I love Dieselmech's design and character, and I think he's not AS strong as people make him out given how many times his armor has been nerfed but making him most players' first impression would be a really bad idea because DM is one of the strongest noob/scrub killers I've ever seen in a modern fighter. You have to lab the matchup to play against him and players dipping their toes in won't be doing that, they'll just watch their pokes get destroyed and drop the game.
The free demo with Rory/Ruby/Eleanora actually does have online play, but you can only play with other people who have the demo. I think if they made the two cross-compatible it would get more people in the door, but there are realistic security concerns about doing that because GBVS Rising lets you crack the demo to play the full game, and someone would probably find a way to do that with DL too
