, hope you're not lying and it's worth it.

its not as good as my favorite so it sucks

What is the cutoff for classic boomer shooters?

RtCW is the cutoff.

~8.18 Hz

I really liked it. I only remember people complaining about the save system.

It's probably the most thought out boomer shooter on the market. Everything about it is designer perfection.
