The means Mass Effect 4 has chosen Green as the canon ending. Which is the laziest ending they could pick to reuse the Mass Effect IP without taking any actual risks with it.

Red End: Mass Relays were disabled/destroyed. The galaxy as we knew it is fucked for a good long time. HOWEVER: the Reapers were destroyed, and life.....finds a way

Blue End: Shepard MERGES with the Citadel, becomes an all-powerful AI which directs The Reapers as ShepAI sees fit. You COULD work with that.

Green End: The Reapers are defeated and everything is HUNKY FUKKEN DORY. Magic Space Rays made every Reaper friendly, made every machine sentient and every race is working alongside sentient machines to rebuild their worlds. BioWare is going to write in a Geth acting like a sassy black woman and her name shall be D3-BR-4.

Green should be the most up in the air ending. Shepard changed the fundamental nature of sapient life by making everyone into a machine/organic hybrid. The entire paradigm of existence changed in an afternoon. The galaxy would probably be in apocalyptic turmoil afterwards. Unfortunately I genuinely don't believe Bungie will actually use Green End to anywhere close to it's fullest potential and we'll just get a return to the ME status quo but people have glowing eyes and tattoos or some shit.

If only Mass Effect could've done something similarly, but everything is just taken for what it is with zero critical thought by the way it's portrayed narratively.

I picked green when I was younger because I was naive, and also it was obviously the good boy "everyone gets along" ending.
However, now I see that destroy is the only real option. How do you coexist with something that only views you as food? That which can not only overpower you with physical force, but can violate your very mind? It doesn't matter what the devs say, I would not be able to allow that kind of threat to live. A more dangerous threat than if the Rachni and Krogans allied, and far more repulsive to boot.

That's kind of the point of paradise. Everyone forgetting all their grudges and getting along like a child's fantasy is so far fetched that we don't believe it's possible, but that's exactly what synthesis is.
None of this makes it a bad ending. There's a better thought as to why Synthesis is bad, and that is: Why would they get along just because they understand each other? Sure, you now have nothing to fear about your enemies because you're exactly the same as them, but synthesis won't make you forget all the bad stuff nor erase all feelings you have against them. It won't erase your hatred. It won't erase the sadness of losing your loved ones. It won't erase discrimination. Thinking that conflict would disappear simply because different people have the same capabilities and thoughts is foolish.
Synthesis isn't bad because it's a dreamland, but because it is presented as if everyone will become buddies.

It makes me vaguely recall that there was a kotor clone with space squid reapers, rex and purposefuly uglified fem rom choices. I am still especially traumatised by ugly bald female race.

i mean, it was pretty obvious that the writers wanted Synthesis to be the golden ending. problem is, its still a shitty ending where you give the Reapers exactly what they state they wanted. nevermind the whole "that's what Saren wanted" argument, the writers didn't remember what happened in the first game. in ME3 itself, the Reapers state they want Synthesis. the writers' golden ending is giving the villains the ultimate victory.
