greentexting in 1989

people used to put their full names, locations and email addresses on internet posts

Wild.

Why has PC ENGINE killed Nintendo? The answer lies in graphics.

kek

Indra Laksono joined Pixelworks in August 2017 as President of Pixelworks Canada. Doombros got the juice

where is Indra Laksono now? I want to know

I want to live in a parallel universe where the PC engine effectively became the world dominating console of the 90's

huh? what is this exactly? in 1989 almost nobody knew what internet was

They were reddit spacing back on usenet?

Insane.

this guy

That was USENET. Everyone either knew each other or assumed a baseline of professional conduct because access was usually limited to people at institutions or corporations with the technical means to run a node.

opinions are entirely mine

People were seriously doing that twitter leftist disclaimer shit back in the 80s? Fuck me...

Rather it was a shield for

if I'm wrong then you can't blame me

Because information wasn't as easy to verify then than it was today, so a lot of claims were just interpreted and guesstimated

Let it be known this was the same year the terms GIF, IRC, and FAQ came into being, if that helps put things into perspective

tfw we are now closer to 2050 than 2000

Wow you kept this screenshot for 40 years?

You found on google archives or reddit, poser.

Is it a bot that got triggered to the word "doomed"?

he was right
the NES only sold 60 million copies, which is less than every single sony console
the worst selling sony console, ps5, has sold 80 million

This, along with the internet of the '90s, was probably the most comfy online space imaginable. It was kind of comfy even in the 2000s, but I can't imagine how cool it was to post online in the '90s without stupid kids, blacks, and women. Computers were a niche hobby for smart White people. Usually, I want to get to the future for better, cooler tech, but thinking about the '90s like this makes me wish I could go back and be an adult at the time

Everyone does that now

man I don't know how old you are, but it was truly a magical time for computer enthusiasts. I remember the evenings and nights in the 90s that we spent on mIRC, talking about games and all sorts of things. absolutely glorious

There was a time when it got discouraged. But then it was brought back thanks to social media.

Nowadays you'd probably fail a job interview if you don't want to make a tiktok video showing why you want this job

My (dead now) step dad had a fucking 3DO at launch. I wish I would have asked him what drugs lead him to that decision

He probably had fun playing Road Rash at a demo station in the electronics store

released oct 31 1998

What a fucker at least have the decency to say daggerfall

it is odd to be in a post console war state, all the attempts at drumming it up feel hollow.

This was how text-based email clients back then quoted the original message being replied to. Its probably been like that since email was first invented in the 60's.

He was right, 4 consoles could not survive.

He was a college grad (masters) so I imagine he played RR on Sega Channel or some shit, saw it played movies, and he bought the GOLD 500$ one good gracious

I like how it’s commonplace again today to share personal info, even when it’s mostly strangers viewing your posts. Back then it would have been fellow alumni nerds, since the general public had no access to this kind of stuff for the most part and by the early 2000s, most new internet users were at least smart enough to be careful about using their legal name almost anywhere outside of maybe MySpace.

Give me back the white Internet. :(

It was the best when it was only for smart White people

Seeing things like this keeps putting a burr in the back of my mind that it's way past time for me to abandon the surface for the depths of usenet. I don't know how active it is anymore for actual discussion, but I can hope at least.

I want to go back bros

I want to go back

You were never there to begin with, and I'm not your bro

same bro, same

Not until July. We're in the 5th month of 2025, even if it is the back end of said month. That still puts us closer to 2000 than 2050.

The internet was white back then
