When it came out, the agressive DLC scheme turned many people off (including myself). Executive meddling wasted studio time on pointless multiplayer stuff. Story was also not finished in this game, so the game is cut too.

With all these factors combined, the game naturally underperformed. It's actually a good game and I'd like to see the story end at some point, but I'm probably dreaming...

As for the game itself it sucks for a bunch of reasons, I haven't touched it in like 10 years but from what I remember

Gamelay was pretty broken from what I remember, no reason to use some powers while others steamroll everything

World felt smaller than previous games

Literal cuck shit shoved into the game (some guy not being happy his wife is fucking an augmented guy, and some woman telling him it's no different to her using a dildo)

Transhumanism as the main aspect of the game, illuminati being goofy guys with stupid masks, while the first game lists off executive orders, talks about how taxes are used as a form of control, corporate lobbying of the government, etc. The entire series tried to move away from and downplay that in favour of transhumanism even though that shit is more important than ever given all the social media spying, patriot act, massive increase of idpol after OWS, having backdoors built into computers at the lowest level (IME), rise of political correctness to stiffle free speech, etc.

So overall, worse game than previous that further changes the atmosphere from something dealing with actual dystopian policies IRL, to instead focus on identity politics. It was remarkably better than Human revolution, but it was half a game. Also it had a pointless online game thing to sell microtransactions. Some of the dlc was also one time use items. Like one play through use, so if you started a new game you had to buy it again. Pretty shitty stuff.

I've played Mankind Divided right after Human Revolution and Human Revolution was real fucking annoying and Mankind Divided both somewhat fixed the previous bad things and added new trite shit, which did not contribute to enjoying the game. Gotta replay it one day.

I enjoyed it as a game and the combat is strictly better than HR but I didn't care as much about the story and it felt like square enix was just wasting time thinking they could turn this series into the next ass creed with regular entries instead of actually finishing the story.
