Which one is more worth it in your opinion?

It's the end of the month so I just got paid. Always wanted a dedicated camera because phone photos look so fake, but also I really want a ps5 pro to enjoy Stellar Blade (I know it's coming to PC, but Denuvo is a dealbreaker and I prefer console optimization)

Advice?

APS-C

LOL LMAO

The camera is objectively a better choice if you spend a lof ot time with THE hobby.

Taking pictures could develop into something that makes you money or helps establish real connections with people, while playing games all day is nothing but a waste of time

get the PS5 and save up for a big dick DSLR. mirrorless is some gay shit barely better than a camera phone and there isn't even a viewfinder for how large the stupid thing is

They are both shit.

as this is Anon Babble and I like video games and couldn't care less about photography or filming, I'm going to have to go with the PS5

better sensor than any phone

console with no games

entry level camera that compares to a modern phone

Buy an used camera with a larger sensor. More specifically, bigger pixels.

I thought dslrs were obsolete?

The camera.

If you are really going to frequently use the camera at a semi-professional level, then the camera.
I like videogames, but going out to take pictures is generally better for you.

first i've heard of that, but shit even an eos 600d from 14 years ago captures light exponentially better than whatever the fuck phone makers are advertising these days so you'll be better off getting one secondhand if that were the case. you like your photos crisp then DSLR is still supreme

Photography is the stupidest activity man engages in. It is not art. It has never been and will never be art. It is a price gatekept hobby for the rich to receive praise for zero effort. Reality was not meant to be trapped in amber. It is meant to be reflected upon, depicted, and transfigured. Stale stasis imprisonment is an affront to the nature of existence.

camera obviously. there isn't a single good game these days worth dropping 650 yuro on

like what? it needs to be not much larger than a phone or it's worthless.

If you're asking this question in the first place, I know you'll get bored of the camera in a few weeks, just get a PS5.

I plan to use it indoors to take photos of my figurines.

false

buy a macro lens

If you want a sony camera get a used SNOY A7III, probably still the best value full frame offering they got without being completely ancient. You are gonna want full frame, smaller sensors will not give you good results if you are pixel peeping autist such as myself.

false what?
I'm not using a camera bigger than my phone when I have my phone with decent enough camera.
you don't have a say in it.
so either provide answer within parameters or fuck off.

gayest shit I ever heard, I withdraw my suggestion

I'm more of a Canon guy but the camera easily

Buy a canon mirror less for less and have money left over for more lenses. If you actually want to shoot film beyond a few minutes a mirror less DSLR like this won't cut it.
t.photographer

Connections with people

Professionally yes. But I have almost no social life whatsoever.

but Denuvo is a dealbreaker

Have you tried not being an autistic sperg

just get an iphone, sperg

Photography is not art you are correct but no need to sperg out about it unsolicited

mobile snapshitters think they take Photos

The camera industry is a funnel for tax money, scholarships etc are given to retards who spend them on overpriced cameras because the college created by a corporation demands they do so. It only exists as a tax funnel. It is money laundering.

buying a 5000 dollar camera and fucking around with iso setting and lighting for an hour when you can just write a prompt

Lol

terrible advice

digital photography is gay
get into analog photography. but play with a budget. having too much money makes a hobby garbage.

limit your budget to $300 and try to get: a SLR, 35mm film (at least 3 or 4) and all the minimal equipment for developing film yourself (it's not that expensive).

seeing the result is amazing. going to some remote town and only having 24-32 photos to snap, carefully trying to get good ones is amazing. and you stop caring about pointless social photos.

Apeture priority

what are you, a child? learn to set your exposure like a man

are you a serious film photographer? did you start shooting film or did you start with digital? maybe let the guy buy a camera and learn the basics before you demand he convert his potentlially nonexistant garage into a darkroom.

bussin

frfr.jpg - 2880x2445, 351.51K

both have nogaems so neither

Actual professional here. I put money on the fact you have never exhibited or published. Anyone can shoot boring landscapes, no one cares about setting autism. Do something creative.

turning anything into a dark room

this is how you show you dont know shit about anything.
you don't need a dark room for absolutely anything. you can do everything in a perfectly lit room.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Changing_bag

buy an older mirrorless for 1/5 the price, could be an older sony with the same mount, and get a fast macro lens. new cameras are riduously overpriced, a good lens is more important

oh shit Anon Babble is leaking again
newer APSC cameras are fucking great mostly because they cost 1/4 of full frame equvalent
also the new autofocus anamorphic lenses are APSC only and pure sex

Just learned that actual cameras can't zoom without the appropriate lens. How much will I need to shell out to get the complete package?

With proper lighting a good phone's more than enough for that. Cameras have turned into a meme where everything except the top stuff is worse than flagship cameras because they cheap out on the image sensor

Just get the PS5 Pro because it will be going on sale and Stellar Blade runs great on it. The camera will be there next month.

Not the zve10 then?

The PS5 pro is just slightly better than the regular PS5

What does the ball of fuzz on the camera do?

Canon's mirrorless standard zoom (24-70mm f/2.8) brand new is around 2000$
but all things considered 70 is still pretty close
for longer ranges you might want a telephoto or even a super telephoto
there are also superzooms lenses but they tend to be of rather slow and of poor quality
never buy brand new unless you actually do photo/video work
get an RX10 if you just want to take voyeur photos of your hot neighbour

How the fuck did I respond to the wrong thread?
Brain must still be kinda wonky.

A decent modern zoom lens varies but actual good ones from third parties start at 1000$. Branded lenses are of course way fucking more. But don't knock third party lenses. The Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD is an extremely good zoom lens for most occasions and typical photos.

got any specific suggestions for an older one?

Sony A6000 maybe?

do you care about video? this is a camera aimed at vloggers. it's new so it has the newest bestest chip that will be faster better at encoding and stuff. otherwise it's just a 24 mpix aps-c e-mount camera, theyve been making these for 10 years

If you actually want to shoot film beyond a few minutes a mirror less DSLR like this won't cut it

What do you actually buy for hobbyist videography? A used Lumix?

I plan to do some artsy product unboxings for my own personal enjoyment

Why are cameras so expensive anyway? Especially the "high end" ones.

APS-C is fine, unless you print huge or do astro
But get a Fuji, not a Sóyny. A Fuji is a perfectly engineered machine that is a pleasure to use and will inspire to go out and take more photos. Sóyny cameras are tools for wedding photographers or other souless jobs.

bruh

Can you explain why you have to buy only Sony and no other camera?

I’ve only ever used my phone for taking photos and videos, so getting into actual cameras has been a complete mess. It’s like opening a toolbox full of stuff you don’t recognize everything looks kind of the same, but apparently does wildly different things, and everyone’s got a different take on what’s “the best.” The only reason I even mentioned the ZV-E10 is because a YouTube channel I trust recommended it.

youtu.be/Nh8vJWZuKCM?si=wk7Yao4u4xZCUl9n

Any other advice for me?

What's a good small camera to get into nature and landscape Photography?

you realize that for $500 it's just camera body without a lens?

who prints anymore? it's not 2010.
I'll stick with my Xiaomi.

How long do current cameras, like the one in the op, last before they get outclassed by the latest cameracentric phone?

landscape

small

smartphone unironically
or a premium compact like sony rx100 or ricoh gr. small enough to fit in your pocket but they are expensive probably not worth it
or a mirrorless camera but even with a pancake lens they aren't really small

same as they used, which is about six weeks

This is from my 11 year old camera, and no smartphone can come close to it in terms of image quality, detail, and zoom. Don't get me wrong, I love using my phone for snapshits or when I don't have my actual camera on me, but it's nothing I'd ever want to get printed.

depends on the user, I still use a d300 cause I dont like the overprocessed HDR pics that come out of a phone and im too lazy to shoot raw and edit.

So far, no phone has managed to outclass my cheapest and oldest camera (rebel t3i from 2011), except maybe for handheld video work.

Which one is more worth it in your opinion?

nothing has inherent worth for someone
a ps5 will be worthless for someone who plays 0 vidya, a camera will be worthless for someone who doesn't like taking photos

There's not real market for low-middle end cameras anymore because of the advancement of smart phone camera tech. Now there's just ridiculous R&D costs and high end shit. It's better to buy a used camera with a nice lens than a brand new one imo.

What camera?

while playing games all day is nothing but a waste of time

way easier to spark a conversation over videogame instead of gay photos nobody cares(phone camera is enough for most).

The vivo x100 ultra can take pics as good if not better than yours lmao

Any APS-C or larger sensor camera is going to perform better than a "cameracentric" phone. It's 100% gimmicks that retards have bought into. The only thing phones have going for it is the software, which auto-edits, denoises, and slaps AI processing on the photos for you into something normies like right out of the box without any effort. All other metrics has the actual camera winning. If you view camera phone images on a monitor at 100%, you'll see fake looking smoothness from all the processing.

Okay now try to take a pic from a distance farther than 3 feet or any wildlife photography for that matter.

no please dont make me crop

I still have my SX510 HS

This is a photo from my low-mid range camera (D90) that launched in 2007. The biggest limitation was the shit pack-in lens I was using, otherwise the image quality is pretty great considering it's nearly 20 years old. Dedicated cameras hold their own in terms of image quality far better than you'd think. You don't need to constantly upgrade to the newest version since very little changes between releases.

DSC_8152.jpg - 2848x4288, 3.49M

Depends. I have a D780 and my superior photos are blatantly more interesting to girls then any vidya talk.

Vidya is a waste of time and the worst hobby out there.

No offense, but this literally looks like a midrange phone's camera. Look at all the noise.

I'm interested in stuff like bird/nature watching, do any of you camera bros know of a camera + binoculars combo that won't decimate my bank account?

Watch out anon, someone's gonna post a horribly overgraded and sharpened camera snapshot with AI filtering to prove you wrong.

Phones are limited by physics. You cannot put a large lense on a phone. And the sensor will never be big enough to capture lots of light.
However, phones cope by having massive chips, and phone companies like Apple or Jewgle have 100x times more R&D than the largest camera makers. So they compensate with software, e.g. denoising algorithms, generative ai, filters, etc.

Making a career in video games is unironically easier to do than to be a photographer in the modern era

Hey, have you ever played Balatro?

No.

Oh, okay.

Wow, that's a great photo! Do you do events?

Just ordered a micro43 camera myself

Nice videogame thread btw.

For birding get a m43 with the longest lens you can afford. Look for used gear. Do some research about autofocus, and burst speed, as you will probably want somethign that has animal recognition and shoots fast.

D750
Congratulations of getting within three feet of a cat to photograph it

So it's all fake?

no offense

none taken, it's an old camera and the photo is at high ISO for the time. My point was that a nearly 20 year old camera has image quality that competes with modern smartphones

Show those 2 shots to any regular person, and I guarantee they wouldn't be able to tell that one of them was taken with a smartphone. Pro cameras are ridiculously overrated in current times.

Retard normies still fight about Apple vs Samsung phone cameras like they're both not nearly identical. They truly believe in the power of "100x zoom" which is about 3 parts optical, on a periscope lens, then 97 parts digital processing.

oh, and since we are sharing photos, here's moon taken on said rebel (which nowadays can be bought for well under 100$)

Not bad for a broad daylight snapshit with no subject. Smartphones are good at wide-angle landscape photos but the second you need to actually take advantage of a specific focal length you're fucked. But have fun Dennis, that's what photography is all about.

phone photos look so fake

Just shoot in RAW

Noted, going to start looking these up, thanks friend

mirin' that camera hairdo fr fr

retard normies can't tell the difference between a snapshit from a $1000 phone and a camera setup you can build for $600

Sure, but there's no way your smartphone resolves that sort of detail on distant subjects. With a 300mm lens I can be 50 feet away and still get incredible detail.

Yeah, if you're taking photos of your garden. When the viewing medium is you showing them on a phone, they're definitely not going to tell the difference. Have two people shoot a reception: one with a smartphone and one with a camera and flash. See which set of photos are preferred.

I have a Blackmagic 4K (which is for film, but all the same) and honestly anything below $1K seems like a waste of money to me, but I'm not a photographer. Consider that you'd also have to buy lenses, and if this is the most expensive camera you've had I wouldn't think you'd have super nice lenses. I'd get the PS5 or continue saving money to get a really nice one.

my cat > your cat

I dont have a tripod so shooting at night is kinda hard. this was using my d300 and a 55-200. I get better pics attaching my phone to my telescope tho.

DSC_1854.jpg - 4288x2848, 2.51M

Micro four thirds will get you longer reach because of the crop factor, but you'll be dealing with worse quality images. The benefit of a smaller form factor is going to be lost as soon as you attach a 200mm+ lens on it anyway. Look for a used APS-C DSLR and a telephoto zoom lens to play around with.

I don't have a tripod

you can fix that issue for less than $50 anon.

dont know shit about photography

thread is more intriguing than majority of the sludge on this board

I see your cats and I raise you this feral guy.

events are super rare and you have to be good not just invested on the hobby.
talk about videogames and your chances to be invited to some online matches or even local are very high.

When Apple discovers how to rewrite the laws of physics so phones can absorb as much light with a tiny hole.

wtf I see the elden ring

bait or retarded?
me thinks both

The laws of physics are on team real camera is the short of it.

yeah, still good. I actually think 12-16 mpix was a sweet spot for that sensor size. more light per pixel

It is. He's just one of those trannies who refuse to adapt to new tech and keep shouting NEW THING BAD at people.

the plan was to get a T mount and use it on my telescope but the camera is too heavy for a 1.25in plastic focusing tube so Im just trying to get some use out of it. this one is at 55mm f4 iirc

DSC_1872.jpg - 4288x2848, 3.46M

I prefer console optimization

for a game not even released, sure, just say you dont wanna bother with PC.

The camera certainly has more games

bigger pixels

Uhh... So lower resolution.

I got a Nikon D750 a few years back and enjoy taking pictures of birds.

behold the simple brain of a retard who thinks that sensor sizes are fixed and larger pixels means fewer pixels

Nikon D5300 result. You don't need an expensive camera for that.

DSC0870_4000.jpg - 2000x3000, 2.5M

nooo my chinkphone can do better (no proof provided) and costs 5x as much, dslrs btfo!!!

D5300 is a dslr

ZVE10? Unless you're Vlogging your better off with any 6000er Alpha or Canon EOS (RP/8/whatever) -- the latter are super lightweight full-frame bodies. Considering you'd pick a ZVE10 you probably haven't held a proper camera before, so you won't mind the budget ergonomics/customability of the budget/entry level full-frame options of Canon either. You can get a complete full-frame DSLM kit for less than 1000$, much less if you buy used/refurbished.

Higher pixel pitch on a moderate megapixel body perform infinitely better than low pixel pitch on a high megapixel body. More pixels are worthless if they are smaller and thus collect less light -- it translates to more noise, especially in low light.
The best range (for budget and tech) is 24-33MP, all above either costs a fortune or perform significantly worse -- not to mention that you'll need excellent and expensive lenses for every beyond 33MP, which destroys your budget.

Bleh, pick the cheapest full-frame, a tripod and a good macro lens.

Going to the Zoo as an adult with a big fancy camera and plenty of time is a very underrated experience.

Attaching the image helps

Yeah, did that last year. Plenty of funny animal shots I got. Sadly co-worker I did shit with is making lots of dumb excuses not to hang out with me now so no Aquarium for me since too annoying to go solo.

lol

hhehehhehe
nevermind leaking, Anon Babble is just Anon Babble for cameras these days. legitimately unusable.

Daddy why is that fat weirdo with a plumbers crack 's phone so big?

You don't even need APSC. My daily carry is a 10 year old M43 and with good glass it still embarrasses modern phones- the glass is the real kicker. You're getting actual detail and sharpness, not what your phone thinks should be in the image after it upscales to 800 niggapixels and AI generates moon craters on a stoplight. Hell, for years I carries a now ancient Canon Powershot with a 1/2.3" CCD sensor that modern phones have finally surpassed and that little old point and shoot STILL holds its own because it has a good fucking lens attached and full manual settings plus RAW export.

I need the Vanilla ending so bad

The camera won't really help you take better photos unless you read and get inspired on composition and stuff first.

not a zoo but went to KSC, shit was lovely.

DSC_0411.jpg - 3216x2136, 1.3M

get a film camera

I don't do photography, so the camera does nothing for me.
I also play games, so the PS5 also does nothing for me.

Oh, wow. I understand the appeal of owning a fancy camera now.
