What's Anon Babble's favorite roguelike?

What's Anon Babble's favorite roguelike?

For me, it's Synthetik.

Spelunky doesn't really have "builds."
There's a very small pool of items and equipment you can get and generally you want most of it anyway.
Been playing through Voidigo on and off and it's firmly in the "break it" category, being a healthy mix of Gungeon and Nuclear Throne with a heavy dose of wacky bullshit on top.

minecraft

Spelunky 2 I guess since I play it the most.

the games on the top suck balls for the very same reason that they wont let you get OP

rogue

is it worth buying? and what about the second game?

Rogue is not a Roguelite.
OP is a faggot, but you're acting in bad faith, so you're a bigger faggot.

Void War below Torment VI difficulty. Would be nice if there was some kind of ship customer and an endless mode so I can just keep rolling through the universe with an absolute best of a flagship.

How come? Apparently if your game isn't literally Rogue it is not a Roguelike and therefore we need a new term for it.

Absolutely. It's got a perfect mix of tacticool stuff and high octane violence. Haven't tried 2, though.

Spelunky doesn't have builds
BOI devs have intentionally nerfed gamebreaks. Multiple times

retarded bait image, neither RoR2 nor (modern) binding of isaac allow you to actually break the game in any fashion

Hard to say since 'roguelike' is only one descriptor, not really indicative of how the game actually plays. Despite claims to the contrary, it isn't a genre, just a singular gameplay mechanic.
TBOI, Dead Cells and Slay the Spire are all roguelikes but really don't play anything alike; it's impossible to directly compare them. It's even more abstract than comparing "survival" games, which vary from Minecraft to Subnautica to Rust.

etg

hades

not even roguelike. they are arpgs without rpg progression.

how shit are you at ror2 that you can't break the game over your knee
tboi for sure, that's exclusively based upon luck, but ror2 has so many ways for you to become a death god it's all but impossible for you to not accomplish it on every run if you want to

hades is a comically broken experience that gives you too much damage and safety with the ability to dodge cancel everything

gungeon gives you the gunslinger which nullifies any and all challenge given the endless surpluses of synergies

meanwhile isaac devs keep nerfing shit over a decade after launch because apparently rare combos like guppy and onions milk + libra are bad for the games health and balance(???)

List is comically outdated.

I am clinically addicted to atomicrops, to the pointi got every unlock and nuked my save to unlock it all again

fake genre only created and used by indie troons. you all can't even decide what the definition is

breaking isaac is laughably easy

>gungeon gives you the gunslinger which nullifies any and all challenge given the endless surpluses of synergies

explain

all I know about the binding of isaac's "builds" is that there's caps on dps if you're doing too much damage against bosses, why is it on the bottom?

*without command(+sacrifice)**
**which take off the RNG mask and expose it to be the non-game that it actually is
there is no breaking going on in RoR2 whatsoever. you can always get instantly killed by the retarded DLC enemies or nothing in particular multiplying itself because the 1-hit-kill protection never worked. moreover, you never move past the game's bounds, like in Noita, nor is there any emergent behavior. it's just a shit game that takes the open world approach in mechanics and "levelling", wide as an ocean but shallower than a puddle.

synergies are strong by design, gunslinger gets them for free

hades is balanced around permanent upgrades, your "build" is barely relevant

Yeah this was my first thought. It's normal in most runs after a certain to point to just basically have everything.

Based and fpbp

is that there's caps on dps if you're doing too much damage against bosses

i thought that was just etg

Nuclear throne

Most C tier guns can end up competing with S tier if they have a single synergy, and gunslinger gives all weapons a free synergy.

the last update added a really strong character you have to bust your ass to unlock and he's one of those people who refuses to play anything but easy mode.

TBOI: Rebirth has several "special" bosses like Hush who have scaling damage resistance the more damage they take within a period of time. This isn't an actual DPS cap so much as a DPS limiter. And you absolutely can break through it, it just takes more specific item synergies to do.

pic related and it's not even close
anyone tried out astral ascent? ive had it recommended a few times now, but it looks kind of generic at a glance.

Gungeon should absolutely be in the bottom group. It is trivially easy to rainbow run, hit every secret floor, get the clone, beat the rat, win punchout, go to the RnG Dept, go to hell and kill yourself at the litch, starting the process all over again. By the time you're done that's 20 floors of rainbow chests, plus all of the NUMEROUS guns and items that the rat fight gives you, twice.

Top, I guess, because Gungeon and Hades are pretty much the only roguelites I found enjoyable. Likely because they have actual gameplay, and not just snowballing item builds.

Tbh I also find the pilot, bullet and paradox insanely easy, but the funslinger on average can generate more broken runs than what you'd get out of Isaac.

beat the rat

Also that, you don't even need to hit every secret floor and just getting a single rat item breaks the balance and guarantees a won run off of it.

Out of the new shit probably Path of Achra.

I think in greed mode, the normal greed you fight before ultra is a dps check and ultra greed's health scales based off how quick you put it down

What is BoI doing in the second category?

Trying to garner as many (You)s as possible.

QRD?

yeah, rogue is not a roguelite, it's a roguelike you black gorilla nigger

Ever heard of the term "Roguelite", dumbass?

FPS

Gunfire Reborn

Top down bullet hell

Star of Providence (formerly known as Monolith)

Honorable mention

Nuclear Throne and a recent one: Sworn.

Absolutely hate

Windblown. The Dead Cells devs couldn't balance their way out of a wet strip of toilet paper. I thought it'd be better since it wasn't rollslop. It's fucking shit however!

Monolith is the only rogelikelitewhatever I have actually fully completed. Such a great game.

Nuclear Throne but it's too skill dependent for Anon Babble

One Step From Eden. You can 100% break the game. Personal top 3 game.

Favorite

Atomicrops, a game too hard for 99% of people.

Dislike

RoR2 is absolute retardation outside of Rainstorm. Drizzle is for tedious unlocks and non-monsoon required clears. Monsoon is "you're presently playing a timed run. When we feel like oneshotting you via floor fire, magma worms or other bullshit, it's time to restart!" mode.

Then you add the DLC

More chores, more crap enemies and more items that you can think are good, but aren't. Gearbox drove this game into the fucking ground and it is actually amazing how people dick ride this game!

LOLOL NO FRIENDS

More like no items. Fighting over loot gets bitches whining and power levels cut in half. You won't scale hard enough when paired with most items not helping damage.

Is this bait all the games there have progression ror2 has item character unlocks relics. Isaac and Noita both have meta progression unlocks too

Slay the Spire

NTA but I break the game on max Eclipse which disables relics you're just bad if you have to play command sacrifice or if you're dying to the same shit over and over, every enemy has unique attack patterns movement patterns sound queues on spawn and on attack you can side step every attack in the game. The only even remotely difficult thing is False Sun because he appears 1 stage earlier than the other 2 endings and silences your abilities

This, but modded Slay the Spire.

They're coming out with StS2

It's going to be fucking bad compared to StS1 at worst, average at best.

Modded StS gives me so many characters and difficulties beyond the average ascension, I can just play FOREVER

They fucked up. Why buy the sequel, lmao

necrodancer

One of my favourite things about it is that it has two main ways of playing it, there's the typical rougelite mode where you progress through the game, unlocking new weapons and items over several runs and growing stronger,
then it also just has a "everythings unlocked from the beginning but you have no upgrades". Every single rougelite should have a mode like this that just ignores the metaprogression. Balatro had an option in the menu that just unlocked everything, I really respect that

4656.gif - 406x448, 3.43M

>It's going to be fucking bad compared to StS1 at worst

They removed the defect so this statement can't ever be true.

The metaprogression is just training wheels.

BOI has damage limits like Gungeon.

Enter the Gungeon
Binding of Isaac
Brotato
Slay the Spire?
Balatro?

There's ZERO (0) good balanced mods for sts every character is hilariously broken and gets boring after 1 run you can't make the game harder if everything dies instantly anyway to chuds favorite anime or oc character who is basically a 3way sex baby from goku saitama and superman

how did roguelike perscriptives lose the battle so bad? no one uses roguelite

Noita>powergap>hades>gungeon>ror2>powergap>spelunky>mariana's trench>boi

Isaac is shit. Absolutely disgusting game made by a dude that was obviously diddled as a child. Gungeon completely mogs isaac and makes it irrelevant within its own niche.

Journos have a skin-deep understanding of le permadeath = roguelike and proliferated the title for games that aren't fucking roguelikes. Normies don't play actual roguelikes so they just took the term and ran with it.

All roguelites are shit. Iit's the videogame equivalent of slots.

hades near the top

pft

Hades felt like it struck a good balance between everything
Meanwhile Hades II's progression feels kind of fucked up. The permanent upgrades are so good that the game's actual progression feels more like an idle game where you die a lot so if you get a good run you end up losing it feels like because you just didn't have enough upgrades and if you have a bad run you still end up being forced to play an extra half hour while doing nothing but chip damage because your permanent upgrades carry you. And the story is somehow 10x more gay and boring than the first game.
Never in my life have I felt so así así about a game that I should technically like.

feelings.png - 900x900, 227.9K

Except Isaac and RoR2 nerf everything. Never played noita

i have been enjoying balatro but some of the higher stakes are just total rng bullshit. i very much hope the new update fixes this.

ror2 is bad outside of rainstorm

anon I think you're just bad at the game

I have like 500 hours in Isaac and I don't understand what breaking a run even means.

I like brogue
Nearly ascended last week but died on floor 23 from greed

I miss when "roguelike" actually meant RPGs with in-depth simulation elements and randomly generated worlds and not just game about short "runs" where you pick from 1 of 3 random items to make a build

Independent developers invent Arcade style games again

Stupid people tie themselves in knots trying to relate them to a text based RPG

Spelunky and BoI the only good games in the OP

Out of the image in op, yeah. Dead cells is better than hades. Curse of the dead gods is better than hades. Tiny rogues is slightly worse but close. I was working with what I was given.

Every game in the OP is a good game though.

Basically any scenario you get yourself in where you can generate as many items as you want, or can obtain a powerful item, depending on how much clickbait you want in your youtube video

Nope

I thought the point of the game was to take what you get.
Probably why I'm not very good at it.

Curse of the Dead Gods was awful anon, what are you talking about?

Dota and CS

Yes? You personally not liking them doesn't make them bad.

Probably some 10+ year old version of DCSS from before they started fucking it up and I stopped paying attention to it

Why do you hate the Defect? Please show us on the doll where the robot touched you.

It's usually more fun to play it that way, but honestly if you're smart about what you're doing pretty much every run you can have broken overpowered items.
It's kind of boring to play the game that way though

I'm not saying they're bad because I personally don't like them.

binding of peepeepoopoo

not on the fun size nerf everything land

Time for your steak reminder

No mentions of 30XX anywhere

It's so fucking over. Barony and 30XX are absolute kino and my two highest recommendations.

And Barony is actually a roguelike, not a roguelite!

No, I don't count character / class combination unlocks as meta progression, cause a boulder or a boss can wreck your shit regardless.

Asked me 10 years and I would of said The Binding of Isaac.
Nowadays. something like Risk of Rain Returns and Noita remain as my top played and enjoyed rougelikes.

But deep down FTL and Nuclear Throne remains as king & queen.

k5awez4.png - 388x445, 117.41K

I love Minesweeper so fucking much and this shit filled the hole superbly. For the longest time, it was like crack.
Unfortunately, I can't recommend it since the dev jumped ship and tried to go all in on AI or something. I'm not sure exactly, but he sure as fuck is never coming back. Which means unfortunately, for the second time in my life, Summer will never end.

It's parry slop design over dash dodge design. High heat hades becomes a hand destroyer. BC5 ruins dead cells. Curse of the dead gods is a more methodical and tactical game than reactionary games like dead cells and hades. The pacing is more comfy while still maintaining high difficulty.

nuclear throne beats these by a mile

demoncrawl mentioned

nice. shit's fun and i still WOULD recommend it actually even with its issues, bur yeah it's a huge shame the dev fucked off and disappeared

Nuclear Throne is the only Rougelite I can play for 30 minutes, feel satisfied and then go about my day.
Every other Rougelite just kinda either demands more time from me or just doesn't hit the same arcadey feel.

Since I haven't seen it mentioned: Skul the Hero Slayer. It has some of the best difficulty progression I've seen in a roguelite.

I thought this game was great too. I never got good enough to best the last two hell progressions though.

I really enjoyed this, just wish there was more in general.

Skul

Beat the game once

HEY EVERYTHING IS 4X HARDER NOW YO THIS MIRROR WORLD THOUGH?

I have to disagree. Voidigo is the correct way to do difficulty.

tboi

It's amazing how there are more and more items and yet the games are more generic.

The Binding of Isaac. It's my (late) childhood game. I remember the time when the Rebirth came, but it didn't click with me back then. I've started playing it again when Repentance released and had been having a blast with it. It's comfort game for me at this point.

Recently I've discovered 'Slice and Dice' and I'm playing it most of my free time. It's originally a mobile game, but I think it is its advantage, actually.

I played some Slice and Dice on Mobile before. It got a pc release? Neat.

I really like shiren 5 and omega labyrinth z

Gungeon

Ten billion guns

The more you unlock the worse the pool gets

Rewarded for doing less damage (read: not opening chests)

Punished for getting lucky/doing well (damage caps / invincible phases / YOU WILL BEAR WITNESS TO MY SCREEN FILLING ATTACK EVEN THOUGH YOU CAN ONE SHOT ME WITHOUT SILLY INNATE BAD DESIGN!! shit.)

If Gungeon didn't have the damage caps, it'd unironically be an all timer cause the game is still relatively hard. Particularly the late stuff and as early as the past kills you have to do.

Hades is ass

The more you unlock the worse the pool gets

This is the most fundamental issue that plagues these games.

Well ass is great so I guess that makes sense, Hades is pretty damn good.

Not really related, but

Vampire Survivors

Game knows it has way too much shit

Can turn shit off and never see it again.

It's absolutely something that should be in any game period.

Turn off too much? Disable progression / achievements.

This is fair.

you unlock power-ups in levels like in beat 'em ups in etg/hades.

Slice and dice is top tier. Chrono ark and slice and dice are my top 2.
Looking forward to spire 2. Skipping with prejudice monster train 2. That should give you a bit of perspective on my taste.

It's been a while since I've done a Phoenix Kick run, I think I might do one again tonight.

Untitled.png - 277x342, 220.56K

ass as the animal, not as the body part

Curse of the dead gods is better than hades

Nah this game tries way too hard to fuck over your run while giving you very little satisfaction.
