RESIDENT EVIL 2 BRIAN IRONS

1998

mysterious

unsettling

doesn't care about sherry

increasingly psychotic

a corrupt cop driven mad by the t-virus incident and betrayal by his masters

2019

cartoon moustache villain

wants sherry for no reason at all

motives unclear beyond "haha i'm evil cuz I'm a dick"

simply there as a generic sub-villain to fill time

How can a shitty 5 polygon character with like 5 voice lines in 1998 be more interesting than what we got in RE2:Demake?

Image3.jpg - 640x480, 110.73K

you could try a bit harder than that

2 and 3 Remake are the Mystic Quest of Resident Evil

kendo was worse

2 seconds on screen and becomes a fan favorite with a funny line delivery and untimely death

turn into some tearjerker muhh daughter shit that adds nothing to the game

super lame

By the time I noticed something was wrong, the entire city was infested with Claire.

In a distant sequel, chris is wearing sunglasses and ranting about the complete global saturation of the redfield virus

great point.
Plus back then it had more impact because you had no idea zombies were about to bust-- i mean walk right through the window to eat his ass.

He was especially funny on claire's file. "Don't you worry, girly" lol delivered like the voice actor had the biggest grin on his face.

He wanted to fuck Sherry, obviously, dumbass.

This looks a nightmare after playing too much RE2.

Then why didn't he fuck her? He just locked her up. That whole house segment where you're sneaking around as sherry was cringe filler.

Just post Sherry already ffs

This scene is emblematic of how they fucked up the tone of the entire game, a half assed wannabe hollywood simulacrum of RE2.
Only good thing I can say about it is that it made me really appreciate the atmosphere of the original way more than I did before.

OP Here. Just watched the RE2 demake Chief Irons scene in the parking garage and noticed something.

After Irons takes Sherry and is walking up the parking garage ramp, Claire breaks free from her restraints and has at least 5-10 seconds to pull out her pistol and shoot Irons in the back. Instead, she runs to the closing grate and slams it, screaming "I'll get you , you fucker!"

Very very bad.

Sherry buttplug mod

Damn, why is Anon Babble filled to the brim with stupid people?

OP here again. Yeah your totally right. In fact I recently completed RE2(1998) on dolphin gamecube emulator with the AI-upscaled pre-rendered backgrounds mod. Beat all four scenarios too. Great game, though I did kind of feel the last half of the game felt rushed and especially linear which isn't a bad thing, but if the whole game was linear like that it wouldn't be as good. The RPD was a masterpiece.

Currently playing RE1 HD Remaster on Steam. Specifically finishing off a couple of remaining achievements, currently doing a knife-only run with Jill on very easy.

TheDarkId's Resident Evil screenshot LPs were legendary.

though I did kind of feel the last half of the game felt rushed and especially linear which isn't a bad thing

I honestly wish the resident evil games had set paths where each character did their own separate thing instead of reusing the police station or other set pieces for all the characters. Having the canon timeline include pieces and bits from each route really sours things.

Man, the whole saga of that dude's increasingly outlandish lies is really something else. He claimed to be some kind of elite CIA assassin being hunted by the Russian Mafia for killing a general in Ukraine or some nonsense like that. Then people started calling him out and he claimed to be dying of asshole cancer that would kill him in exactly 3 days, but don't worry if you still see his Steam account online, he bequeathed it to his wife (Heinrich Himmler's great granddaughter and a rival assassin he woo'd on a mission, btw.)

was he being serious?

Dead serious, it was almost like a weird little Discord groomer cult of outcasts and losers he managed to rope in. IIRC he also claimed to have a sick daughter and raked in a bunch of donations for her medical treatments.

I agree. Re-using assets whenever possible is as we know standard practice. If done too much however, it can feel cheap (think WoW same monster different skin syndrome).

Having just played all four RE2 scenarios and going to RE1 Remaster, I had a sneaking suspicion they reused and slightly tweaked a section of the Spencer mansion for the RPD station in re2.

As you can see from the pics the room style is identical. I bet they took the same room model from RE1 and just heavily tweaked it for RE2.

I'm sure there is probably other examples.

Oh that's a shame, because a gaming Youtuber who tells elaborate fantasies sounds like it'd be fun.

I thought Umbrella was paying him off to sabotage RCPDs response effort.

I actually played RE2 for the first time last month and you are right. Irons was done much better than in the REmake where he was a cliched villain. In fact almost everyone is characterized worse except for Leon.

Where can I read about this?

Welcome to the OG club, anon. In remake, I find Claire's voice actor to be pretty bad. I don't get any sense of real panic or emotion from her. She's too much of a girlboss superhero for my tastes.

Let's not kid ourselves though, there's some pretty heavy cringe in the original too, such as Ada telling leon she "really enjoyed spending time" with him. But overall the whole package comes together more tightly with the original.

literally sitting over the body of a woman he just killed in the original that Claire just handwaves for no reason

said woman even wrote a note that basically says "GEE IRONS IS BEING FUCKING CRAZY, I HOPE HE DOESN'T KILL ME"

>>>>mysterious

He was comically insane in both versions, fuck off

They were indeed. Irons was the one who right before the outbreak ordered most of the police armaments to be removed from the basement level armory and scattered throughout the station, limiting the response capability of the rpd. He was also instrumental in shutting down STARS efforts to uncover/expose Umbrellas involvement in the mansion incident from the first game.

wants sherry for no reason at all

I can think of a few reasons

borkin.png - 539x538, 268.54K

Please stop thinking.

Great game, though I did kind of feel the last half of the game felt rushed and especially linear

It definitely is though on my first playthrough way back when it seemed thematically appropriate, like it was building up to the final boss & escape but on repeat playthroughs its definitely not as fun.

Currently playing RE1 HD Remaster on Steam.

Speaking of I feel like this whole game suffers from that feeling, its like seeing behind the curtain how everything works after the first time & its never been the same for me, its like groundhog day. I get this feeling like I'm being openly railroaded in the remake thats not nearly as obvious in the original, still like the remake despite that & the tone deaf voice acting just prefer the original overall.

Claire had no proof Irons killed the mayors daughter. They were in the midst of a zombie outbreak, and her wounds looked like zombie bites. Though Claire did hear her scream.

Yeah, we know why CLAIRE didn't suspect him, but they made it obvious as fuck for the player. Again, he's comically evil in both versions.

I went blind to the remake and went I turn around the corner I was so disappointed not seeing the shop nor Kendo being an asshole
I always laughed at how rude he was with Leon and how horny he was with Claire. Le deep and le feel == good character

best version of him hands down

Seeing tomb raider remasters I wonder why the fuck Capcom won't hire them to make easy money, like, imagine playing with cgi Leon and Claire and even add Ada escapes mode

why are demakes dogshit compared to the originals? Artistry and passion

Why are they so popular? you shoot things, mouth breathing normies like that

Original Ada's cover for being an umbrella agent searching for the G virus is that she's a civilian looking for her boyfriend who she believes escaped through the sewers

Leon followers her because he really thinks she's a helpless civilian

You get a subtle hint that she's not who she says when you play as her - she fires her handgun way faster than Claire or Leon

In the remake here cover for being an umbrella agent searching for the G virus is that she's an FBI agent searching for the G virus

Leon follows her even though she out ranks him and saved his life from a zombie dog because... she's a woman?

She tells Annette she's an umbrella agent like ten minutes after being introduced because...???

I legit believe Capcom will remake 1 again but this time using OGre1 colours. They also avoid the 4 stories problem re2 had

Because they are funny tps games with some quality after all. Like the Umbrella/Darkside versions, just think of them as different games

They reuse quite a few RE1 textures too. The most obvious ones are the lab walls with the big XD-R stencils.

Because they are funny tps games with some quality after all. Like the Umbrella/Darkside versions, just think of them as different games

i shoot thing

Ironically Claire was way more of a girlboss superhero in the original where you could even argue she's the real protagonist and Leon's just along for the ride.

I mean, re has been action ever since 2.

Alyson Court IS Claire. I hate how overprotective they are with their jap va but not with the English va. Re5 Chris was great and now he is just Carlos kek

I think they gave Kendo the SOB story to explain why he was still hanging around his shop (since he intended to commit murder-suicide) instead of just packing his van with his entire armory and getting the fuck out of town when things started getting bad.

I mean fucking apocalypse, not everyone will react fast or the same and he probably thought it was better to wait for the army.
Like that guy hiding in the truck in re3

3 is the actiony game from the trilogy but it still plays like a Survival Horror thanks to Nemesis. In the OG 2 you can't even kill the first Licker.

She tells Annette she's an umbrella agent like ten minutes after being introduced because...???

Because they either assume everyone is a moron who can't pick up on subtext or because the writers are morons who are incapable of being subtle with their stories.
Or maybe they just rushed it & deliberately made it that way to save time, thats the impression I got from 3's story especially.

Because they either assume everyone is a moron who can't pick up on subtext

They can't, the average modern gamer is unable to read subtitles and you want them to understand implications lmao.

i shoot thing

I hate that you're right

love irons, simple as

it was just capcom baiting the last of us normie audience and it falls flat as expected

Im not looking forward to what they're going to do with the tone of that remake. Its seemingly gotten worse with each remake but then again given the source material I don't see how it could be any worse than the original remake. Unlike 4 there's no 80s action movie pulp for them to awkwardly redo in total deadpan seriousness. They'll probably just copy paste the original remake script & call it a day.

Not with the starting handgun anyway. Not even with infinite ammo enabled.

image

holy fuck, I guess I should just be happy they're not having the characters making grunting noises in the cutscenes lol god damn I didn't know its gotten that bad.

Shit, maybe I should enable subtitles on more games more often.

That'd be cool.

I still hope one day they'll REMASTER RE2 (1998) like they did with RE1. Maybe add some extra content like planned but cut sections of the original (of which there were many according to the director).

For those who haven't seen it here's the video youtube.com/watch?v=gFGDvXnrTSI
It's a reupload since the original on the warytherook's channel is gone for some reason (also drops just that one video and disappears). It also has Anon Babble's favorite youtuber in the comments.

Goddamn that is embarrassing to read as a burger.

Soory aboat thaht babe. I ain't got no clue darlin'.

AI upscaled

mod

You didn't beat the game.

You just walk around it until you get the shotgun like 5 minutes later then murder it. On my first playthrough I killed literally every enemy in the game and still had ammo left over.

I'll maintain that screenshot Lets Plays are vastly superior to video ones. Screenshots allow more freedom to interpret the game and be entertaining while 99% of people, including 100% of LPers, are not funny, entertaining or charismatic enough to make video playthroughs anything other than a chore to watch.

Makes me wonder how much longer we're going to have running water & electricity desu.

These games are literally meant for 13 year olds, and at the time I bought Chief Iron's explanation. It only clicked on a replay hwen I heard the screams that it was then that Irons attacked her.

but it says M on the cover....

Explain how I was playing the game in grade 8, and how I bought it then?

you were mature for your age :^)
