How do you feel about HD-2D?

how do you feel about HD-2D?

dragonquest.webm - 1244x700, 3.84M

I honestly don't see the appeal, I would rather have full 2d HD game or a full 3d HD game

I think I have a few of those on the switch. Can you make a list of them?

I have yet to play a game in this style. Might get octo 2 (haven't played 2), seems to get some good reviews here.

remove most of the post processing and then it starts looking decent

I like 2.5d, hate hd-2d.

Love it. My indie game is going to be 2D-HD.

they're just heavily copying ragnarok online. the only differences are they're using modern graphics apis. directx 11+ crap like post processing, depth of field, tessellation, 64bit higher quality textures, etc.

this.

It reminds me of Final Fantasy Tactics for PSX. They should make FFT2.

I like the idea, but in practice, they tend to go way overboard with the post-processing effects. Your webm would look much better without so much bloom and DoF.

Lazy and ugly.
Just use 3d character models please. They fit much better in those environments.

it's awful, literal visual barbarism. pick a visual language and stick with it. an object made of pixels should cast a shadow made of pixels.

Are there any in this style that use hand drawn sprites instead of pixels.
Great style btw

It's excellent. I want DQ IV-VI in this style

I feel like it would look good if they removed the fucking bloom

Visual vomit. Doing too much with the effects, and huge visual clash that really kills immersion. No artistry behind it, just technical spectacle. Environmental storytelling isn't compatible with it, and neither unique style. All looks the same.

NPCs love it because it's new and shiny. Basically grafixfaggotry for pixel art.

Just remake these hames in the style of DQ7 3DS version. Looks much better than this dogshit.

Looks cool but haven't played any because it's all some jrpg crap

This

It's an ugly cris-ass looking art direction. Give me proper 3d or proper pixel art.

What's the difference?

I feel like 2DHD is cool enough, but I'm not playing censored games. Remove shitty localizers and consultants and you can have my money again, SE.

Just another excuse to make JRPGs cheaply

Visual vomit.

Anyone who uses this is a retard who has no argument other than old thing good.

Hd2d is a squaresoft marketing term for their horrendous style of 2.5d

F(ifth)PBP

No it's accurate and the anon articulated his argument very well actually, shame you got triggered at the sight of a key phrase and missed it in your rush to lash out.

you sound trans

You literally said it looks good but you don't like it because it's not old. That's an accurate summary of your entire post.

I hate it even when it's done well
This aesthetic doesn't work for me at all

I prefer the style of DQ11 3DS, but yes going full 3D would've been much more preferable even if it were chibi/SD.

Were you dropped on your head?

I like it. Could do with simpler lighting effects, though.

They're cool with UEVR

Then you don't like it, the overdone lighting and blur are its signature elements.

I like it but it's all mostly older games you beat in a few days. I want something I can play for a while.

Bloom lighting hurts my aged and decrepit eyes.

Doing too much with the effects

Looks good but old brain can't keep up with.

technical spectacle

Once again saying it looks good.

Environmental storytelling isn't compatible with it, and neither unique style. All looks the same.

Don't like because not old.

grafixfaggotry

Aka stuff that looks good.

Cope.

How do you set that up?

You're making a spectacle of your reading ability.

It's okay I guess, but if they're going that route I don't see how low poly chibis aren't superior in every way.
Gachas like Bl*e Archive and N*kke use them to great effect, they're cute and charming. They don't stick out like sore thumbs from the background either.

I love it, reminds me of some PS1 and DS games plus shit like Trails in the sky.
Sometimes a full 3D remake isn't needed or ends up looking a bit cheap like Trials of Mana (UE can be ugly sometimes, water looks like jelly).

My problem is also the font and UI, I just don't like how it's not also sprite-based.

At least this dude admitted he was just old. Just cope unc, your balding head should have been a sign a long ass time ago.

You just inject it into any Unreal Engine game and the use the in game GUI to configure it.

What made octopath so appealing originally was that the textures were pixelated to fit alongside the sprites. High definition textured environments next to pixelated sprites just makes it look like a cheap unity game.

I find those to be really good looking
But I've never played one of those

A fun gimmick the first time.
Lame as shit now.

shitty 3d backgrounds

shitty low-res sprites

shitty 2 fps animation

What part of this is HD? I'm not a big fan of how stagnant the DQ games feel, but at least they looked good when emulating their style of games into 3D. This is just taking a half step backwards with nothing to show for it.

Absolutely fucking hideous. Who the hell wants this crap?

previews are saying they added some qol improvements. Hopefully they patch them into the 3rd one because if not then what the fuck

Dammit I need a job

Hopefully they patch them into the 3rd one

My understanding is they did exactly that already, with the patch they released last week.

I don't like it.

Gay shite that is going to ruin the Chrono Trigger Remake.

is this octopath?

I love it personally. I think it's pretty

DQ1-3 do not fit 3D aesthetics. They're very simplistic games and the 2D aesthetics benefit that.
Like, imagine Zelda 1 in 3D it'd be jarring for the lacking characters and story to have the grandiose of 3D models, and it's the same thing for DQ.

Based shite that is going to improve the Chrono Trigger Remake.

Pure trash

ya its gona b grate
