This is an annoying situation on multiple levels because the timing of the retarded tariffs gives people an excuse to say "It's not Nintendo's fault, it's because of that" but I honestly think the success of the Switch has made Nintendo cocky enough that they would have gone with this price point anyway. And then to add insult to injury is the brazen attempt to kill physical games, you can tell it really pisses them off that people are still buying physical over digital so they just straight up make physical cost more to try and force people to go digital, eventually leading to an excuse to not make physical copies at all.

The one sign of hope I see is that Nintendo has gone through this same cycle twice before. They got overconfident due to the Wii's success, the Wii U bombed. Similar with the DS to 3DS, although they did a panic price drop real quickly on that and it ended up being successful. It seems like Nintendo never actually learns, they always think they're invincible and need to be taught the same lesson over and over again. Let's hope that's what happens here.

MUH TARIFFS

Buying an N64 in the 90s was the equivalent of spending about the same as a Switch 2 today when adjusted for inflation. That shit was almost $200 when it released. Games were absurdly expensive and you'd remember that if you weren’t a zoom zoom.

drop the price

So prices SHOULD stay static forever?

no, not like that! nitnendo are my fwiends!!!

And to quickly add to this, wages not matching inflation rising is not the fault of tariffs.

Video games are a want, not a need. They’re a luxury item. If you had a minimum wage job and were smart with your money you could easily afford a Switch 2.

the tariffs omg the tariffs

yeah it's annoying, the $450 price tag for the console is the only justifiable thing about it, it's the digital non-tariff'd games that are too expensive

but I honestly think the success of the Switch has made Nintendo cocky enough that they would have gone with this price point anyway

No shit. These prices were almost certainly planned for years. They made it obvious where they were going when they priced ToTK at $70. All the screaming about tariffs on here yesterday was just a very obvious attempt to change the narrative and shift the blame away from Nintendo.

The N64 was also a crushing failure that Nintendo has never fully recovered from. Even when they're successful nowadays, they still aren't the default platform of choice like they were pre-N64, that's how much damage that generation did to them. If that's your argument *in favor* of what they're doing with the Switch 2, you need to go back to the drawing board.

How quickly you fell, from crying about egg prices to saying "actually high prices are good now!!"

? I don't remember the N64 doing badly at all. The Gamecube was where Nintendo started to sink. Then it seems like they go between success and failure every other gen.
