Most games that are considered good usually just do a couple things right and majorly drop the ball on everything else, Expedition 33 basically nails everything it wants to do to a high degree. The story/writing/characters are above most games and a lot of tv shows and movies, the OST is better than stuff like Nier Automata, the turn-based combat takes some of the best parts of other turn based games and mixes them together and the art direction is incredible. It's not perfect obviously but less remarkable games have been called GOATs before.
Also the majority of people who hate it are noticeably non-white (game has a majority white cast and draws heavily from european/french culture), low IQ (DUH TURN BASED ONG DIS BORING BRUH NO CAP) or contrarians. During my busiest months of the year I don't have the time to really sit down and enjoy a proper RPG. And now thanks to all this hype and shit the bar is set so high that anything other than an 11/10 masterpiece will now probably leave me underwhelmed. Like even if its a very good 9.5/10 at this point I'll have been oversold because of the fanbase.
