What Tony Hawk games are worth playing?

Just finished a recent playthrough of THUG1 and THUG2. Going to try American Wasteland soon

The best games in the series is THUG2 and THPS4.

I'm sad they never had any games afterwards. It looks like they released some others later but they bombed hard.

It's because Skate took over. Also, extreme sports game kinda fell off during that period as whole. Companies stopped making Tony Hawks, SSXs, NBA/NFL/FIFA Street, Blitz, Slugfest, Ready 2 Rumble, etc etc. That era was golden for extreme sports games. And there are so many I'm leaving out like Dave Mirra, Matt Hoffman, Grind Session, 2/3Xtreme, Sled Storm, etc. We really need to go back to fun games like that.

THPS4 having boomer rock like AC/DC and Iron Maiden that didn't fit skateboarding was definitive proof that it had jumped the shark. Even THPS3 was pushing it a bit with Ace of Spades.

Honestly, it depends on what you're going for. If you want the classic formula, it stops at THPS3. If you don't mind hunting for goals as missions across the levels, then that formula goes up to Proving Ground. American Wasteland is controversial for a number of reasons among fans, but in terms of the proper physics, it and the old-gen version of Project 8 are kind of the last hurrah for the classic physics taken to their logical extremes.
Many people here will say Underground 2 is where the buck stops, but ultimately I think so long as you go towards Project 8 and Proving Ground with open eyes for change, you can basically find everything before Ride/Shred to be good in some way or another. And there's Project 8+ / Proving Ground+ that let you mess around and restore old physics, too.

Once that shift hits, though, there's not a single good thing in the franchise til the 1+2 remakes. Even HD was kind of a floaty, sloppy disaster.

I played every tony hawk game besides 4. 1-3 on n64 and when i got a ps2 thug just came out and i just got whatever was most current. Its still weird to me since i liked the games so much and they pretty much gave me my taste in music.

American wasteland is mechanically the best for sure. Also has some killer music. Project 8 is weird as hell but not bad. Thats pretty much the end of anything worthwhile. Project 8 however was insane when it came out. That ps2 to ps3 tech jump was crazy for everything. You had to have been there.

Honestly, there's this weird thing I've seen over the years where people think hiphop, ska and chill vibes are all that goes into skateboarding, and yet bitch and moan about Ring of Fire and The Doors for THUG2. The rocking music is perfect for this series, fantastical and exaggerated environments being tackled by skaters breaking the laws of physics as it really gets the blood pumping.
The only music I'd really bitch about for the franchise is shit like the really bad rap, but it's got someone's attention somewhere.

There's also this really lame gatekeeping in the punk scene towards people who listen to "boomer rock" when that's what a lot of 80's hardcore and skate punk bands they love were listening to. I must be slow or retarded then, because as someone who only invests in games I feel like I can 100% because I don't have the bandwidth to just do a hundred 15 -hour games with no replayability, I tried for hours to figure out the trick to do the trick (pun not intended). After a couple days of trying, I got a refund.
To me, it was like playing sonic 4, if the physics are fucked, but they're portraying it as a honest remake/sequel/revisit/etc, and it doesn't feel the same, I'm out. I also didn't care for some tracks not making it, while other new ones got added, or so it seemed, I know, licencing blah blah blah, but I can still want what I want

The physics are definitely different and anyone who says otherwise hasn't played them back to back with the old ones. Literally everything from animations, input windows, physics in the air etc. is tighter and it definitely gives the overall gameplay the feeling of a modern game paying homage

Kind of a side point, but you would have had a miserable time doing the hard "Get There" challenges for 100% because they require absolute mastery of the new physics which is another reason it blows me away that people say they feel just like the old games. The best method for completing a few of them requires exploiting the new physics.
