Starsector is honestly one of the best games in the past 20 years.

I'm not really interested in the colonizing space exploration stuff. I find it rather boring. I wish the core systems were much larger with more Independant colonies and Factions with their own minor skirmishes and plots going on among the big politics.

On top of that the Second AI War was only 10 cycles ago in the timeline which fucked things even further than before so not many people have the opportunity to go beyond the core worlds without backing from the main factions, who are all dickwaving eachother in their fight over the remaining resources available. John Starsector is a freak though, not denying that.

The coolest one is the XIV Legion. 4 fighter bays, 5 medium ballistic mounts for pewpew, 2 large missile mounts so you can shove 2 Hammer Barrage into them just go "Fuck whatever exists in that general direction". Extra bonus points for having a simple yet effective active ability called Burn Drive which actually allows this lumbering hunk of metal to properly enter engagements at a reasonable speed unlike the slow gay nigger shit like Paragoy or Pegasissy who spend 60% of the fight trying to reach it in the first place.

side topic on this, if you guys are carrier spamming how do you decide or set up what fighters you’re gonna use? Outside the first few hours of the game, interceptors seem like they struggle big time against anything that has beam PD or Flak. Bombers seem like the only reasonable option later game as they’re the only craft capable of getting lucky and punching a big hole in something. Craft i’ve tried are

great range so I put them on cheap backline carriers like condors or drovers, but their small wing size means they get pretty easily picked off by any PD and they struggle against destroyers+

Check log files for gpu and in windows admin tools>event viewer. The launcher prob runs a conflicting version of whatever vs your drivers. I had soemthing similar happen with a launcher for like shogun 2 or some shit. Have you not.updated or rollback ed your drivers when this started happening

most effective fighters are only the remnant one due to the combination of numbers/toughness/lack of crew death. You have to use some combination of longbows/explosive bombers for an effective carrier fleet and you still need something that can actually pressure things shields and take out frigates.

Regular legion is better due to sheer flexibility of the build possible. Lean on fighters? Sure. Lean on heavy ballistics? Sure. Have some cyclones up front? Sure. Have a ballistic rangefinder railgun brawler with devastators or helbores? Can be done.
Have a hulltank with hungering rifts or shitout swarms to cover your bombers? Dunk on idiots with dual gauss sniper or completely neuter threat with dual devastator? XIV can't do that.
