This claude is more efficient at crucial things. Underground tunnel traversal is one thing. Yes, that matters. It greatly increases his chances of getting to route 9 even if he struggles viewing visible cut tiles. It is still relatively early in this Claude's life to be pretending like he has no chance of passing when we've seen signs of improvement in many areas, as well as the dev's account that Claude can in fact solve the route 9 puzzle and made it over to Celadon.

It comes down to people being impatient, as well as this Claude moving at a slower pace. As it stands, he's still in a good position to cut over to route 9, all flash shenanigans aside. I think if he wants to find Flash, he can also do that faster than the previous Claude. His chances of getting stuck in Mt. Moon are reduced even with dig in hand. His chances to find route 9 are increased. Each day he's actually been able to accomplish quite a lot, and has already done some unique things the previous Claude was unable to do, such as carry out a trade to get a pokemon that can learn Cut in pretty snappy time. His bicycle sidequest was also much quicker, and this one so far is less prone to riding his bike around mindlessly. To me it's clear we're dealing with a different Claude, a more focused one. Yes he makes retarded mistakes, but he breaks out of them quicker. All in all he is much more efficient and I have no reason to believe he can't eventually solve route 9 or that he'll get endlessly stuck in the same loops as the previous Claude.

But he needs to not lobotomize and actually remember this when he gets to the route 9 tree

The thing is with Jr though is he forgot all about route 9, and was never able to diagnose where he was supposed to go. The only reason this one wanted to go to Mt. Moon was to get pokemon for Flash. It's not going on some wild goose chase. It knows that route 9 is the way to Rock Tunnel. The previous claude could NOT diagnose that. This one has its eye on the prize. It WILL find its way back to route 9. Claude Jr didn't give a fuck about route 9 after his first attempt. This one is still hot on the trail and I believe he's gonna keep coming back because unlike Claude Jr, this one can use underground tunnel. That makes traveling from Vermillion to Cerulean much much easier. The fact that Claude Jr was so retarded he COULDNT use underground tunnel meant he made up random sidequests to go through diglett cave -> viridian instead. This one traverses between Vermillion and Cerulean like it's nothing, and the underground tunnel takes you out right on the path that leads to route 9, so yes it's very important. Also this Claude beat Mt. Moon in like 3 hours. Even with Dig, I don't think he gets stuck either way.

Here's the previous milestones for benchmarks. This claude is way ahead of 3.7's old best. Claude took 60K steps to clear SS Anne, 118K steps to finally get flash and eventually died around what, 800K steps? It is way too early to start doomposting especially when he was THIS close to getting to route 9 and STILL wants to get to route 9 right now.

Just the ability to instantly recognize HM objects is enough. Besides them, Claude has proven capable of overcoming the rest (barring the greatest obstacle that is Safari Zone, of course), no matter how long it takes and how many retard episodes he falls into. He doesn't need more than that.

I doubt it. The dev gave him a hint that passing thru Mt. Moon to get to Cerulean City is "simple and straightforward" and we all know how that went: he did a 180 right after grabbing the fossil and went back to the entrance.
He simply can't make sequential logical decisions. The only reason he made it out of Mt. Moon this time was because he accidentally went back in, thinking he was going the wrong way, and instead of going back out to continue the loop, he got lost and kept going west and then eventually north, unintentionally going the right way out of Cerulean.
Claude does not even know there is a west/east Route 4 and an entrance/exit to Mt. Moon. If he ever manages to go back to Route 4, we might be stuck forever because he won't randomly explore to hopefully make it out, and he will just use Dig.

Well let's see his current major issues
