pretentious plot that revolves around "painters" "canvas" "paintress" and "writers"

twists that make no sense

inconsistent themes and plotholes

b-but it's about the characters, not the story

No. Why do people place this game on a pedal stool of video game writing?

31961396106.jpg - 636x360, 86.39K

The story is literally just a dark souls 3 dlc

Seriously OP, when was the last time you read a book outside of school?

This and Goblu are the best themes.

The whole game takes place in the Painted World of Ariandel?

twists that make no sense

Wait, did people not immediately understand the twist? It wasn't complicated at all. Don't tell me you had to watch some numale on YouTube explain it to you.

12343214234.jpg - 1116x1116, 117.95K

Yes.

It definitely felt like it was headed in that direction.

let's argue for 20 minutes about a note

hmm, seems like our friend has been rescued by faceless zombie hitler, let's act mildly surprised and move on

oh, the note we spent 30 minutes arguing about? should we ask her about it? lol who cares we forgot lets keep going

has killed dozens of enemies so far

NOOOO YOU CAN'T KILL THIS ONE FOR (reasons) OR ELSE WE WON'T LEARN ANYTHING

randomly kills your protagonist and replaces it with someone you've never met before

annoying meme brushes spamming references

MON AMI MON AMI MON AMI MON AMI HEEHEEE

This is a well-written masterpiece, unlike those cringy anime games.

nigger

It's French. You need a minimum of playing/watching it twice to fully appreciate it. Try it.

if your main plot point hedges on made up string theory bullshit about the established fabric of reality. then yeah your writing is ass.
There is no explaining it because box worlds and realities are bullshit. they do not exist or make logical sense.
even within the confines of the plot they create way too many plot holes. when you set up a reality in a story you need to stick with it you don't get to change the rules with an ass pull like that.
FFX & FF7R suck for the same reason. dogshit writing trope.

Remind about FFX. Wasn't it something like a dream or some shit?

yeah absolute dog shit story.

they set up the premise of the story and then killed the likeable main character and had a scammer pajeet take over that role when they offed him

they had a great story about a quest and then switcherooed you with some keeping up with the kardashians bullshit

storys

Oh no, it's too retarded to understand nuance.
Perhaps you'll get it once you're older.

old Zanakand was a dreamworld that's where tidus came from.
The faiths were tired of dreaming and when they stopped Tidus & Dream Zanakand ceased to exist.
E33 blatantly copies this, versos soul is the faiths and he gets tired of "painting" (don't ask me why he needs to "paint" to maintain something that has already been painted) almost likes it's a shitty replacement for "draming". and so he stops when verso wins and the painting is cleared.

Would it have been better if Gustave doesn't die and takes Verso's role instead?

Question to plot point experts.
Aline made all her painted family members including Clea immortal yes? So how is she able to kill herself later on? Did real Clea just remove her immortality as a joke? I guess she would to be honest.

It unironically is probably Asian. Asians are too autistic to understand nuance.

that doesn't really fix the "fake world" trope.
but sure maybe slightly.

Why do chinese struggle so much with understanding themes of anything that isn't grand adventure?

my bad writing is actually...uh...uh...it's nuanced!!! Yeah, nuanced!!! You just don't understand!!!!

Anyway, all my friends just got murdered and killed, I guess I'll go sign up for some tournament held by a bunch of annoying brushes and win because, uh... yeah!!! Who cares about my mission or at least going home and warning people about the fact there's a guy literally waiting on the beach to kill people? I WANNA WIN THE TOURNAMENT!

Ahh, western games are so much deeper and less silly than anime and Japanese RPGs.

That other anon is a fucking retard with a gross misunderstanding of that game's plot. Dream Zanarkand is a physical place that exists within Spira and its inhabitants are basically equivalent to the game's summons, which are forms manifested from the dead souls of living things known ingame as pyreflies. You can have some sort of argument that summons don't exist, but they have a tangible effect on the world of Spira, given that Sin and Yu Yevon are powered by summons. Just because they cease to exist upon unsummoning doesn't mean they never existed or didn't have impact upon the real world, such as Anima killing all of the monsters at Luca. Contrasted with E33 where the only tangible effect the painting has is on the main family's psyche and relationships. A pocket universe where it is a literal dream that cannot affect reality outside.

epic twist hits

feel bad for these horrible god like creatures that create simulation worlds to toy with and abuse the inhabitants of.

do French people really?

Someone who can't spell "stories" has no business commenting on anything that involves words in any way.

Why do people place this game on a pedal stool of video game writing?

sheep

Sodapopping said it changed his life and that it's the best game he has ever played!

The prologue instantly caught my attention with its presentation, and the characters were genuinely interesting. The dialogue felt natural, and I enjoyed seeing them interact and getting to know about Lumiere and its people.

But then Act 2 happens, and it falls apart fast. It’s rushed. A new major character gets introduced without proper build-up. The problem is that this new character’s relationship with the rest of the crew is rushed as hell. You can even speed-run through the persona-like conversations with them one after the other, which is a terrible idea for storytelling. Worse, the crew stops interacting naturally, which they already didn't do much in Act I. Outside of a few cutscenes before or after a boss fight, it’s like the characters forget each other exists. All the charm and dynamics I loved in Act I are just… gone.

The finale of Act 2 tried to be shocking, but by then I was losing interest because of the bad storytelling. Then comes Act 3, and that’s where it really lost me. Suddenly at the 80%- ish of the game, we learn that there’s a confusing parallel canvas world / multiverse-ish plotline. And honestly? I rolled my eyes. It’s not exactly a multiverse, but it’s a similar “worlds inside worlds” concept.

Worse yet, major side characters like Lune, Sciel, Monoco end up playing no real role. They’re irrelevant by the end. Turns out the 30+ hours you spend with these people didn’t matter because the story decides it’s actually about the Dessendre family. Oh, and that world you explored? It’s not even real. It’s a painted illusion. None of it matters beyond this one family’s drama. We get introduced to the details of that story way too late, and only for a short time. It’s honestly kind of tragic. This was a promising narrative that got butchered 3 quarters of the way through. What started as an intriguing, character-driven expedition devolved into a rushed, undercooked multiverse plotline full of wasted potential.

truth nuke.jpg - 218x221, 8.07K

better question
-Why can she make paintings immortal but not herself. Why can she be killed and ejected from the canvas?
-Why can't you just pull someone out of a canvas from the real world to begin with? literally what's stopping you?
the best solution is to start genociding everyone in the hopes they leave? that's so stupid and contrived.

That's nice and all op but I'm afraid threads like these are a diamond dozen.

I loved the story up until the final ten minutes or so. Then I think they make the two best characters suddenly become obstinate assholes instead of considering any obvious form of compromise just to make the final choice harder.

304985.jpg - 1280x720, 52.87K

>>twists that make no sense

to a fucking retard maybe

Something something soul in the canvas, body is a husk without it. Body needs to be sustained irl and without soul, it becomes harder?

I guess the best explanation for question 2 is if you try to pull them out you get the fracture that Renoir and Aline caused.

I wouldn't say that it's a good game. Granted, I didn't play it, but judging by gameplay videos it truly does not look interesting. Basic JRPG garbage combat with parry windows. Yay?

You're completely right about the story though, it's an awful tearjerker story that has no redeeming qualities.

I wouldn't say that it's a good game. Granted, I didn't play it

is this what qualifies as bait nowadays, or are zoomers just truly this stupid?

twists that make no sense

ign japan pls go

More nuanced storytelling of Expedition 33.

Yeah, we sent the climbing expedition out, but they didn't win.

The climbing expedition? Weren't they good at anything other than climbing?

No, they just climbed really good.

How were they supposed to beat the paintress?

They were trying to climb her really hard, but it doesn't seem like it worked, so we tried the grappling expedition instead. They were really good at grappling and making grappling spots and...grappling things.

That's retarded, surely every expedition should be a bit more nuanced than that?

Hmm, maybe. Maybe that's why the Banjo expedition didn't work out either.

How am I stupid for not playing something I know I won't enjoy? I play RPGs mainly for the plot, and this game has an awful storyline. I just don't think that the gameplay looks interesting, so I wouldn't call it a good game.

dude greentexting and trilivializing everything lmao

what are some rpgs with good plot?

Good summary of why the writing is so bad.
The devs think being really pretentious and having sad music will make us suddenly care about the shitty underdeveloped characters in the Dessendre family drama. But we don't, if we care about anyone, it's the characters the game actually spent time on. not the shit ones they just tacked on to the story with an idiotic mechanics.

In fact a canvas is such an obviously immoral and idiotically unsustainable invention that anyone who uses one deserves to be killed. so fuck the family.

Seriously OP, when was the last time you read a book outside of school?

Please answer the question?

judges gameplay and story from fucking twitch streams

please, kys

Oh god we really thought the car expedition would work well on the continent filled with uneven landscape and hardly any functioning roads from before the fracture

It's alright, time to send in the ferris wheel expedition. I'm sure they'll fare much better.

storys

Maybe that's why the Banjo expedition didn't work out either.

Yea, we get it. You thought the story was Le Bad because you hate it when Le Things Are Not Real and Le People You Loved are Le Not Important.
You were buck broken by the conclusions and instead of being honest about it, you're pretending that the story had "wasted potential".

and trilivializing everything

the game does a brilliant job of that itself.

Planescape: Torment, Disco Elysium, BG 1-2
Yeah, I've taken on the habit of reading through a plot synopsis before I pick up a new game/series/book, it ensures I won't be wasting my time and feeling frustrated and annoyed.
Nah I watched a no commentary gameplay video on jewtube.

Real funny.
You a comedian?

The climbing expedition set the grapple points. The goal is to get information or help in some way. The expeditions are mostly people who gommage the next year so it's mostly a suicide mission

you hate it when Le Things Are Not Real

The writing trope you're defending is universally considered to be one of the worst hallmarks of bad writing.
and the devs did it 100% genuinely thinking it was clever.

so is there something you think makes them an exception from all the other pretentious, yet un-selfaware trash that uses this trope?

Oops.png - 857x477, 174.64K

The Switch Zelda games.

you sound like you lack imagination, very sad.

There is no explaining it because box worlds and realities are bullshit. they do not exist or make logical sense.

there is nothing "bullshit" about this. Fantasy games are fantasy because they do not have to adhere to the rules of our world. FF and Expedition 33 don't take place on Earth or even the same universe.

retards are mad the fictional story is also fictional

story is not even important WITHIN ITSELF.

literally why should anyone care then?

You would be one of those retards who would kill yourself if you found out you were living in a simulation huh

Ahh, western games are so much deeper and less silly than anime and Japanese RPGs.

This but unironically

I thought the twist explained everything way better than you could have hoped for instead of pulling a "eh we got nothing" and that in the end it was a very simple story about grieving put in a fantasy world with art wizards.
Nothing too special but overall good execution.
But I think it doesn't resonate with people who want a black and white resolution because in the end everyone was wrong and it was just a tragedy coming from people brraking of loss like it's baguette domino day.

Imagine unironically consuming tvtroons.

laugh man.png - 920x859, 21.47K

Yes. If I enter a world of fictional role playing game, I want the actions of my characters to have meaning and impact. This game offers neither of those things, regardless of anything you do, no matter how hard you try, everything you do is meaningless and everyone dies in the end and everything is miserable. Everything is on rails, you have no agency, and all you can do is pick of two equally awful endings in the last 5 minutes of the game.

I don't understand how anyone could consider that a good story.

I havent even looked at the story or touched the game but I can say with my full chest
You didnt get it

pedal stool

Now you're talking about something else. The characters dying, lack of agency, and the painted world "not mattering" are three separate concepts.

life isn't real
you die at the end
make it soon

Don't speak too harshly of OP, I think he just needed to express that he didn't like the story so he just used a bunch of words that he saw people use when they have problems with a story.

having a plot take place in a world with magic
and having a crucial plot point hinge on made up magic bullshit pseudoscience.. are 2 different things.
you're going to completely undermine your own plot on some absurd idiotic nonsense? that just makes you a joke? how am I supposed to take your slop seriously when you just make these hacky, contrived plot devices to magically arrive at an artificial dynamic without any work?

Yea, listen to Yoshi.
His teacher beat him for using the trope once.

file.png - 2013x823, 216.16K

A surface level understanding of American soft power and the inverse of "Western Civilization is collapsing!"

the world doesn't stop being real after you die you self absorbed retard.

JRPGs almost never have player choice like that. It tells a linear story, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

prove it ever started being real

I know, and all of those three things contribute to this game being the worst story released this year.

You enter a state of ethereal nothingness. It might as well for you; reality only matters in the context of your perspective and awareness of it.

t. drug fucked mentally ill skizto

I hole-hardedly agree, but allow me to play doubles advocate here for a moment. For all intensive purposes I think you are wrong. In an age where false morals are a diamond dozen, true virtues are a blessing in the skies. We often put our false morality on a petal stool like a bunch of pre-Madonnas, but you all seem to be taking something very valuable for granite. So I ask of you to mustard up all the strength you can because it is a doggy dog world out there. Although there is some merit to what you are saying it seems like you have a huge ship on your shoulder. In your argument you seem to throw everything in but the kids Nsync, and even though you are having a feel day with this I am here to bring you back into reality. I have a sick sense when it comes to these types of things. It is almost spooky, because I cannot turn a blonde eye to these glaring flaws in your rhetoric. I have zero taller ants when it comes to people spouting out hate in the name of moral righteousness. You just need to remember what comes around is all around, and when supply and command fails you will be the first to go. Make my words, when you get down to brass stacks it doesn't take rocket appliances to get two birds stoned at once. It's clear who makes the pants in this relationship, and sometimes you just have to swallow your prize and accept the facts. You might have to come to this conclusion through denial and error but I swear on my mother's mating name that when you put the petal to the medal you will pass with flying carpets like it’s a peach of cake.

Now you're just seething and shitting your diaper. A story is not bad because it's not CYOA shit.

The writing isn't bad but it's kinda average
The dialogues can be pretty bad, half of the party is almost irrelevant despite their screentime and the game does a poor job at making you care about the Dessendre family

It is in a role playing game. If I can't affect the story, then I can't truly define my character, and I'm not playing a role, I'm reading a book.

you don't live forever so it's ok if my story has shit writing.

Nice argument.
try that in court too.

look you're honor we're all going to die one day so it doesn't matter that I touched that kid.

212467.png - 169x171, 28.39K

It makes it a shit story in a roleplaying game. Had they clearly labeled it a visual novel I would have no complaints about the lack of agency (although even VNs have usually more choice than E33)

how am I supposed to take your slop seriously when you just make these hacky, contrived plot devices to magically arrive at an artificial dynamic without any work?

You were offended by the story's deliberate and purposeful conclusions. You're just using buzzwords to numb away the pain. It's okay sweetie.

You are an illiterate retard if that's what you got from that post.

Tell that to Husserl.

Ok, it's not an RPG. Now what? It's a good game again?

Fuck off retards.

"deliberate and purposeful conclusions" that are hacky, gay shit constantly being used by bad writers.

Then it's just a visual novel with a garbage story. What a massive improvement.

You haven't even defined what "real" is where contained universes are concerned. Who the fuck are you to decide what matters and what doesn't? Yet you call others self-centred for questioning your morals, weird

all movies are garbage because I can't control the outcome

yes

There is no explaining it because box worlds and realities are bullshit. they do not exist or make logical sense.

I listened to a brilliant astrophysicist the other day who claimed the opposite

Comments like this are why I'm glad that I read plot synopses before playing a game.

to numb away the pain

Why would I play video games to be in pain? That doesn't sound very entertaining to me.

The most retarded thing about act 2 and trying to restore Lune and Sciel to relevancy is having them throw one liners at the Axons and participate in the killing shot. That's done exclusively because they have nothing further to contribute, so the game throws off these scenes just so you think they're still in any way shape or form important (when they aren't).

It's a game that only appeals to midwits that think they're smarter than they actually are. See I unironically hate tournament arcs in anime because it's so overused to show off character's new powers. Tournament arcs are already long and then they bog it down even more by explaining main character's abilities. Show the character's learning that shit before the tournament, so the pacing isn't so shit.

That wasn't stated or even implied.

i wanna sniff her rice chute

The expedition that got the furthest and faced the painter was the 60-year-olds who got really buff and went in naked. They wanted to send one back to tell Lumiere about Renoir's true intentions, and he only lost because he was gommaged.

Umineko does it well by telling you that it actually matters

-Why can she make paintings immortal but not herself. Why can she be killed and ejected from the canvas?

She was immortal but another painter can gommage her when weak enough I guess?

-Why can't you just pull someone out of a canvas from the real world to begin with? literally what's stopping you?

Unclear. It seems once your soul or whatever is in there, you stay in there? Alicia could move the painting while Aline and Renoir were in there without them disconnecting. So it seems you can't really pull someone out. They're just in some sort of suspended animation.

the best solution is to start genociding everyone in the hopes they leave? that's so stupid and contrived.

I mean, that was Renoir's solution after being locked up beneath the monolith while he imprisoned Aline at the top.

Nice deflection but if you're going to be getting into discussions about the nature of reality - which you are, by claiming one reality doesn't matter because you say so - then you have to have a definition of reality, and an argument for why the experiences of everyone in one of them don't matter.

they lack the emotional depth and creativity to understand anything beyond the most basic of interactions, hence why their fiction mirrors this and they copy everything others have made.

Fromgods win again

The story is actually the opposite of pretentious. It's actually very simple and straightforward.

The one reality that matters is the one that can kill the other!
Survival of the fittest, man! If a human can erase the canvas, that means painted people are weaker, worth less, and thus irrelevant ;)

Reminder a redditor wrote this story
Lol
Lmao

My argument: Clea says the painted people aren't don't have feelings nor are they alive or have a soul. And in this fucking house we stand Clea so I believe her.

wanting narrative to get in the way of gameplay

what an absolute retard. stick to books, you don't understand our medium

There is no explaining it because box worlds and realities are bullshit. they do not exist or make logical sense.

fucking kek

painted world doesn't matter because even in the context of the story it's insignificant making it far more insignificant to the reader than most other stories.
plus the mechanisms of how it's supposed to work are ridiculous and idiotic. when a story is a fucking stupid train-wreck it makes it matter even less.

try again, ESL kun

Nothing you said is true or even argued, you're just asserting dumb shit

fedora tippers said so!!!

you are literally too dumb to realise a story doesn't have to be real to meaningful, when you in fact, consume stories that are not real, yet they are meaningful to you

I Seeeee Youuuuuu
I Feeeeel Youuuuuuu
I Heaaaar Youuuuuuuu
I Sneeeeed Youuuuuuuuuu

did it ever occur to you the significance of having an expedition proficient at climbing is the reason you have all those dumbass footholds or nah

caring about the ending and broad plot points more than individual stories, emotions and characters in between the big points

110 IQ faggot for sure

Formerly Verso's

The painted world however is real. It may be a creation of painters but the world itself is real. So all your arguments fall flat because the very basis of which all your arguments stem from is wrong.

When was the last time you read a book outside of school?

Yeah, endings are a big deal for me and a bad ending ruins the entire story. Any tragic ending immediately drops my personal rating to a 0.

a story doesn't have to be real to meaningful, when you in fact, consume stories that are not real

people saying shit like this are all just coping.
This is disingenuous cope trying to deny the obvious fact that obfuscating the entire world and making it an insignificant speck, in a higher perspective & reality that you tacked on to the plot, doesn't diminish and undermine the story.
this is a lie. it undeniably does.

Do visual novels count?

Maelle is a Jesus figure

regains memories of her god hood and wants the sentient beings in this world to live their lives without fear

Last minute forces her brother to live a life she does not want to live

Ultimately they shit the bed with Maelle's ending just to do the standard French trope of everything is miserable and it made literally no sense in terms of Maelle/Alicia's character development

it's an escape from reality.
simulations and void worlds are listed under this trope too. it's all the same thing.

You are continuing to assert dumb shit based on absolutely nothing at all. Your opinion is stupid and wrong and it's a wonder how you operate in life at all, you dumb idiot insignificant retard.

Media illiterate cuck

the problem is you are operating on the assumption that the canvas world is entirely meaningless and insignificant, when it is all but to the important characters.

it is not a dream, but more like a simulation. who is to say the people in there aren't fully fledged? it goes into a bunch of "when does life start, what is sentience" type topics that are itself a bit outplayed, but at least that criticism gets the point, unlike you

Lune is clearly the leader of the expedition during act 2, even though she constantly defers to Verso for directions because their goals are aligned but he clearly has way better intel. She takes initiative when it comes updating the expedition journal, offering the curator the pieces of the axons, and prodding the barrier with the sword. Even if you think she's useless, it's clear Maelle and Sciel respect her and follow her lead, that's just the dynamic of the expedition 33 crew when the mission is still taking down the paintress.

the standard French trope of everything is miserable

Huh that's not a French trope

Any tragic ending immediately drops my personal rating to a 0.

Typical American needs his MC to fall in love with the big tiddy blonde and they ride into the sunset at the end of the story. You need to learn the superior taste of the French of flooding your country with shitskins and being depressed all the time because your wife stinks more than your cheese.

arguing with people who havent played the game and cant understand the cliffnotes

why hasnt a single shitposter actually played the game yet, where is the effort

Your opinion is retarded because you don't understand the concept of diminishing value.
the more universes you put in your story the less it matters and the stupider it becomes.

oh well, if tv tropes says so, there's no point thinking about it, is there

fucking hell

its almost like arguing with someone and them dropping, erm actually thats an appeal to authority fallacy, you are talking to an npc

mfw I don't play games I just read about them or look at youtube clips so I can make threads being contrarian on Anon Babble

where is the effort

And where is your effort? Nothing you shills have said has sold me on this game.

I'd rather play that Star Ocean game where everything turns out to be a simulation. That at least had some neat sci-fi shit.

Ultimately they shit the bed with Maelle's ending

Yeah, they did. Suddenly, the game started taking sides in this debate and that's bullshit.

I'm not a yank, I prefer the loli type and the French are flooding their own country with shitskins just fine.

Yeah I play video games to be entertained and I don't find tragic stories entertaining, just annoying. Tragedy is like a sudden insertion of NTR in a romance story, I don't find it enjoyable.

Most RPGs are carried by their characters

Bro I changed 1 word into another and now my plot trope is completely different and I'm immune to being called out for using the trope.

you can't be that stupid.

give me my dopamine shot holy shit!!

You just hate thinking. A good story will be happy for a reason, or sad for a reason. Stop behaving like a woman, read between the lines, stories can be more than flat tones

At this piont in our society ill take anything but youtube infotainment, tiktok, and pol. The amount of illiterate poltards who dont touch books or women is staggering.
I figure these encompasses the FF16, DS2, E33 haters, becuase the philosophical underpinnings are completely missed.

huge.png - 1220x608, 237.72K

You have multiple moments that foreshadow Verso. Did you not pay attention

In my opinion the Luminerians were all essentially dead the moment they expelled their original creator (Aline) from the painting, who as far as we can tell did not interfere with their lives. From then on it was basically over for them and Maele could not hope to recreate their society, and as we see she does not and even lives among them, which is insanely messed up.
Imagine your creator with power of life and death over everyone just hangs out with you, would you really feel free? She even resurrected Sciel's husband who didn't even die from the gomage. I think this is a crucial detail. death has no meaning any more in Lumiere and what is life without death? Maele ending is a total nightmare and makes no sense.

A sad story doesn't make me think, it makes me frustrated and annoyed. If I want to think, I'll play a puzzle or tactics game. A good story will be happy for a reason, and a bad story will be sad for a reason. If I want to involve myself in a story, I want to enjoy my time with it and sad stories are not fundamentally enjoyable.

there is a tangible, big difference between a dream and a full on simulation or something similar.

again, if anything, the canvas idea tackles other played out tropes like what it means to be human or sentient. what is the difference between an AI and a human etc.

that is an actual criticism. you don't even understand the thing you're citicising. im not surprised though, coming from someone who cites websites written by faggots as a source to verify your own "opinions" as if you weren't allowed to think freely and make up your mind.

you must be underage or a retarded american

Can't speak for DS2 but I'm really curious about what you think is philosophically interesting in E33 and FF16 lmao. They're both games I enjoy but their stories are absolutely nothing to write home about

mfw I don't even need to read or watch

mfw I just have to be contrarian

mfw I have no face

There are a rare few that are carried by it's world building. This game isn't one of them.

Lol midwit.

I liked FFX's "sudden insertion of tragedy". Half of the game is Tidus trying to make Yuna the best summoner ever. Then he finds out she has to die to be a good summoner. But then he grows some big ass balls kills Yunalesca, kills sin, kills his dad, and kills himself, just to save the girl he loves.

VNs are worse than even videogames

I guess the mantra of for those who come after was lost on retards like

The story is actually the opposite of pretentious. It's actually very simple and straightforward.

You can't expect people who just watched some streamer and chat instead of actually playing the game to have paid attention. I roll my eyes whenever anyone claims that the painted world isn't real (thus irrelevant) or that Maelle didn't perfectly revive everyone as they were when she had control of all the chroma in the canvas. Pic related is definitive proof that all the painted people in the epilogue retained their memories/personalities.

Painter guy gushing about love in the prologue promisses to include painting of Gustave and Sophie for next year's opera

Time skip after mass Gommage

Painter guy kept his promise, meaning he remembered something Maelle would not have known.

Maelle saved multiple civilizations of sentient beings with her decision to stay, it is definitively the good ending, even if Maelle/Alicia's motivations might not be purely selfless or heroic.

I liked FFX's "sudden insertion of tragedy".

I haven't played any final fantasies aside from a brief stint in FFXIV and I hated every moment of it, and I haven't bothered reading the plot synopsis either so I can't really confirm one way or another but your description does sound awful.

Why would I enjoy watching the character die without even getting the girl? So that she can go on and get fucked by some other dude? That's not romantic, that's fucking retarded.

The painted world is real but the writing does a very poor job at making it matter beyond the scope of the lore. Sciel and Lune fall into complete irrelevancy and the final dilemma is just Maëlle cope vs Verso's suicide, it does't even bring the people of Lumière into play
Quite clumsy

I feel like the biggest shortcoming of the game is not making Maelle/Alicia the controllable character in the camp during act 3, because that would have allowed a lot more interactions between her and Lune, Sciel, Monoco, and Esquie. It'd shed more light on how SHE feels about the world and what she believes she can do to help.

not from a writing perspective.
how retarded do you think people are? it's so obvious it's the same trope.
you change 1 detail of your rugpull and think it's now so unique and you've gotten away with it?

This is like a 2 year olds level of intelligence not realizing adults see through you.

Did literally the same story with Excrement 33

Got hated by an entire console generation

huh????

read a book!

I read every day and I'm primarily a Anon Babble guy and the story in this game is just terrible
The end of act 2 revelation is so bad it made me quit the game. I'm trying to force myself to finish it, but I just can't

the canvas is functionally like another planet, not a mere figment of imagination. you don't get it

It's implied they fuck when he learns about her having to die. He comes back to life somehow in the the sequel that I haven't played.

It's still romantic. He hates his dad. She loves her dad and his dad. He learns from her that his dad stopped being an alcoholic piece of shit, after he came to the real world. Eventually she helps him get over his daddy issues. She also keeps herself at a distant somewhat because she knows she'll have to die and doesn't want him to fall in love with her only to have his heart broken.

So that she can go on and get fucked by some other dude?

Major part of the story is the MC stopping a mixed raced mutt from fucking her. You have to kill the son of a bitch like 4 times.

They even drop the ball with Maelle, so suddenly gets painted as a total asshole for no reason. She kept making very understandable points. And then the game goes "nope, she never cared about the painted people and her disability in the real world was never an issue, it was always about Verso". And that shit was just disingenious as fuck. I guess the game didn't have a rebuttal, so it ignored her arguments in order to have a theme going.

Titus was arguably "real" too until he wasn't.
Everyone in links awakening were also arguably sentient.. until they weren't.
most of the time this trope is done you can argue the people of the dream world/book/simulation/void/snowglobe/mental world were "sentient"
it doesn't make the trope any less shit.

Get information and then leave journals in a place further on than that information would have mattered! Real useful!

There is no explaining it because box worlds and realities are bullshit. they do not exist or make logical sense.

By that logic should I deduce that you hate fiction in any form ?

in a dream, illusion or hallucination, everything is just "you". not the case with this

made me quit the game.

Therefore you didn't play the game because you didn't not fully experience it, so you can't criticize it. Ipso Facto concordantly visa vis I accept your concession.

You have to eat the whole plate of shit before you complain to the chef.

And your axe-wound isn't functionally like another vagina, a mere figment of imagination. Sex, you don't get it.

Nta. It's meaningless because everyone died at the end of act 2 and the 60 years before the game probably sealed their fate anyway. Maelle could just recreate the people in her own canvas at that point. You can argue about that but I'm in the corner of the lune and sciel repainted by maelle aren't the lune and sciel that got gommaged. They are just recreations even if the originals mattered by the sake of the life they lived. It's like saying that an llm trained on the chatmsg of a dead friend is the same as the person. And at that point it's disrespecting them as people, because you think a recreation is the same just because they look and act similar. I think that isn't the case here no matter how godlike a painters power might be because they suddenly take a backseat to maelle.

it was also lost on the game itself considering it dropped that plotline in favor of meta bullshit.

you didn't eat the entire shit sandwich so you cant say it tasted bad

ishigidiggy

It'd shed more light on how SHE feels about the world and what she believes she can do to help.

Damn, imagine Alicia offering to restore Noco's memories or to tweak the Gestral reincarnation cycle after all is done so that it's a perfect reincarnation. What a fucking profound conversation that'd be.

noooo you can't point out the obvious faults with my reddit argument!!!

E33 is Hegels development of Spirit as a continuous process of self-realization. The ones that come are intrical and meaningful to the ones that come after, just like the kino Attack on Titan calvary charge speech.
"history appears as an altar on which individuals and entire nations are immolated; we see all that is noblest and finest destroyed'.
They also throw in existential and stoic ideas on how to handle loss.
FF16 I saw as rebuttle to Schopenhauer. The main character transcending the personal will to find strength in others. The main antagonist is the embodiment of logos.
Japan and France both have a lot of philosophy in their media. Japan as they literally experienced the death of a god (the emperor), and France becuase of being the post war continental powerhouse.

Lol

I'm not convinced, I would prefer it if he didn't die and got the girl.

Major part of the story is the MC stopping a mixed raced mutt from fucking her. You have to kill the son of a bitch like 4 times.

That's based, but what happens after he's gone? Even if he managed to impregnate her, she's going to have to raise the kid on her own and he's not going to be able to enjoy watching his child grow.

It would be a complete, romantic story if he came back through her efforts after he successfully made her "the best summoner", but as a standalone story the way you describe it I'm sorry to say that it's pretty ass tier.

What makes Maelle/Alicia an asshole? Refusing to let Verso die?

This was my first Star Ocean given to me by a friend for free. I guess it made him so mad he never wanted replay or even finish it lol.

it's FFX

Speaking of the death of God, forgot how in FF16 they search for meaning after learning their horrific teleology. So literal existentialism.

everything is just "you". not the case with this

so then prove that everything isn't just versos soul that remains in the painting?
remove that thing the whole canvas evaporates. in case you didn't notice that thing is functionally the same as the dreaming faiths in FFX.

Further more there are lots of fake worlds under this trope where things aren't just dreams. but the trope is shit all the same.

Yeah, pretty much. The game goes too hard saying "see? she's an unreasonable junkie like her mother", even though Alicia wasn't particularly unreasonable, just increasingly desperate because Verso and Renoir kept ignoring her arguments.

Maelle could just recreate the people in her own canvas at that point

They wouldn't be the same people, they'd have different chroma. Yeah, Maelle could recreate a Gustave lookalike in another painting, but it wouldn't be her Gustave, he'd have none of his internal thoughts, aspirations, dreams, and memories. See

Also, the fact that she can paint a new canvas doesn't really solve her issue of being very subceptible to lose herself in the canvas to begin with.

if he came back through her efforts

I looked it up it is. A summoner has to pray to the fayth(humans transformed into semi-immortal statues) to be allowed to summon beings to help them fight. A summoner a thousand years ago made thousands of statues together to create a bigass semi-immortal monster and to recreate a dream version of his city that was destroyed.

MC comes from the dream city and is therefore a dream himself. The Fayth are tired of dreaming of a whole ass city with millions of ppl and wish to stop(not necessarily die) in the first game. That's why MC technically dies at the end. MCs love interest prays to the Fayth in the end of the second game to bring him back.

Then I'll give your story my seal of approval.

Yeah, Maelle could recreate a Gustave lookalike in another painting, but it wouldn't be her Gustave, he'd have none of his internal thoughts, aspirations, dreams, and memories.

Maelle herself disprove this, when she suddenly gain Alicia's memory, Lune commented that "she's still our Maelle". So if Maelle wanted to, she can recreate her Gustave by manipulating his life event to get the same outcome. But she didn't because she's a retard and the writing team wanted to keep their mustache Aerith dead.

mallee.jpg - 1024x576, 132.6K

You'd find philosophers in every single story since they both talk about ideas.
E33's approach to loss is pretty bland, it just tell you to move on, a shrink would tell you as much over a 3 minutes zoom call. Self-realization being tied to your predecessors is plain obvious and I don't think they're linked in any way to Hegel. In France there is a saying that middle and high school teachers love a lot "we are dwarves standing on the shoulders of giants" that's what the expedition system embodies

FF16 I saw as rebuttle to Schopenhauer. The main character transcending the personal will to find strength in others

I don't think that's unique to FF16, it's a jrpg trope at this point. What I found refreshing about FF16 is the importance of family, there are very few japanese games that value family as much as FF16 beyond the fuckable imouto. Clive's reunion with his uncle was moving.

NOOOOOO YOU CAN'T KILL MY SISTER... SHE SHOULD'VE DIED BY MY HANDS! I SHOULD'VE BEEN THE ONE TO KILL HER, NOT GIVING HER A CHANCE TO TALK ME OUT OF THIS

What a psychopath

-alternate universes
-reality break rugpull
-characters being brought back to life

they just needed
-time travel / timelines
and it would be in with the mostly certifiably garbage slop ever written.

So if Maelle wanted to, she can recreate her Gustave by manipulating his life event to get the same outcome.

The game actually explains that why she couldn't just recreate Gustave at the snap of the finger - Renoir was hogging all the chroma, while Alicia was left with scraps. That's why her "army" during the ending consists of fleeting expeditioner "ghosts", not actual living expeditioners.

He's already long dead and the "picture" of him still left is uphold by the fragment of his soul that tears itself apart over keeping the canvas running. She tortures everyone by refusing to accept the loss. Be it verso, gustave or sciel and lune. They are all dead. And instead of accepting that she makes little puppets that look like them because she can't take the truth.

Kek you've got to be on some ascendant plane of hyper-retardation if the simple fact that climbers expedition went there to install climbing equipment for the following expeditions went over your head.

The original FF music in the background with the uncle was top notch. To me FF16 was carried by it's amazing story. The first 15% was my dream FF but after melee got nerfed by the second eikon, I just found it to be a boring timer countdown. My GOTY but it was flawed.

You didn't play the game, dumbfuck. Alicia needs person's chroma to bring back that person. She could only bring Lune and Sciel back because she could take their chroma from the place they were gommaged at. Different chroma = different people. That's all there's to it.

people still can't figure out if Sophie was 33 or 34 after completing the game.

most games, especially JRPGs and CRPGs, have dogshit stories written by theatre kids types

Self-realization being tied to your predecessors is plain obvious and I don't think they're linked in any way to Hegel.

Kek, Obama said this after Romneys 42% speech and immediately got attacked as a communist on Fox.

Maelle herself disprove this, when she suddenly gain Alicia's memory

Lune and Sciel's chroma was literally right there in her vicinity. It took great effort on her part to grab their Chroma and revive them before their chroma was completely dispersed and taken under Renoir's control. Gustave was long dead, so his chroma was already spread too thin for Maelle to revive him with her limited painter skills, because that'd require a tug of war with her dad that she has no chance of winning. It isn't until both Aline and Renoir are out of the canvas that Alicia has full control of all the Chroma and can sift through it to revive people. The game is pretty vague about what qualifies as a "strong" painter, but control over chroma seems to be a large part of if, and whoever has control of the chroma can do whatever they want with it. The moment Clea, Aline, or Renoir enter the painting, they'd probably be able to wrest control of the canvas from her without breaking a sweat, because she's so weak.

let me guess, you like muramasa and other midwit VNs, or moege for escapism

Conveniently the scraps she has are just enough to rebuild her playable party (but no one else, and specially not her oni-chan)

written by theatre kids types

In japan RPG stories are usually written by senile Japanese incels who have no understanding of human behaviour, have barely interacted with women and suffer from severe anime brainrot.

Honestly if you're reading tvtropes and taking it as gospel you're probably a retard so whatever. Believe what you want to believe.

Canvas world is as real as painter's world, retardo. A world with an active demiurge doesn't automatically become fake. Midwits just see a canvas and think it's created therefore not real, you are like pavlov's dog just reacting to stimuli with no deeper thought. You retards wouldn't apply the same standard to gorillion fantasy works with creation myth and living gods.

Also: Gustave was killed by painted Renoir and not by a Nevron. Means his chroma most likely didn't stay in his body.

She only managed to grab Lune's and Sciel's chroma, because it was right in front of her. She couldn't bring back Gustave, because his chroma was probably on the other side of the continent right now. And Renoir was sitting on it.
This doesn't mean she won't be able to bring Gustave back after Renoir is dealt with.

Yeah, we sent the climbing expedition out, but they didn't win.

How can you miss the point so hard?

lune.png - 765x531, 538.04K

that smug paintress look

She's not even consoling Verso there.

Canvas world is as real as painter's world

In the real world they can't even fix a girl being half burnt and mute. In the canvas they can ressurrect people with little effort. They can be killed and thus kicked out of the canvas and come back later.
It's a MMO populated by NPCs, it's not a living world.

Why would you need a specific expedition just for climbing? Any expedition could do that and help those that came after?
What if all the climbing expedition people died really early and failed? They just assume it worked out fine for them and went, "welp, we can move on to the next thing now, since obviously that worked out". Devolving them into one trait makes no sense and comes off like joke tier writing.

AHHH I HATE TV TROPES because they...

just collect examples of writing tropes and list them

I imagine how that could be inconvenient for you when defending a game that uses one of the worst ones.
but you're really mad because people can see how uncreative and similar all these plots are.

yeah, let's not send everything we have at the paintress to try to save the world, let's just send a bunch of people who like to climb. Don't worry, the next guys will do it.
Oh, wait, those are the Banjo guys? ...Uh, maybe in a few more years, sorry everybody else.

if your main plot point hedges on made up string theory bullshit about the established fabric of reality. then yeah your writing is ass.

There is no explaining it because box worlds and realities are bullshit. they do not exist or make logical sense.

You sound like an arrogant 15 year old teenager who thinks he is smarter than everyone. I am sorry, bringing up string theory out of nowhere won't make you sound clever. You are just outing yourself as a stupid teenager who watches to much popsci youtube.

it's amazing how many people think saying this is a genius defense of how bad the writing is.

SAAR

The entire idea of specialized expeditions is retarded. People who expedition are usually the ones who have one year left bar some exceptions who are heavily emphasized as something out of the ordinary (like Maelle's).
So you're telling me you had all or most climbers of Lumiere be around the same age to form a climbing expedition? And that their brilliant plan to help with the collective effort to defeat the Paintress was going into random ass wild places and set up gear so that maybe helps someone going through these specific locations in order to defeat the Paintress, including Esquie cave and the like?

literally not the same thing. That's like saying all isekai anime don't matter just because a god created another world and gave powers to some random person from the real world.
The ending of the game is literally the end of a isekai light novel: do you want to stay in this fantasy world with your harem or go back to wageslaving?

No insult you throw at me will make the canvas world real, Maelle. Listen to your sister and your father.

That's like saying all isekai anime don't matter

correct because they're trash.

She was 33, Maelle fucking says it at the start. The gommage is a hard cutoff, meaning that someone who turned 33 the night before the gommage would die, but someone who turns 33 the day after would be spared. Maelle says Gustave is the oldest person in Lumiere, so he's probably one of those few lucky people who miss getting gommaged by a cunt hair and his birthday would have come up early in the expedition.

the ones whos obsessed with philosophy are the true midwits
said by carl jung i guess

29 of February CHADS beating the Gommage efortlessly

Why would you need a specific expedition just for climbing?

Are you retards unironically taking the "climbing expedition" joke literally? Here is the the actual journal. It was a multi-team recon expedition that covered maps, trails and climbing paths. Expedition 69 had thousands of members and judging on their goals, they likely recruited individuals 2-3 years before their gommage and worked side-by-side with concurrent expeditions that actually had non-recon work This is not explicitly stated, but just use your fucking brain.

average versofag

Why would you need a specific expedition just for climbing? Any expedition could do that

The entire idea of specialized expeditions is retarded.

You've got to be very young and inexperienced to believe that. A highly specialized task requires a highly specialized team to achieve it. Real world has specialities like hyperbaric welding or industrial climbers. Nobody just gives a welder a diving suit and asks him to weld underwater. And nobody gives a janitor a climbing equipment and asks him to clean skyscraper windows.
If you were to just give random expeditioners climbing equipment they would shit the bed. That's how real world works.
So yes, it makes perfect sense they trained highly specialized climbers expedition to set up as much climbing spots in as much places as they could reach.

That’s a very dishonest assessment of FFX plot to force a parallel to E33

Clea is a character in the game, is the best painter of the three children, and that's her attittude towards p*inted people

Nah he has a point.
Why doesn't Gustave question what the fuck Maelle meant when she called him a cartesian engineer? Descartes does not exist in Lumiere by the simple fact that Descartes was not of Paris.
What was the point of getting mad at Verso not revealing that Renoir was his dad? He already established a personal connection by saying the guy is his expedition commander and that they have very differing points of view regarding their immortality. If Clea can paint over other people's paintings then why didn't she just override her painted version to be able to paint over Lumerians toward Renoir's side? That would deprive Aline of chroma much faster than the whole nevron corruption thing, specially if she fashions it like a chroma converting zombie virus. If Clea is the most talented painter (or at least the most talented among the kids) and she praised where the portrait was hidden, how did Aline find it so quickly?
So much shit just don't add up cap'n.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as Pianoman by My Yandere Imouto and Want to Kill Myself

Clea is the only one who disagrees, Renoir apologizes for the suffering the people in the painting have to endure, but it's what must be done etc. etc.
You can think the Verso ending is the best without being dishonest about it.

yeah, "it was all a dream" in any way, shape or form is ALWAYS an godawful twist

it's not a dream, it's a isekai world

Also if the objective of the nevrons is to tip the scale towards Renoir by absoring chroma, why do they never attack Lumiere, where there's a bunch of people and thus chroma? Why is Lumiere safe? Everywhere else is extremely dangerous no humans anywhere in sight.

I am going to make a post to declare that I am a mentally retarded subhuman animal

Hey ok, you do you

And Aline is the strongest painter and she didn't imprint that on her kids while personally teaching them. There's enough evidence to make best painters doubt whether canvas worlds are real or fake. Clea is a cold bitch and her opinions stems from her character. Not from hard evidence.

can't even shit out any criticism for the story so she just cries about it being "pretentious" and "inconsistent"

That's how you know the game is good

Unlike those other questions, that one's actually explained. There's a protective barrier over Lumiere. When Gustave leaves for the expedition he tells his lads to take care of the dome.

Nigger that has nothing to do with being young. The task the expeditions were leaving to perform was killing the ominous Goddess in the distance evaporating people. Setting up grappling hooks in a random ass caverns in distant isles is hardly the specialized task the expeditions are leaving to attempt to complete.

It's not bad if you ignore the subversio nof expectation and are able to forget act 1-2 happened

I really love the soundtrack but most songs spoil the already obvious plot twist.
youtube.com/watch?v=vGVeDm4118Q

Get out and run away, I beg you

Run away from this cursed painting

This canvas of a false life

This is the best song ever specifically written for a video game, btw.

There's a dome? Why don't they make domes anywhere else? Why don't they carry this magic of the domes to protect them from nevrons? Is anything else spoken about this dome?

reads to me like they are literally just a recon expedition and you're coping. it's stupid. again, what if they all die at the beginning?
they should be all well trained and have high standards because otherwise literally everyone is going to fucking die. they should be training people in plenty of these things.

it's bad because tvtropes said so

DERE MUST BE DA REEL SHIT BRUH NO REEL SHIET NO MUH SHIET NIGGA LOOK AT MUH MARVEL BRUH

The average IQ in America excluding Indians, Jews, and Asians is like 70 points. What do you want from these "people"? Comprehending art? In no way.

this is explained at the start retard, lumiere is protected

Is anything else spoken about this dome?

Just that they're thankful that Lumiere got shat out into the ocean because it gave them time to put up a protective dome.

The task the expeditions were leaving to perform was killing the ominous Goddess in the distance evaporating people.

Setting up grappling hooks in a random ass caverns in distant isles is hardly the specialized task the expeditions are leaving to attempt to complete.

"Some of you are leaving to change the world. Others to discover the secrets of our universe. Some to protect loved ones. Others to find meaing in our all too short lives."

One of the things I didn't consider before your post is that a lot of the earlier expeditions would be staffed with fit and hopeful youngsters rather than geriatric old men on the verge of gommage, meaning that a single expedition could last multiple years until its stated goal is realized or it gets wiped. It makes the fate of Expedition 60 even more tragic, because apparently they chose to send the oldest (and logically the weakest) guy on the gigachad expedition away with immensely important info about the state of the world, but he croaked to the gommage before he could deliver it. Had they sent a younger guy instead, the message would have likely gotten delivered, though their fighting potential would have been lower. They must have been really confident that they could kick Renoir's ass.

There can be no compromise. Aline is the best painter out there who taught everyone else in the family how it works and how you should protect yourself. And even she is killing herself by staying in the painting, it was obvious that Maelle would follow the same path if she stayed.

And for Verso, he already died once saving her sister. He will do it again. He was tired of painting and people keeping the charade going on.

CO fanboys are dangerously close to become the new ff faggots retarded cultists

You did not play the game. Either that, or you're a media illiterate retard.

For those who come after

That's the entire motto of expeditioners, and what Gustave told you many times. The climbers' entire point was to set up climbing spots for expeditions that come after them.
Every single expedition is a suicide mission in a multi-generational collective effort to defeat the paintress. The fact that you use their grappling points all throughout the game shows that they succeeded in their mission.

Dude, it's the first good Western game we've had in what, 10 years? Let people celebrate, lose themselves, and have fun.

consider OP hasn't even played the game judging from the image, yeah.

You aren't addressing anyone, or saying anything insightful that begs discussion. You just dropped your pants and started shitting on the spot. I guess that passes for normal where you're from.

Nigger that has nothing to do with being young.

You don't need to be so upset. You simply lack information on how similar tasks in the real world are performed. It's okay to be inexperienced and not not things. However, you should learn instead of chimping out like an animal.

The task the expeditions were leaving to perform was killing the ominous Goddess in the distance evaporating people.

What should I you even say to that? The game explicitly tells you some expeditions were reckon and laid the trail for next expeditions. You are just throwing tantrum at this point.
And you should keep in mind the number was 69 and only very few and old people died. It makes perfect sense to sacrifice couple hundreds of geezers to vastly increase chances for next expeditions.

Setting up grappling hooks in a random ass caverns in distant isles is hardly the specialized task

You have no idea how hard it is to climb unfamiliar terrain and build trails for people who are not professional climbers. You are just a dismissive arrogant brat.

It's amazing how people misinterpret writing and think their incorrect opinions matter. You may criticize it as much as you want, but get your facts straight first, otherwise your take is worthless.

Y-you did play de gaem!

Said the one that havent finish act 3 yet

kekkus maximus
If you beat the game, lorelet, you will see that Alicia/Maelle can do that after Aline and Renoir are out and you choose her ending.

The conversation was about bringing people back in another painting, ADHD dumbfuck. When Alicia got control over all chroma in canvas, she could bring back others. The same doesn't apply to another canvas with different chroma.

moving goalpost

refuse to address Alicia/Maelle's situation and Lune's comment

I accept your concession, lorelet

moving goalpost

The goalpost was bringing back people in another canvas from the start. I interpret your seething as admission of defeat.

What ships they had were destroyed by a mix of Renoir and the Blanches that were occupying the beach.
Their only hope to get back by sea would be Esquie, who 1) did not have his swimming rock when you meet him and 2) couldn't break through the coral formations in the waters between Lumiere and the continent.
By the time you have the rocks necessary to both swim and break through corals Gustave was already dead, Verso and Monoco got added to the party, and the curator has the means of making a barrier piercing weapon.
So instead of going back home guess what the party does? They fucking push forward with the mission.

yeah bro, narnia is just a dream. the world doesn't exist. just destroy the wardrobe (canvas), it's all a dream.

Narnia is probably the worst out of the fantasy worlds if only because your physical state gets reverted to what it was before you entered yet you retain your memories.

Isn't the wardrobe just a portal tho

yes?

Maelle herself disprove this, when she suddenly gain Alicia's memory

not even close to the same circumstances lmao

Redditor wrote this story

It makes sense why it's rent free inside Anon Babble's head...

It wasn't written by a Redditor that's why. Anon BabbleGamingCircleJerk doesn't even know about StarOcean because no redditor went by "I wrote this" for karma

If you couldn't predict the twist long before that then you are genuinely slow.

Predicting it and witnessing it are two different things

never played the game, some plot in 3 lines or less?

frfr i got you my fellow alphie: www.tiktok.com

Why does Maelle have the skimpiest swimsuit

You forgot:

closet weeb manchild who larps as superior for not liking japanese media

Nah he has a point

proceeds to show he didn't understand 10 different parts of the story

Maelle calls him a Cartesian engineer because that's the Lumieran name for it. They inherited tons of stuff from IRL France because they are copies of IRL Parisians, their Eifell Tower is still named Eiffel Tower, for example

The point of the drama was that Verso lied and tricked the group. Not a cool thing in a life-or-death situation

Lumiere has a Dome/barrier around it kind of like the Paintress' that prevents anything that isn't Aline's creations from getting through. It's why the city wasn't destroyed by Nevrons.

We know fuck all about how much time passed in the real world, and Renoir outright states they had little time before Aline found the canvas again. Dunno about you, but when my family tried to hide things from me as a kid, I usually had an idea where all the possible hiding spots were in my house. It would take some trial and error but I'd eventually find what I was looking for.

It's a chroma barrier, not a physical dome. And presumably not mobile.

ITT:

Wah Wah this plot doesnt make sense because

bunch of nonsense that shows they weren't paying attention/didn't play the game

Never change Anon Babble

NPCs joke about you being disappointed to receive male swimsuits

they kept Maelle until late game and gave her the skimpiest

why indeed.

if Lumiere isn't real does that mean that this thread and every argument isn't real as well?

Maelle calls him a Cartesian engineer because that's the Lumieran name for it. They inherited tons of stuff from IRL France because they are copies of IRL Parisians

And they don't question it, these people that literally have historians (Gustave and the bald dude being the foremost expedition historians as an example)? They don't wonder where the fuck they picked up the term? At all?

Lumiere has a Dome/barrier around it kind of like the Paintress' that prevents anything that isn't Aline's creations from getting through. It's why the city wasn't destroyed by Nevrons.

But that's bullshit because neither Esquie nor Monoco were made by Aline and they got in to celebrate with everyone before all of Aline's creations outside of her immortal family got gommaged.

I play RPGs mainly for the plot

Buddy they acknowledge that they lost most of their history during the Fracture. If they do question it, there's an obvious explanation for why they don't know

But that's bullshit because neither Esquie nor Monoco were made by Aline and they got in to celebrate with everyone before all of Aline's creations outside of her immortal family got gommaged.

True, I guess it lets Verso's creations in as well. All we're explicitly told is that the Dome keeps the Nevrons (Clea's creations) out. So there's your explanation for why she doesn't wipe Lumiere out. If it wasn't for the Dome, she already would have.

every world has a creator, including ours.

Posting here is a turn based rpg

you larp as shill or hater of topic

post whatever

wait a minute

other posters larp as well

it's now your turn and you can use skills like "ragebait" or "goalpost move" or even items like mobile device for multiple posting getting an extra turn per round.

What's our plot then? are we not real?

So there's your explanation for why she doesn't wipe Lumiere out. If it wasn't for the Dome, she already would have.

Except they wouldn't be Clea's creations. They'd still be Aline's creations, just with Clea overhauling them. There isn't a single bit of lore that suggests anything painted over by Clea wouldn't be allowed in, just shit she created herself.

I thought Lune's was the skimpiest?

It becomes clear early on that the world is some kind of mental manifestation which revolves around this mysterious family. The end of act 2 cannot even be described as a “twist” as it just fills in some details. I loved the game, and my dissapointment that it was not some hard fantasy story with deep lore and instead was something more metaphorical came and went before the end of act 1. If this experience wasnt the case for you, or you “quit the game” after act 2 because of the information you learn there, its because youre a genuinely dumb person.

Yeah, by the time you hit the mansion for the first time, it should be pretty obvious to you that this world is metaphorical.
Because who built it, why and why is seems to be warping reality itself?

Outside of a few cutscenes before or after a boss fight, it’s like the characters forget each other exists. All the charm and dynamics I loved in Act I are just… gone.

You literally get dozens of scenes of the characters interacting, including a full dialogue tree to establish a relationship between the new character and the rest of the team. The game went way above-and-beyond to establish the relationship you are complaining about.

And you got KTFO (Knocked the fuck out) pussy

not using spoiler tags

...or you just spam reply meds and schizo to everything for a decade because the jannies refuse to filter those words for some reason (probably because they use them the most). It's extremely boring I don't know how people are here all day 24/7.

im a boomer so haent played minecraft so make a version of this thats boomer friendly

The entire gimmick of the game, the clock that counts down killing everyone, had the dumbest explanation of all time.

it's actually a warning and she isn't the one doing it

it's actually some convoluted method of preventing chroma from returning to Alyssa

By that point in the game, the gimmick was long forgotten anyway, and they just kind of handwave it away with a shitty explanation.

A sad story doesn't make me think

lol

why do you even bother trying to consume art when you clearly have the emotional range of a rock? stick to your puzzle games, rain man.

these are the same people who finish jrpg by spamming a single skill

minecraft is older than you dumb nigger

source?

Makes sense I see it the most in threads for braindead JRPGs like Xenoblade

just wait until you discover the reddit-posting expedition!

So yeah there's this protective shield around our town that protects us from the power that killed everyone else on the continent

WAAAAH GAME PLEASE EXPLAIN HOW ALL THE MAGIC WORKS. HAVE CHARACTERS GIVE EXPOSITION THAT COVERS ALL HYPOTHETICAL SCENARIOS. IF THE MAGICAL WORLD DOESN'T WORK THROUGH MAGICAL SCIENCE THAT IS EXPLICITELY EXPLAINED TO ME IT'S A PLOT HOLE

can't search, needs help

s.jpg - 3000x1846, 548.63K

What started as an intriguing, character-driven expedition devolved into a rushed, undercooked multiverse plotline full of wasted potential.

le character driven means le good!

The start of this game and really the entire 1st act is as plot-driven as writing gets.

Verso and Alicia's introduction is what causes character motivations to actually start affecting the plot and narrative in big ways.

You dummies keep trying to sound smart by regurgitating nonsense because you didn't like the twists. Just end up sounding retarded

I think the writing definitely fell apart with "le epic twists". If the story was more straightforward, it would have been better.

twists doesn't mean the story isn't extremely straightforward

post hand

Good twists are a narrative device before shock value, which is the case here. Not every twist is trying to be "le heckin epic gotcha!" moment.

I think
The paintress should have remained the main villain. Give her some motive for erasing humanity. Maybe it's because she's jaded and bored of humans. Maybe she fears the rise of another with powers like hers.
But the way the story went devalued the characters. Also the explanation we got for the countdown-timer was the dumbest in history.

I think the twist in this game is unusual because it takes a large spanning narrative and puts it into a small family's struggles, usually a twist will expand out to be bigger than what things initially seemed but the twist of the canvas almost does the opposite. I don't mind this because it made the thematics more personal to the characters and thus easier to relate to. I don't need a big epic adventure to feel connected to something and in some cases that can actually be alienating. I think they did something different and it works for what it is.

Yup. If you didn't have at least half the twist figured out by the time you meet the Paintress, you just haven't been paying attention

that sounds incredibly fucking bad anon
the entire point of the story is that there's no singular villain, just tragic circumstances leading to unresolvable conflicts. It is straightforward in the sense that the enemy wasn't just the paintress but also the curator (very classic "garland was actually chaos" final fantasy twist and very much expected in this genre). This is strongly hinted at throughout the game with the duality theme, from the red and white tree (that symbolizes the conflict between the two gods from the beginning of the game) to enemies like clair obscur and abberations that are made of two halves incapable of rejoining.

the tranny defense force defending this slops absolute shit story are genuinely schizophrenic and/or paid shills

Not having played it (I never will), but having read a lot about the plot, I genuinely can't believe so many people think the plot is deep, worthwhile, and unpretentious.

What game has a good story?

It was revenge for Gustave, and a lot of other things. And there was nothing that we could do about it. Alicia was a real woman, and Painted Verso wasn't. And we had to sit still and take it. It was among the Painters. It was real greaseball shit. They even burned Alicia in the face so her mother couldn't give her an open coffin at the funeral.

How many buzzwords can you fit in one sentence

xenoblade 2 shits on this dogshit tranny story

solid kek

MGS2
all of them are applicable here

TLOU1/2 unironically. Uncharted 2 and 4. Disco Elysium (obviously). Planescape Torment. etc.

man the endgame of this game doesn't have much of a sense of direction, as soon as you unlock flying you unlock a ton of locations but they all have very different threat levels. You also start unlocking new pictos and weapons hand over fist but once you get a sense of what's good and how to use it you start one shotting everything to the point where all those weapons and skills don't really feel helpful, it's weird.

Is NG+ harder ?

Yeah k have to agree with the other replies you really sounds to dumb to get it and not in the "le high iq" way just in the brain was fully developed kknd of way way.

there’s nothing to get, it’s a cringe try hard story, maybe you should read a book sometime sis

What's causing this backlash in Expedition 33? Are people just finally getting around to finishing it and seeing it for what it really is?

This game has a lot of love for it right now by people, but I have a feeling that it won't hold up well by the test of time.

What backlash its just people raging against something popular shit happens all the time

actual drooling retard

so is this game really the best rpg ever made? or is it fotm slop like I get the vibe that it is

lmfao you people hate on this game but praise pseudointellectual shit like xenogears? only on Anon Babble...

xeno.png - 1673x999, 1.69M

Is NG+ harder ?

harder to get motivated and start it yes

Even if you don't think it's real and your life stops mattering after you die, why make it worse for those around you? Go out AS IF other people mattered, don't be a malicious cunt.

The only try hard is retards like you shitting themselves because they can't understand the plot

Things mattering is entirely a personal choice everyone has to make (or not realise they're making) themselves
I think things matter, but it's a logically indefensible position to take since you have to start appealing to deities to explain why unless you just say 'because I said so therefore it is so'

I can understand it, I just don’t think it’s good.
Hope this helped!

it's perfectly logical and rational to say the things that bring you pleasure and/or fulfillment matter to you. I don't know why midwits always equate subjectivity to irrationality, but subjective value is as rational as it gets.

Cope as much as you want,
Hope you kys!

Says you

c-c-cope

projection

the point is just that, whether or not you think there are objective standards and values, there is still something that is rational for you to care about

See you even projected your gay ass stutter on to me literally the definition of cope!

It's not rational to pursue pleasure and fulfillment, or heroin addiction would suddenly be rational

heroin addiction is precisely the opposite of those two things anon, it destroys me and makes you miserable
I understand that you retards see red whenever the word "pleasure" gets thrown around because you instantly imagine pedophile orgies and rails of coke or whatever it is you brainbroken subhumans fantasize about, but pleasure and fulfillment in this context refers to much more mundane things, like the love of a community and the fulfillment of your role within it.

How come everyone hating this game didnt even play it and make low IQ takes on the story?

c-c-c-cooooopeeee!!1!!1

grim

Gamers have always had shit standards but used to be grounded enough to know a story was just good by vidya standards. 33fags betray their lack of culture by thinking this game is some kind of masterpiece that goes beyond the medium. It's cringe of the highest order.

Welcome to Anon Babble

storys

Saaaaar do the needful please and redeem the bait

when does it get good?
does the main faggot ever stop talking about how sad he is?
should I just refund it?

digger nicks.jpg - 820x359, 79.35K

What's a good game?

game gets popular on Anon Babble and beyond

anons (usually underage) get mad at this because they have the false belief that Anon Babble hates everything, especially things that get noticed by the mainstream

shitposting commences

Big brain anon cant think of anything else to say, pretty sure you actually didn't understand the story and it made you angy.

for probably minecraft or fortnite

Some games are good.

gudest gaems.png - 922x1474, 998.04K

it's actually a warning and she isn't the one doing it

Wrong.
You don't even understand the "gimmick" that you apparently hate so much. lol

i like the game but if it means one less cock sucker bitching in these threads do yourself and everyone a favour and refund it

This has to be bait no one is this stupid.

The first arc was good but then things take a bit of a tumble. Initially it was praised as a 10/10 but after progressing in the story it's clearly got a load of problems, so people are becoming contrarians.

dwarf fortress

it’s not difficult to understand, I can tell you thought it was very deep and original and that’s why you’re so desperate to defend such drivel

To my understanding, the Chinese government doesn't approve of proper moral ambiguity in media and as a result the population can't really deal with stories where there isn't a clearly good outcome.

It's done

frog shit.jpg - 593x192, 26.74K

plays for 30 fucking minutes

takes a screenshot just to shit his pants on Anon Babble

For the good of the rest of us yes, refund it and fuck off

Interesting that I asked when it gets good and not a single fanboy has been able to give me an answer.
