Another N64 game gets a recompile/PC port

(It's actually based on the arcade version but it's a game that also released on the N64)

Looks to be a big year for recomps. Post your dream ports and mods for said ports.

Whoops, forgot to put the game in the title, it's San Francisco Rush 2049

Only the shitty games from a shitty console nobody cares gets recompilations.

What game would you suggest get a recomp?

be the change you want to see in the world

The entire PS2 library, you know, the best console ever made.
Granted, not as easy as nintendie games because lack of proper code leaks, coupled with the hardware uniqueness of the PS2. But why stick so much with the N64? To me it seems like another case unwilling to let go of failures, just like the cult around the PS Vita.

Post your dream ports and mods for said ports.

smash 64
goldeneye
perfect dark
mario kart 64
diddy kong racing
for proper online

oot + all the 3ds models ported over for the definitive edition

pretty much all the first party games are desireable for recomps

Cool, so when do you start working on it?

t. Saturnfag

Anybody here played Hot Wheels Extreme Racing? It was kind of shitty but also very soul.

oot + all the 3ds models ported over for the definitive edition

I think model replacements for N64 games is still being worked on but isn't possible quite yet, but I imagine when they do get that working they could just subdivide the models from the 3DS and just upscale the textures and it would look great

San Francisco Rush

This game sucked ASSSSS

here's this game nobody fucking cares

cool, where's the *anything else* port though?

Why don't you do it?

Can't unsee the face on the car.

I'm not too autistic to pull it off

Then shut the fuck up.

Dream ports

Gran Turismo games
Scud Race
The Warriors
Sega Nascar

Someone's trying to remake all the Rush games (minus LA Rush, because that's not a real Rush game) in Unity.

I tried it but they don't have the physics down pat yet.

Nice of it to support 2049 SE.

why, what kind of dumb answer is that?

playing recomps

You didnt play game, they were designed for CRT and a controller. Not a LCD and a keyboard

CRT-LCD.jpg - 1024x388, 62.35K

mad?

it's an arcade game

You didnt read the bible, it was written to be read over multiple ancient monk scrolls, not a single hardcover book

How well does it play with a controller? Being a recompilation I imagine it's better tuned to handle outside of a steering wheel cabinet (emulated arcade racing games that rely on a steering wheel rarely work properly on a controller - sad when we're talking about stuff on the Model 3).

CRTards are insufferable

and a keyboard

and stupid

crtranny trying to justify its 500$ pvmeme

Isnt the N64 recomp shit at a standstill because the guy wants to finish universal mod support first?

that's a weak ass comeback. you got owned kiddo, just move on.

arcade game

:|

arcade game (was also released on [Nintendo console]

:OO

harkinian does it, they can replace actor models
one person replaced all the player/npc models and props with the 3ds ones
but they seemed to have given up on replacing the enemies/bosses
replacing the level geometry hasn't been done cause the harkinian people care more about stupid speedruns and randomizer shit

and there needs to be a music mod so I can hear this in hyrule field instead of the same midi from 1998

personally i want an omnibus of the most popular n64 games compiled into one file and you can just choose which game you want to play from a menu

it got you to click on the thread so i guess it worked

yes and now it works fairly well for majora so it should be able to proceed soon

I want ray tracing and stereoscopic 3d

or you can just use a frontend to act as the menu... or just have icons on your computer
each one would need its own set of tweaks anyway

that's right
youtube.com/watch?v=Hhg2Yc3Iu8w

i have extreme ocd and dont like having a bunch of icons

Worst Rush game

Pass

iirc there was a dude decompiling Ridge Racer Type 4
Smash would be good

file.png - 587x439, 251.64K

a frontend

This is honestly the way to do it, because it groups together non-N64 games too.
Check out Playnite, it's what I use to make my emulated games look good

the good thing about it is that mods could possibly fix whatever you don't like about it

and a keyboard

and stupid

bro i beat DDR!.....with a keyboard!

You did NOT play the game, controller is part of the game

Loved that game as a kid. Thanks

The dreamcast version is way better.

you know you can connect a controller to your PC, right?

Uhm anon, Perfect Dark already has a PC port with mods.

What can you mod it with?

You can but you won't like most emulation fags

Please clarify

The physics in this game sucked ass

yeah I know, but that is the decompile
the recomp will benefit from the modding framework that they developed for majora, and will get things like ray tracing

perfect dark with ray tracing could look really nice
and then if you use the XBLA HD textures (except joanna and elvis' face)
if the multiplayer worked online and with 16-32 players, and all of goldeneye's maps and weapons ported over, it would have legs

You aren't going to hook up a N64 controller to play a N64 even if you technically can

I don't understand what you're trying to say
I have an N64 controller pc adapter so I can play with my OEM controller

I wish they made these with a usb port so I don't have to use an adapter

61SB8zc70tL.jpg - 1333x999, 69.93K

People talk about online multiplayer but I wonder if there will be any anti-cheat or if it will be filled with cheaters and hackers

Bend over.

first step is actually getting the damn thing to connect to a server or other players using the decomp/recomp code
anti cheat can come later
it would still be a lot of work to do

Youre an exception to the rule

Post your dream ports and mods for said ports.

starfox 64 with 4 player coop
though it may break all the scripted events with falco/peppy/slippy

this
where the fuck is ratchet gladiator?!

The San Francisco Rush series is a bit garbage, but it's good that there's a recompilation, I think. Mainly because we're talking about arcade games and not the dreadful N64 ports.

There's still nothing wrong with playing with a traditional controller with buttons remapped.

San Francisco Rush series is a bit garbage

Rush 2 used to be the best racing game I ever played, you SHITLORD.

Anon Babble is full of shitters
rush is too hard for them

I feel like games where the AI actually will try to race you ends up discouraging to the player, hence why rubberbanding exists.

There's something grating about watching a car in front you that never gets closer or further no matter how hard you push your own car. You're not far behind but they're not so close that you could make a move and take the position from them so you're waiting for them to slip up and leave an opening you can capitalize on, which AI drivers will rarely do. In real racing this is just part of the experience but in a video game, where you're playing to actually WIN, this is a hard pill to swallow and not necessarily player-conducive.

Yes there is cause thats not the game, games are designed around the controller they were made for

Where is:
Paper Mario
Kirby 64
Banjo Kazooie
Banjo Tooie
Donkey Kong 64
Smash 64
Diddy Kong Racing

Kirby 64

Banjo Kazooie

Smash 64

the closest to release, almost 100% playable

Paper Mario

also close to release but nobody is working on a port

Banjo Tooie

Donkey Kong 64

Diddy Kong Racing

still have a long way to go

map C buttons to right stick

issue solved

you can just turn off the rubber banding in 2049 tbf
but it's true, if you are bad at racing games they give you bad feedback for improvement. if you don't know how to drive smoothly around a circuit and how to divide corners up into a racing line at high speed, you'll just never get good and never have any fun. it's not like other games where the penalty is instant death, it's a slow burn as you realize you can't do it.
for a racing game fan that is the fun, overcoming the challenge of a much faster opponent or a physically confusing circuit by driving exceptionally smooth and making no mistakes. you can't be a button mashing gorilla or get mad at the game. simply the act of racing around a track as smooth and as fast as possible requires some kind of alien level zen other games do not.

also 2049 has some of the best tracks with the best shortcuts in any racing game ever

Cheating the experience

It was officially rereleased for the GameCube and Wii, and remade on the 3DS with no way to connect an N64 controller so your argument doesn't really hold up
Who are you to say what the original artistic intent is?

f zero x + expansion kit could be good with online play and track sharing
only problem is fzero is too hard for most people so it'll be like 5 people playing... maybe ever

No, never mind, that course is in SE. If Presidio is in SE then so too should Mission.

when's Dick Kickem's turn. Or did his two games already get recompiled on PC.

Huh, no Duke64. I guess there isn't much of a point since somebody could just recreate it in Build.

KEKAROO, all that and it's STILL more relevant than whatever shovelware you played?

Why not emulate it directly form a MAME emulator?

Looks better than modern games and I'm not kidding.

This skips the emulation part and just runs it on your PC natively.
That means it can run perfect, widescreen, max fps, and because the decompiled code is available, that means you can mod the game to your hearts content with pretty much whatever you want since you have the reverse engineered source code (as long as someone makes the mod)

Luckily both are getting decompiled, so we can play the Expansion pack in a much easier way when it eventually releases, which is a big part of what I'm looking forward to when it eventually releases

Or YOU make the mod...

Which one anon?

right about now it's time to rock with the biggity buck bumble
