Next Fest

I'm still working my way down the never-ending list.

file.jpg - 1920x1080, 338.94K

this one actually sounded kind of cool but it's VR headset only so oh well I guess. I actually know about other Canadiana games like this, if anyone cares, but they don't have demos.

file.png - 1919x1619, 511.52K

stop making these threads none of the demos are even out or bugfixed so it is even a more shit experience.

So this one had a demo before but I guess it's been updated a bit for the fest. I might try it again, but I liked the game well enough the first time so I might not. Anyway, it's a Parasite Eve-like, but they're not trying to recreate a PS1 aesthetic like the other Parasite Evelikes. It also appears to be doing the "dress-up" fad that has entered Survival Horror lately, where the female protagonist can get all sorts of different outfits.

I can name more dress-up survival horror and Parasite Eve clones if anyone cares.

no

Vanilla Beast: Mystery Kink advertises itself as raunchy comedy sort of like beavis and butthead or leisure suit larry.

I don't think I ever even liked those games to begin with, so why would I bother with a ripoff? but maybe others like it. It's kind of glitchy too. repetitive jokes. to be fair. beavis and butthead was nothing but repetitive jokes.

file.png - 2387x1197, 3.46M

I was debating whether or not I'd try this one, but then I heard that game theme song in the trailer that was clearly sung by the developer himself without much music training or talent.

file.png - 2846x1893, 3.22M

This one isn't technically Next Fest, since it's already been released. More of hidden gem territory since it's sub 20 reviews but has been released. Still, it has a demo and I know people are always looking for that old anime aesthetic, since it's so rare.

file.png - 1817x1163, 2.85M

this one's description actually sounds exactly like that mobile game roguelike, pixel dungeon, I think. Just this one is in 3D.

file.png - 2858x1507, 3.62M

the black people in this one look a little too black. there's other problems too. pass

file.jpg - 600x337, 112.26K

Legacy of the Fallen is dogshit, but dogshit in such a way it actually feels enthralling.
The gameplay is shit but you can leave the combat at any time and restore HP by resting so it's not even a problem.
There's a ton of AI slop imagery that wasn't touched or edited even once to make sense.
The writing is raw and unseasoned.
The setting makes you think it's about Greek mythology, until it introduces heaven and hell, until you explore more and you're actually somewhere in 1890s(?) America after slavery has ended and at the end of the demo you have to go to Greece after suffering a fuckup while your aunts battle Athena in Hell to rescue their little sister Medusa.
The scene gallery crashes on launch.
But the whole idea and the shenanigans that arise while travelling with your mom (daughter of Athena, masturbation addict) who is your party member is so fucking stupid it ends up to be sort of charming and fascinating (where else would you see your divine bikini-wearing mom appreciate you sparing an illegal slaver after he promised that he'll get better) and I may actually end up buying the game later.
Not one of my proudest faps, but you some-fucking-how manage to get attached to the characters so it sort of passes as a good thing.

decent enough demo, full game might be worth it on sale.

file.png - 1715x1879, 3.95M

Are demos updated already?

There were 2000 demos to begin with. I don't need an update, I'm still going through them, one by one.

pretty barebones as resident evil knockoffs go, most of the corridors and hallways are drab and empty. kind of like a pre-alpha aesthetic.

also "HADES" as a team name was already taken by a different RE ripoff game.

file.png - 2565x1295, 2.03M

I'm not into "parkour FPS' at all, but maybe some people are.

file.png - 2591x1323, 3.81M

saw some people talking about this one in the previous thread but it died before I could tell them:

it is not good. do not play. maybe one of the worst ones I played? the reload speed alone, good god.

file.png - 2601x1363, 3.66M

I hope we get some actual, genuine roguelikes.

most demos struggle for any reviews at all. How on earth did this one pull off 66 negatives? They're all in a foreign language though so I can't read what the problem was. Still, I don't think I'll play it.

file.png - 927x1235, 804.52K

Got through the reviews and the main problem is that it has negative levels of optimization, so it's practically unplayable. The demo is also bad as a demo as it doesn't actually show you anything that would make you want to play the full game.

I didn't like this one.

file.png - 2583x1339, 3.57M

this one took forever to start and then the window size was absurdly small for some reason. and it also poses the age old question of: If I wanted to play a rip-off of Ninja Gaiden, for some reason, why wouldn't I just go play Ninja Gaiden, which I never actually beat or even got past the first three screens?

file.png - 1955x1137, 2.31M

Perfectly Excellent Golden Idol rip-off. Wishlisted and onto the next demo.

file.png - 1603x2127, 220.77K

I know you guy's read books like you play games(that is to say, you don't) but this one starts off with a pretty obvious reference to Pollyanna.

Anyway, sort of belongs in the maybe pile.

file.png - 2613x1387, 2.56M

this one might be trying to create Resident Evil 2's scenario system. I'll try it and see.

file.png - 1789x1670, 1.43M

Thanks for letting me know, OP.
I've set up my rentry for this year rentry.org/bjsnf2025-2 but won't be filling it in until later since I'm working night shifts this weekend.

I'm going to try this one.

file.png - 2572x1057, 2.35M

these are mine, I autistically went through all games. there are a lot more, but the demos aren't up yet

absolute fvcking sovl

Yeah. Here's the games I expect to release a demo during the festival that will actually be good:

store.steampowered.com/app/2464280/Tormented_Souls_2/

store.steampowered.com/app/2880000/SSR_Wives_The_Murder_Of_My_Winter_Crush/

store.steampowered.com/app/2966510/Outlying_Island/

store.steampowered.com/app/3630640/Limb_Driver/

store.steampowered.com/app/3541490/Dancing_Bones/

store.steampowered.com/app/2469440/Martial_Law_Our_Spring/

No real reason to keep it secret, most people won't play games no matter what so.... there might be some more I'm looking forward to I just haven't thought of yet. Whatever. so for now it's just trawling through garbage. I found a good Myst Clone:

AI thumbnail

yes yes yes, fuck yes.

For a better experience, take a break every 30 minutes. Stop playing immediately if you feel unwell.

Honestly, I might very well prefer playing Bejewelled over doing typical dungeon crawler battles.

Though, I only got halfway through that RPG that did the same thing but with tetris.

file.png - 2595x1278, 3.09M

another off-the-wall obscure game. you play as a pot of soup

file.png - 2619x1274, 3.81M

looks too "busy" for me. I dunno. Maybe I'll try it later.

file.png - 1832x999, 2.64M

man you fags are really posting the absolute shittiest shit you can find huh? just aislop coomer games made in an afternoon. previous threads were better

It's just this one dude posting whatever the fuck he sees without trying it first.
I wasn't gonna bitch since the fest hasn't actually started, but I hope he contains himself they have actually tried.

contribute to the thread or perish, pussy boy

Most released games struggle to break the 50 review threshold, a demo doing that but with negatives is impressively bad.

I'm going to try them! It's a two part endeavor:

1. I scroll through the lists and download a whole bunch in one go
2. I play all the downloaded demos one after another.

anyway, fuck off retard, here's your two part endeavor flow chart in case you forget to be retarded, somehow:

1. don't play video games
2. bitch about it on Anon Babble

This one was a text-based game where you play as a 911 operator for paranormal activity.

enh enh. probably not worth paying money for.

file.jpg - 3840x2160, 659.19K

Nice job getting inflamatory towards someone who was mostly defending you, but go off king.
I've already made reccommendations in past threads, even recorded a video.

Personally, I only post a recommendation if I truly enjoyed it. If I haven't touched it or disliked it for any reason I move on to another.

Posting games that sucked is just as important as posting the ones that were good. but we're the presence of royalty here folks, this guy "even posted a video". someone has an unnaturally high opinion of himself.

I really wish Hell is Us would hurry up and release its demo

Posting games that sucked is just as important as posting the ones that were good

I disagree but I'm not telling you not to do that, just that I don't.
If you want me to be specific, the only negative directed towards you is I don't get anything from individual screenshots of a steam page with no first hand experience along with it.

Relax man, I'm here to play and talk about demos people have played. Your choice to seethe or not.

This one is actually really fucking good. Another Hidden Gem acquired. Excellent vocals and an original song on the title screen. Developer seems motivated and enthusiastic. Game obviously needs work, but it's early days for a solo developer.

another good game that looks just like the rest of the trash. if you're not trying out garbage, you'll never find the good stuff.

It's back

Hell yeah, best thread on this worthless board by far

it takes place exactly over my two weeks of holidays

Damn

Wishlisted
And I'll try that too, thank you for your service demo poster

Oh shit, Tormented Souls 2 is getting a demo? Cool.

Posting screenshots and games that suck as I find them is important to keep the thread alive since very few people actually play games. Aside from the purpose of also pointing out games that other people may enjoy even if I thought they were bad, and that I'm not just some poser who isn't into the spirit of the festival.

to keep the thread alive

Not him, but Next Fest hasn't even started yet
Threads will easily stay up once it gets going

A second original song plays when you beat the demo. neat. And there was a heavy metal song in the trailer.

file.png - 2827x1347, 349.07K

store.steampowered.com/app/3522540/Death_of_a_Dungslinger/
I just wish this had more content than a tutorial and 1 bossfight. Movement ontop of the ball could open up some fun stuff if the level design is any good, you can get some decent speed on a smaller ball.

keep the thread alive

Like the other anon said, I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm not just some poser who isn't into the spirit of the festival.

lmao, thanks for the laugh.

people pulling out all the stops to convince me to stop searching the rubbish heap.

If I willingly play tons of garbage, do you think anything you say will convince me to stop?

You don't refuse to post games you didn't like because you think it's a waste of time, you don't post games you didn't like because you're not playing any games.

ok schizo

This one did indeed have fluid platforming just as the description said, I just don't think I like platformers that much and this one was clearly going to get pretty hardcore in difficulty once you passed the tutorial.

file.png - 2614x1335, 3.36M

Posting games that sucked is just as important as posting the ones that were good.

Let's be real here, our time on earth is limited, we should be spending it on good things instead of bad ones. As long as he's doing his due diligence of playing the things and then being moral by warning others not to and therefore saving them their precious time then it's all good; if he's just posting shit for no good reason then he's wasting everyone's time, his included.

Tried drunken rogue, the concept is interesting but the game is just badly balanced. Early encounters way too easy and fills up your inventory with so much slop. Theres not much meaningful decision making either, you can pump stats any time you want and easily get 100% success

I tried to fast-forward through all the exposition and just get to the gameplay to see what it was like, because I hate getting partway into a mystery and then just getting cliffhanger, which a demo is guaranteed to do. 20 minutes of fastforwarding got me nowhere though.

Still, it's probably good. Wishlisted.

file.png - 2851x1679, 3.88M

wow I cannot believe how privileged these sluts are

file.png - 2407x1930, 2.78M

Anyway the voice acting in this game, well, it was surprising it had it at all, but it wasn't the girls, or even the main character, just some random dude had voice acted lines? I doubt he appears much after the prologue.

And the recordings sounded like they were done on a cell phone by the developer himself. Anyway, I suspect the game will have pretty deep gameplay like Succubus Prison, and the artwork is good for the scenes, but normal gameplay is just typical RPG maker.

Not sure if the AI is bugged but they never seem to get a good hand while im already in tenpai in my first few turns
They all get zero score at the end even after drawing their entire pool lol

What's the name of this?

city of voices

nvm, AI got hands later on with big ass scores
didnt get anything good while they scored 90k with a pure straight out of their ass

Enh. I tried it. It's exactly like it sounds. Bejewelled as a dungeon crawler. if you like dungeon crawlers and bejewelled, this'll be good for you?

It's like a WC3 custom game.
Also no way they've got the rights to this.

tutorial was easy to understand and you got to the action quickly. you just built the bare essential buildings and piloted your island right towards a pirate attack. game ran well.

file.png - 2589x1340, 2.89M

i did not do a good job of defending my space fortress but I got through it anyway
