Remakes are bad because like any other media product they are a product of their time; with their technical, creative and design limitations and advantages.
Their prevalence in the industry also means most developers are creatively bankrupt.
Ans if you care about whatever game franchise they are remaking, you would have already played the old games.

I will, which is why this one is so baffling. Like, compare it to Resi 4 remake, say, another game that absolutely didn't need one, but which at least justifies its existence by being its own game. It's not as good and I'll probably never to back to it again in the way I regularly go back to the original, but it was something new.
Delta is just MGS3 but with ugly uncanny valley characters (and apparently a worse soundtrack?) Who's this for? The people who'd bounce off the original for the visuals are the same ones who'll bounce off it mechanically.

The absolute ONLY way to do a remake is 1:1 exact replica of the original but with improved fidelity. If you move to a different engine, that's fine, but you better fucking stick to the EXACT art style, colors, etc. of the original. So fucking sick of ugly, soulless slop being churned out that looks WORSE than the original did despite having better fidelity. I think it sounded good in the context of the singer being 20 years older and doing it as best she can, like if they got her on stage to reprise it for a live event, it would be great in that scenario. as far as being matched up against the original in a big studio production like this, it sounds clearly worse though.

I think some remakes justify their existence by remaking something old enough that it feels like a totally new experience or at least gives you an experience that feels like a new take on the old idea. Most remakes however feel too similar. Its the same game I played 15 years ago but with better graphics and often worse art direction. HD graphics full of art outsourced to a dozen different asset farms. These games often come off as ugly. Sure it HD and has cutting edge graphics, but its harder on the eye.
And part of me can't help but imagine I missed out on another original game that might have existed that would have got made instead of that remake. Instead of spending 5 years and $400,000,000 remaking Bioshock we could have got a new game of the quality of that game they're remaking.
