Anyone got any more games like Crypt Underworlds? Just big, schizo exploration games with loads of secrets?

LSD Dream Emulator is the original schizo exploration game

LSD is good but only partly scratches the itch. Similar effect with other LSD clones like Hypnagogia, they don't engage me enough.

Goblet Grotto

Looks interesting, will give it a go, thanks!

Why does it have Russian famiclone mascot from the 90s? Though I'm not entirely surprised, the guy who designed that mascot also made trippy animations and even one trippy videogame:

He's the big bad from the first game, Crypt Worlds.

crypt - underworlds

What the fuck there's a sequel to Crypt Worlds? When did it come out?

t8.png - 1500x1500, 1.46M

About a year ago, but there were a few betas released over the past couple of years. They released versions with and without the lighting from the beta, which I found to make the game much worse looking.

goffy.png - 2557x1602, 3.51M

nice vid saint

I remember playing Crypt Worlds like over 10 years ago and even back then I didn't really understand it.

Dandy-Dandy, everyone loves Dandy, Dandy! Everyone is playing!

knock yourself out

My only gripe is that there is no button to cancel your velocity, it's much too easy to fling yourself into the heavens with the trampoline piss and be stuck there for minutes.
Great list, thanks. Any in particular you'd recommend?

mall ghouls.jpg - 2559x1603, 1.09M

I don't think there's really a lot to "get", I just find it fun to explore and see what weird shit I can find.

chimeria.jpg - 2551x1597, 1.08M

Almost all of these games have been played by Vinny.

I keep thinking I've explored the entirety of an area only to stumble upon a secret, often with an entrance to yet another massive area.

Midnight Station

I'm very happy to see Anjin getting some recognition. That studio has had it rough pretty much since their inception.

try to look it up

just get roblox slop

Weird.

Untitled.png - 544x300, 24.74K

I like a lot of the designs but the dialogue just feels like a series of uninteresting non sequiturs.

dude CD-I Zelda Sr. Pelo random internet references lmao

Kill yourself.

Letting Anon Babbletards poison your mind this badly

Adding e-celeb voice actors just ruins your immersion.

Not really.
Especially when it's a single out-of-the-way NPC that is entirely optional.
Also, the entire ENA series is anything but immersive.

I merely mentioned two of the references in the game. ENA is not a schizo game by any means, it's a hodgepodge of contemporary memes and references for quirky twitter fags.

One of the first NPCs you encounter is very noticeably voiced by an e-celeb though, it took me right out immediately.

dratula.jpg - 427x768, 51.35K

very noticeably

As someone who doesn't consume Vsauce content and have seen maybe 3 clips of him, I had no idea until after the fact.
You're still not beating:

ENA series is anything but immersive

You're right, it's not immersive as that would actually take talent, something the lolrandumb creators of ENA are sorely lacking.

Still not beating:

>Letting Anon Babbletards poison your mind this badly

I've only ever seen positive discussion of ENA on Anon Babble, my mind is completely clean and my thoughts are my own, thank you very much.

game about mental illness

game dev is named "lilith"

Vane feels like they planned for a much larger game but left a lot of weird stuff around that instead of cutting out is just kinf of there.
OMORI also has this in some measure when you start exploring BlackSpace2

Vane.jpg - 600x900, 89.99K

Accurate on today Russia

That's the best feeling though. It's like the devs are tapping you on the shoulder mid-session being like "psst... you missed a spot." Had it happen to me last night, thought I'd cleared out the whole crypt, then found an illusionary wall behind a torch that opened a whole damn oubliette with its own miniboss and lore drops. More games need to reward curiosity like that. Makes exploration actually feel meaningful instead of just checklist garbage.

Jesus this area is massive.

More games need to reward curiosity like that

One of many reasons I like Minecraft custom maps. People who make them love tucking secrets all over the place.

Forgot pic.

Untitled.png - 1919x1006, 2.17M

Fly massively out of bounds, land on an out of bounds castle with an entrance to a secret level

Enter secret level, fall out of bounds again, enter an even more secreter level

Goddamn. It's relatively pretty here compared to the rest of the environments.

secret hills.jpg - 2562x1597, 1.04M

Last post, hopefully someone else has been intrigued enough to try out the game, it saddens me to see it go unnoticed.

filth witch.jpg - 1564x1461, 291.28K

I downloaded it, I've just been slow to wake up.

It's helpful to piss on crates to get items when you're first starting out.

Vane seems to have a lot of bad reviews, worth it just for the experience?

This looks like Cruelty Squad if it was actually as schizo as its fans think it is.

NTA but it's UBER schizo
I've even played through the devs other stuff
It's true unfiltered schizocore

Crypt Worlds guy also made the Mueseum of Dead Wifery

huh, that makes a lot of sense actually

deadwifery.jpg - 3840x2160, 655.33K

Cruelty Squad is plenty schitzo, tho?

Retard.

dilate

Take meds.

Is Vinny becoming the next Jerma, a patron saint of mentally ill troons? He is the quintisential söylennial after all.

he's the next Protonjon.

E-celeb bullshit

Fuck off

Frogposts aren't people.
Don't treat them as if they were people.
Let them croak as loud as they want and ignore them.

Came across this little game called Strawberry Cubes. The only way I can describe it is really fucking weird.
There's also Cement Mixer Simulator 2003, it's pretty short, and unfinished from what I heard, but fascinating nonetheless.

strawberry.png - 953x530, 47.23K

How deep does Strawberry Cubes go? I remember seeing gameplay ages ago and being put off by the art style.

Hernhand and Bernband are nice. Also look into Yume Nikki fangames, a lot of them are slop made by amateurs but maybe you'd be into it. Yume 2kki and .flow are a must.

been and

Looks kinda empty, why is this game so praised?

images-77.jpg - 640x480, 29.82K

It's not super amazing but its something that's related to what OP asked for. I thought it was alright for a game about walking around and looking at things. It's definitely on the simple side.

I believe I haven't seen that much of it yet honestly. The game is a big interconntected labyrinth with hidden mechanics and dynamic elements it never explains to you, and most of the time I just end up running in circles.
I'd say it's worth trying just to see how strange you can make a game to be.

Thanks, just the description and appearance reminds me of La-Mulana for some reason

oh shit I didn't know there was a crypt worlds sequel!!!!

It actually exists? I thought this thing was dead in the water like 8 years ago?

It's completely free as well, if you ignore the guys who funded the Kickstarter. Neat.

and tips their hat

There's definitely some similarities, the game is one big puzzle maze that only gives you the vaguest of hints.

You can piss out cowboys in this one.

Any recs? I wanted to some exploration in MC, especially with friends.

Should I be playing the bedazzled version?

If you like the way the lighting looks, sure. I don't know if there's any other changes besides that.

oh neat!!
*and tips their hat*

I can immediately recommend that one I just posted, Ragecraft 4.

Newest release from a long-standing creator of maps in this sub-genre (CTMs, which can almost all be found on the CTM Repository)

Pretty modern game version

Tons of custom loot, enemies, terrain, crafting system, etc.

I'll avoid spoiling most of it, it's an absolutely fantastic map.
As for older stuff..

From the guy who started the genre (have some design quirks, but are still quite good)

Kaizo Caverns, Legendary, Inferno Mines

The early period (various creators, some collabs, some custom loot, heavily "held back" by early Minecraft version limitations)

Pantheon, Titan's Revolt, From Ashes, From Flames, Ragecraft 1, 2, and 3 (3 is just called The Prophecy)

Modern (various creators, lots of new features that aren't found in vanilla at all)

Divinity's End, The Trials of Beldroth, Final Paradox, Lenta Fortuna.
Pretty much everything on this page:
ctmrepository.com/index.php?action=popular

Thanks anon, these are exactly what I'm looking for. I only ever played that one Hogwarts map so I'm interested in seeing what actually good and focused Minecraft maps can offer.

Yeah, CTMs have been a staple of my gaming experience for like 15 years now.
They're wildly underrated and while the history isn't super interesting, it has a robust past as various creators rose and fell, the big collabs happens, Vechs practically disappeared into his private echo chamber, there's even a hybrid MMO CTM server called Monumenta, which I probably should've put on the list. Although in recent years, it's leaning more into the MMO and less into the CTM dungeon crawl aspects.

There was that sewer rats game, plus everything here:

What exactly are you looking for then? LSD and its clone by their nature are kind of just supposed to be walking sims.
