The right to human portrait and voice was signed into Chinese law last year, which made it illegal to AI clone voices for any reason, including VA work, so in this occasion they get more protection than Americans or Europeans. This is why SAG-AFTRA dishonestly misrepresented this standoff in the media,saying it's about "protection from AI" when Mihoyo already won't use AI voices since they're under Shanghai law.
The problem with SAG-AFTRA is that they demand from Mihoyo to ONLY hire SAG-AFTRA members, and force them to fire every single non-union VA, which would mean every non-American, and Mihoyo told them to fuck off.

If your contract is coming up for renewal, and you don't like the contrat that is to be renewed, you don't get to sit there and still keep your job. You will be replaced. You go bye bye and someone else takes the job. Because they're willing to work, and you aren't. Its a very basic concept and union fags think they can mafia stiff arm other people into doing what they want. But at the end of the day the employer calls the shots. VAs aren't a rare commodity. There are literally millions of people that can do the job. Companies will exclude you, they don't have to hire you just because you want them to. They don't have to keep you either, especially when the contract is up

SAG AFTRA is powerful because a lot of well known actors often do voicework for cartoons, 3D animated stuff, voiceovers for documentaries. That qualifies them as voice actors as well. So now you've got not only little nobodies who have done a few lines for a gacha game, but also big time stars. All backing each other

UK voice actors are usually trained in the theatre and do radio plays frequently. American voice actors are found rooting through the bins.

Its what's going to happen anyway. Years from now they'll hire people to do a baseline reading. A couple pages of text. They will then use AI to replicate that persons voice to make them say whatever they want. They will then give the original person a specific amount of money per spoken lines as the game moves forwards. You basically sell your voice to a company for their use. They will also buy peoples likenesses. A whole new frontier of whoring ones self out. Its going to happen. VAs are simply scared they wont be able to charge what they used to for it. And they wont

Not even just the angsty parts—her delivery in the quieter, more introspective moments hit hard.
