Tatsuya Kando (The World Ends with You director) has departed Square Enix after 29 years

After how SE betrayed him by sabotaging TWEWY2, I am not surprised.

And nothing of value was lost.

Is that the game with the uglyass art style?

Nomura is art god you are pig

3 different times nonetheless.

I still think about how the only advertising square made for NEO was a public AR thing in the middle of covid. Even when they made an anime for the first game they didn't even use it to advertise the sequel.

japanese quitting their jobs

recession indicator

Still one of my favorite games

RIP but it's probably for the best.

I'm so glad Balan's marketing had more budget than TWEWY2, bros!

that's fine honestly, not every IP need to be milked. sometimes a singular game can come out, be good and that's that. the fact that we got a sequel at all is amazing, even if I generally don't like how the story played out in regards to retconning the original in favor of the switch port stuff

Balan Wonderland

I totally forgot about that shit, even forgot the farmer comes from there.

Good. Now SE can focus more on Final Fantasy and... uhm...

2 great games

no more

Le sigh...

They've got Kingdom Hearts? Which is going to be set in Shibuya outside the 104 building.

hey, two great games is two more than most series get

qrd?

Wasn't that already done in KH? Like the 3DS one.

they showed up in traverse town, so not quite the same but yeah the TWEWY kids did appear once already.

final fantasy, dragon quest, whatever A/AA budget games they have in the pipeline like Bravely as an example, Kingdom Hearts

no marketing

game only got three seconds on screen during SE's E3 presentation a month before release

PC version was EGS-exclusive for one year

Steam version was dropped without announcement right before P5 Royal came out on PC

ad posters deliberately hid the fact that it was also coming out on Switch

I get that they were done years apart, but it felt like the reveal for the dumb iOS port had more actual marketing and hype behind it than this

franchise

2 games

lol...

also coming out on Switch

Fun story about this. I remember walking into a store one day and seeing "The World Ends With You". I was like, oh, I've heard so many good things about this and got it, not realizing it was a new game and a sequel. Still loved it though

I still think it's funny how literally EVERYONE calls it Balan Wonderland when the actual title is Balan Wonderworld

if you haven't played the original yet I cannot recommend the original DS release over the switch port harder. the game really was made from the ground up entirely around the DS and it's unique hardware features, making it one of the most standout titles on the handheld.

Ba-LAN Wonder-LAN-d just has the same syllabic consistency, kinda like alliteration

Agreed, it's like the dev team was so retarded they couldn't even get their own game's title right

I know, kinda like the DS Zeldas. So many good things were accomplished with the hardware.

I wish 2 had done well. A remake of 1 in 2's engine would have been good, Final Remix fucking sucks.

ad posters deliberately hid the fact that it was also coming out on Switch

All it took was a lot of AAA and AA sales failures on the PS4-PS5 to finally convince SE to let go of their love for Sony and their hatred for Nintendo. I just hope they stop trying to cater to Sony's audience going forward because that's a dead end.

It's over...but still at least it got two good games

So many good things were accomplished with the hardware.

I hope you're not implying pic related was one of them. 90% of people solved that "puzzle" by accident

any remake of 1 that isn't on a device that has two screens isn't worth a shit. shame the PiiU scared Nintendo away from trying another console like it

Closing the DS screens to "physically" press the maps together is brilliant and I will NOT hear slander of it

That game was actually pretty good

it's amazing they let you have an internet connection in prison Naka-san

The TWEWY gang did show up in Dream Drop Distance with dialogue from Joshua implying that it wasn't just a version of him, but the same Joshua on a different vibe similar to his excursion to Tin Pin Slammer world. But I'm saying Sora's just straight up in the scramble in Quadratum.

I think the term is assonance? AP Lit was over a decade ago

It can't be him, a keyboard has more than one button

I know the PS2 era was a long time ago but during the PS2 era there basically lived as kings and Japanese companies are owned by old men with long memories.

kek'd

Square must be in trouble. In Japan you don't really leave jobs, especially a job you've had for 30 years. People literally work at the same company their whole lives. Square must be in real trouble

lots of oldheads are jumping ship from companies they've worked at for a big chunk of their lives. Itsuno bailed from Capcom, Kamiya bailed from Platinum, Mikami left capcom ages ago, etc etc.

Remaking FF7 wasn't the red flag for you? Years before they said they wouldn't remake FF7 unless they were really in trouble and here we are now more than a decade later.

He could have just been fired. I mean shit if Kojima can get fired by Konami what matters for a relatively small time director.

Plus he also could have gotten depressed and left don't forget Sakaguchi wanted to leave (and maybe kill himself) for years but Square made him stay till 2004 because they liked his name, so it's possible he's been wanting to leave since TWEWY 2 came out.

But I'm saying Sora's just straight up in the scramble in Quadratum.

And Nomura said he wasn't.

Dev's were always leaving square for being shit

Nomura could tell me the sun would come up tomorrow and I'd start buying coats and canned food.

Everyone is going to Nintendo

Not enough lovey-dovey vanilla fanfiction or porn art of Rindo and Shoka together

It's a shame because they really do have a nice dynamic, but I think the trouble is that they get so little time to themselves compared to Neku and Shiki. Gives you a lot less to go off of, especially when the events that do happen are full of timeloop fuckery.

This is still one of the best NEO TWEWY fics I've ever read
ao3 works/33198289/chapters/82423462
ao3 works/33197962/chapters/82422745

game requires you to play the previous one

only available on the DS

wow such a smart move

inb4 play the android version

I'm not installing any games on my crappy phone and I also don't want to install those bloated android emulators. Make it available on all platforms or you ain't getting nothing for me. Fucker.

It's on switch bro

only available on the DS

it was also on switch anon. in fact NEO is a direct followup to the new stuff the switch port added

Urgh, I really don't want to touch Switch emulators. I'll think about it.

the switch port sucks ass anyway, if you're going to play the original play it on a DS/3DS or don't bother. the game loses alot of the charm and identity on other platforms.

They should remake the first game in the style of two, would be a completely different game but still good as fuck because TWEWY2 was amazing

Sorta like Gba CoM > Ps2 CoM

but never ever now

wouldn't really work, and again it strips the identity of the original out. it's a real shame nintendo dropped the dual screen stuff, I'd kill for a new DS but the switch is here to stay it seems.

This. The more "talent" that leaves SE, the better things will get. Remember to never buy anything from Japan that decided that the "global" audience was more important then just making the same quirky games and being happy it reached across the pond.

In a just world they would reappropriate Wii U technology and let us have two screens for TV/Tablet again explicitly so we could get DS games back.
But we don't like in a just world.

Sega leaked talent like mad

Several flocked to Nintendo

Now it's Square the one leaking talent

On the good side; TWEWY now can be left alone, not everything needs to be sequelized. Now.. old FF team reunion at Nintendo when?

Extremely underrated

Honestly I'd take it. Hell if it turns out real interesting I might eventually try to get the original first game somehow.
But yeah, it's dead now Jim

All the talent left Square to make a mobile/browser gacha game. That's pretty much endgame for these top devs.

We can't say shit until the next FF comes to Nintendo.

He'll be the director of Persona 6

Persona but actually good

Persona pins

Shut up and take my money.

Imagine a Xeno game with, Nomura as character designer, collab with Uemasu with some tracks and Takahashi and Sakaguchi designing the game.

DQB director left SE like 2 years ago

We will never have DQB3 with a correct magic system.

Is criminal that SE underuse their talent

First time reading this
That's lame
DQB2 was so good on how it improved on literally every facet of the first one, and the story was just classic DQ stuff too

What a bummer

Sorry I didn't buy it because the casts look straight imported from westoid college club as opposed to Shibuya in first game. Squeenix think themselves so high and mighty fanservice is way below them so they can go fuck themselves.

No Shiki tummy no buy. Simple as.

Remove Nomura and you have solid gold right there.

They, like a lot of the older game companies, are just hiring gacha devs now sadly
