I think Rebirth is excellent, my favorite parts of it is how it does the open world and the combat. I really like that each area has its own level design quirks and gimmicks, as well as Chocobo mechanics that you need to use and actually engage with exploration.
I find it very rewarding, much more than the majority of open world titles. The area bosses are always fun too.

Actually, theres a really easy way to fix it: Dodging and parrying now cost AP, and balance the game around it.
That way, AP managing is actually important and not as broken + allows dodge and parry to not completely overshadow any other defensive method and RPG elements of the game.

Both stories are very similar in some ways but in Exp33, everything happens in a world and people thats fake and only affects some characters introduced later in the game, meanwhile in remake/rebirth you have a real world with multiple fake worlds that affect the main party and the protagonist

Haven't played Rebirth and have no opinion on it
But Remake achieved it's overall better balance (compared to the original) by substantially scaling back the strategic layer.

There's substantially less combinations or fun bullshit and map knowledge accounts for shit as progression and character builds remain that same at each individual point.
But I'm going to follow this up by saying that my initial statement wasn't meant derisively. FFT is so unbalanced that you can become an unstoppable killing machine just by playing the game. Like it a lot. WoFF spends like the first 30 hours with you given a bib and a pacifier. Like it a lot.

And i do agree...to a certain degree. But Exp33 reaches FFX autism. Builds no longer matter, playstyles no longer matter. Exp33 really needed a limit to Lumina and divide the post game in two categories: post-game before facing the final boss, and a post game AFTER facing the final boss (and THATS when they give you break 9999 damage lumina, not before)
That way, lumina/Picto managment system can shine and be strategic while not going stupid with the HP.
Once you finish the game, thats when they can go crazy.

This to me is the big issue with RPGs today. More options mean more descrepensy in gameplay harder it is for a company to hit that sweet spot.
You either need to limit options like BG3 or have a difgiculty slider like Owlcat.

The best comparable I can offer up to ground an interpretation for Rebirth's finale is unironically the ending to Almost Famous.

Rebith's final battles weren't the grand showdown they let on - obviously, since Rebirth is the middle part of a trilogy. Instead, they're how the party lashes out after the Madonna archetype dutifully surrenders to the void.
They also set the stage for how Aerith's consignment to fate can matter (Zack resolute in the church), and how it can be squandered (Cloud fiddling with the corrupted white materia).
That's just my cursory take on the in-universe stakes, mind you. The engine of the series is, IMO:

Cloud's new powers and degradation echoing how the OG FF7 player is both more wise, and less vital (having lost 25+ years to time since the OG)

What it means to be "complete" in the scheme of the infinite, a premise that does Nietzsche proud

For me it is Rebirth, the other games feel like they dont belong in the same category.

Rebirth is the only game out of them that has it all:

- good characters,
- lots of enemies and bosses,
- lots of enemy variations with more than 150
different enemy models,
- lots of bioms/location variety,
- lots of towns that are all unique and different
to each other
- amazing visuals
- amazing music and more of it than all the
other games combined
- good characters that play widely different from
each other
- longest and most content rich game and its
not even close
- most variety in content
- hardest game on hard mode
- largest game world by far
- and to top it all off easily the best combat
gameplay of them all with the objectively best
group action combat system in the entire
industry and it is not even close.

- As a bonus has the loudest few borderline schizo haters on /v who are contrarians because they think it will make them look cool which is giving rebirth the defacto seal of approval of /v.

All the other games might have maybe one thing they do better if you squint your eyes but fail in all other things by comparison to rebirth.
None of them are the complete package that rebirth is, none.

It follows the same beats with more depth to each part (and some weirdness with the time jannies), but yeah. The biggest issue is execution and dragging out every part of the game with long cinematics and new setpieces that are stupid.

Like, in Kalm in the original, you go to the hotel and Cloud tells the story about Sephiroth. In Rebirth, there's this whole shit about Shinra occupation and having to sneak out, among other things.

Everything is "bigger," which felt kind of neat in Remake, but Rebirth is "bigger than Remake," and it starts to wear thin early.

I don't like what they did with the ancient temple, original music was clearly more memorable than everything they did in Rebirth for that place. Not a single variation of it is memorable.

Most of the time, it was seeing things from the original scaled up that was cool, but actual story sequences? I struggle to think of one I liked. I started skipping them before I quit.
