Sometimes I wonder. 500+ years from now, when our world is viewed as ancient, will future humans view video games from the 90s-2010s as incredibly valuable works of art because they were entirely made by humans and not AI?

1) Retro games are all you have time for. Typically retro games can be played in one sitting or were made to be played in short bursts anyway

2) You enjoy how they feel because it takes you back to a time when life wasn't shit. You can mentally transport yourself to your younger years through playing older games. Especially ones you never played.

3) You dislike modern gaming design philosophies and conventions. Gaming back then didn't have things "figured out" so the flaws and getting around limitations at the time actually give those older games more personality and charm to you. Plus they may just be fun to play in general.

I liked video games for kids when I was a kid myself.
Now as an adult I don't like those same games anymore.
Now I play almost exclusively fetish porn games.

The good I look towards is anything within indie titles.
I long gave up on AAA titles and even the AA smaller studio games you used to see in the PS2 era.
Im much more content with smaller people making "spiritual succesors" and "X-like" games that expand on what was good in the past but adding positive spins or just having focus towards gameplay without needing to beef up graphics that require a whole new rig.

Videogames are amazing, now. Way better than they used to be. You really gonna sit there and pretend Shark! Shark! Is better than Helldivers 2? Come the fuck on, bro. Writing was more commonly better back then because video game tech couldn't carry the day on it's own, yet, and if the writing was bad you'd never see it (confirmation bias).
I'd rather play a good, modern tech demo for 40 hours than read a fuckin book that's pretending to be a game for 15 or watch a movie that's not even really pretending for 6.
Tldr The game part of video games has never been better you just (probably) have bad taste.

I'll have to agree. The last AAA game I ever bought was Half Life Alyx when it came out and I remain cautiously optimistic about GTA VI. But other than that I've basically only played indie games for the past 10 years.

It is significantly easier, cheaper, and more likely to find a good game that released over 2 decades ago than it is to find a modern game that's good.
