Also the fucking 4 in the title despite it taking place at the same time as VC1 but from a different perspective, meant a lot of people didn't bother to buy it fearing they'd have missed something.

Remaking 2 and 3 with all DLC, extra content, JP audio (only. Save money at least at first, given that VC3 never got an overseas release at all so there's no dubbing available) , and expanded and improved maps, mechanics, story etc.. would be cheaper and faster than a whole new game and show there's interest for the series again

VC5 set in the not-Pacific war. Plenty of maps opening with your troops in landing craft needing to make it to the beach safely before you can scout rush.

Later it turns out main girl was a Valkyria and she unlocks her walk on water power so you can clear everything in a single turn.

I wasn't feeling it. I'll grant that Raz is probably one of the better characters in the game but I didn't feel any of the emotion the game wanted me too. All of it felt so contrived or overly narrated.

They should just release remakes of VC2 and 3 with newly balanced maps so they can have one huge one instead of the mini ones due to the PSP's limits.

3 might have been my favorite of the series but seeing the same maps get repurposed so much did get really tiresome.

Both 2 and 3 suffered from simple PSP limitations. Remakes might be the way to go, but like all VC matters it's probably too late now.

People don't really care that much about the name, what really killed it was that the port of 1 was like 10 bucks a piece and 4 was ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME GAME, but 60 bucks a pop.

There was no tangible graphics upgrade. No tangible system overhaul. No big new ideas. Even the music was recycled.
This is the sort of shit you can pull on anime game fandoms like UNIST but for the majority of folks, you can't sell what looks like a bigger mod for an AAA price alongside the OG game for an absolute bargain.

The PSP limitations made the gameplay better.
Several camps you had to capture and then hold to be able to even move your units to other areas put a further damper on rushing past shit. Additionally since they made all those maps with the idea they were going to be used several times over, enemy units rely less on being scripted running around in circles into actually being very aggressive in constantly wanting to capture your shit.
