the original concept for the dream partner is that it was a unique tadpole enticing you and seducing you, it was a very neat concept and also had consequences to the tadpole power system cause you would effectively bad end yourself using the power. But I think they couldn't find a narrative reason for that to work past the first act and the powers they were giving in the beta for using it fucking sucked.

It was the most effective way at getting a player in theory to make something they're attracted to and find hard to disagree with. They were just trying to do too much with it initially because it also played a role similar to Sceleritas with her encouraging you killing her and others because originally the tadpole had something to do with bhaal as well with all the origin characters hinted to be bhaalspawn in the beta. I think they took too much away from it with powers being free of consequence and divorcing the bhaal aspect from it and ended up doing nothing with a relatively interesting mechanic.
