Not everything. The biggest mistakes they did is trying to base on Metro and using slop engine 5, but the concepts that were developed in previous stalker are still there. E.g. anomalies and artifacts systems, you had it purely random/no requirements in SoC, then in CS they added a detector that you needed, in CoP they added anomaly fields where you can get artifacts and concept of “legendary artifact”(i think it was only compass there and you had to give it back), now you have a full set of legendary artifacts and archanomalies that have strange items. The plot is also strictly relevant to the lore of previous games and expands on it. The stealth is actually working this time for a change.

The games look gorgeous as fuck to this day. Just remember to switch to FULL Dynamic Lighting mode (DirectX9 or 11); the default DX8 mode is literal 2002 mode, and while it looks charming, you'll miss on the fancy modern effects.
If that's not enough for ya, the Starter Pack has some nifty, vanilla-friendly visual mods as an option. Absolute Nature overhauls the environments, Shaders Max brings in stuff like SSAO and deep parallax mapping (it also has annoying desaturation filters, so disable those), and Stalker Weather Overhaul brings in a bunch of new weather cycles and darker nights. I quite dislike the latter, since it tends to make the game very brown and rainy, while also diminishing the atmospheric distance fogging the vanilla uses to make landscapes seem bigger than they actually are, thus showing some ugly clipping in some scenes.
CS and CoP have the AtmosFear mod doing the same thing, but better.
There is an elevator in front of chemical plant where the player is usually attacked by bloodsuckers, if you kill the bloodsuckers and wait near the bridge that connects chemical plant and military warehouses you can see bloodsuckers crossing the bridge and going to said elevator. If you kill them and go to the elevator nobody will attack you, so the system works

Literally no one complained about the weapons day 1, because at that point STALKER was just a very typical PC game. It felt like a fancy mix of Half-Life, CS, System Shock 2, and a tiny bit of FO(1-2). Everyone was a-OK with cone of fire, ADS was cool, and everyone was excited about the bullet physics. The RPG-like, gear oriented progression also wasn't a foreign concept to gamers at the time, so it was taken that the early game "hobo phase" gear would suck ass compared to late game stuff.
Console peasants and normies also did not start pouring onto this website en masse before 2010s, fueled by the social media and iPhone boom. Thus, STALKAN threads were indeed all about sharing jolly greentext stories, neat tactics, and various challenge runs templates.

Graphics are blurry but beautiful at the same time. They added goyim stuff like FSR and frame generation and I think they've changed some of the weapons balance (at least in the first game) because it seems a lot easier to do one shot kills.

Whenever I play GAMMA I do a couple things to it to make it slightly less MISERY-fied.
add experience framework and RPG skills. Makes the grind feel less pointless and adds another bit of progression so it's not just trying to make a weird mutated version of tarkov
remove YACS and NPC loot claim
increase goodwill multiplier and money gained
if I'm feeling really lazy, increase the condition of stalker equipment held by the highest rank stalkers since it's stupid as fuck for master rank stalkers to be using a 30% dogshit AK and have no ammo either.
There are other mods you can add which fit nicely into their weirdly tested and stable modpack, though there's been an issue lately with some fucking saiga animations that I had to patch out.
