Man, I remember during the Mass Effect days, anons ripped the shit out of the fact that everyone just wanted basic human soldier, and people's tolerance for playing as xenos or having wilder ones in their party directly translated to only having playable humans and much of your team just being bipedal humanoids that often didn't even have all that unique characteristics.

Fantasy races usually have such strongly defined cultures that every individual ends up following a similar template, one that's usually not a good fit for a main hero role

multi-classing half-orc fighter/thief is honestly better. Sure it is slower but you at least can use thief skills before bg2.

For me it's a male human warrior 2H but modded to swing fast like I'm wielding a dagger so I can outspeed rogues and mages. Because 2H human warriors shouldn't have to have a hard time doing anything. Being the objective best form of character after all.

tbf what other DnD based game can you play as a githyanki? Also yeah everything is sanitized in bg3 but that is mostly the fault of being based on 5e.

The race I pick depends on what class I'm playing. Warrior classes are for big buff humans with horned helmets or whatever orc-type race they put in the game. Wizards I always pick the creepiest race or a really old looking human with a beard. Rangers = elves, et cetera. It's cliche for a reason.
