Depends on your build.
Melee attack up, ranged attack up, Potential up depending if your primary source of damage is melee/ranged/TP arts.
Generally, you'll want to craft 4 Appendage Crushers (it can stack up to 5 times, but you can wear an eyepatch for your 5th), leaving 2 slots open on your weapons, meaning you don't have to craft more than 2 Melee/Range up augs since they go on weapons. Potential augs go on armor so you can craft more.
Crafting an annul [insert element] reflect augment will be necessary for some superboss, most end-game builds are based around Ether weapons. If you plan on taking Luciel on on foot without one-shotting it, you'll need 3 Topple resist XX augs to not get topplelocked. Crafting one sleep resist XX aug can be useful if you plan to run Telethia Plume.
If you want an end-game Skell builds, you might want to craft Ultrafauna slayer and Ether/Gravity resist augments.
Generally, to get you started, Overdrive duration augments can be good. If you don't have TP up gear, you might want to craft augs for it so you start at 6k TP.
Overdrive counter up and Overdrive:gain TP augs can lead to fun meme builds where you spam the Overdrive button until you're at max count.

I'd play 3 last, especially its DLC, since its ending seems to build towards whatever the fuck the next Xeno game is gonna be.

If it were me I'd ditch the gacha entirely for giving every rare blade an intro quest + some other way to obtain commons.
Speaking of the pity system, the og is also bugged and you cannot ever roll the last pity group, doubling the chance of you rolling the first instead.

yeah, but while XBX DE gives me some hope that an XB2 rework can really fix field skill checks one way or another, the gacha system is even backed into the story of XB2. I can't see it going away. I do wish the rare cores at minimum came from special stuff in game like Kassandra or Sheba, if not full outright quests like Theory and Praxis. But I do realize the latter is asking an awful lot.
And yeah, I know about the pity bug, but I want a real pity system, so I don't care about fixing that bug since I think the existing one should be scrapped.

My really big asks are that they patch in NG+ into XBX DE. I'm not expecting it, but they did patch it in later for 2 so it's not completely out of the question.

Not a full open world, if you can explore anywhere then you either have to randomly lock off areas which ruins the point, or have weird story moments where characters pretend not to have seen something, despite the player maybe going there before. Alternatively you can have alternate cutscenes for it the player finds something before the story happens but that'd be way too much work for a game as big as Xenoblade. I wouldn't mind smaller "open" areas though, like what the series has been doing just still more exploration focused

Covering all bases completely is impossible, iirc, but secondary cooldown astral projection puts you at 50% for all elements. Stack armor and augs on top of that. Like you can line up armor types to just get positives by canceling out negatives. I think I did it once and had 40 electric and 20 grav and 0 on everything else. Also, your right and left arm can roll resist traits on them if you farm ultra infinite, and those can cap out at 25 additional for two elements. Then you can add augs on top of that. I think it's possible to cap out 4 or maybe 3 + 1 at 95 resist that way.
I'm sure someone can do a particularly efficient setup.

The easiest ones are the segments that you complete just by opening a chest.

Is there an effective way to heal in this game??
Irina barely heals my party as an NPC and personal patches are hard to come by.
I looked at battle commands and there's no option for prioritize healing. It's only in soul voices where you can increase healing chances.

Every quest is a Skell license quest

If you need self-healing, there are several auras for that on almost every weapon.
For party heal it's really just making your Irina(or Doug, or L) stronger. Healing arts scale off potential with few exceptions, so give her full specs and energy source too other than gear to increase potential.

Scales off of potential. Check the shop to see if you have C&C armor available with potential yet. If not you'll have to develop your AMs for a bit.

He reflects everything, but you can craft annul-reflect augments for Skell weapons, so just craft augs for the attributes you use.

Take the Photon Saber pill and use Astral Heal.

BLADE Tower is just a giant Big Ben which plays some ominous bongs at the end of each chapter cutscene

In terms of word-building and lore, definitely 2. Alrest feels a lot more like a cohesive, lived-in world than any other world in the series.
In terms of sidequests, X wins hands down. In terms of main character writing, it's a toss up, but I'd give it to 3. Main plot... yeah it's still 1.

Sad to say but it's 3. Come chapter 3, my love of exploration, sidequest completion autism and desire to challenge and win against superbosses above my level ensured I became and remained overleveled for the literal entire rest of the game. 3 would have GREATLY benefited from the ability to level yourself down from the start, not just in post-game. Also its chain attack system is so unfathomably OP and easy to use, they basically turn every fight into a turn-based game where it's always your turn until the enemy dies, which just isn't fun.

2, I love Alrest. Characters, combat, music and general atmosphere are all peak.

Tough. I'm torn between 1 and 2. I love the characters from both, and the world building.
I liked the moments in 2 where characters actually observe the world and do introspection, and I prefer the messaging in 2, so I say overall 2. Villains are pretty good too.

An overdrive build where you equip augments for gaining like 2000 TP and 30% HP on activation, and arts to focus on TP generation, is one way to go about it.
Lets you stay in infinite overdrive and recover HP at a 1000 TP cost.

I haven't taken a proper look at builds but I'm having a good time with Long Swords + Assault Rifle, which I also stuffed with Appendage Crusher / Ranged Appendage Damage augments. I could easily see NLA people as being friendly towards the xbc trilogy people, and find it tricky for MS to somehow make them antagonistic.

Though with the "invaders," I really think the old humans that peace'd out to space pre-experiment would be a better fit. Easy source of their motivation would be reclaiming their planet which blipped out of existence thousands of years ago. Some of those remnants could still have Saviorite rebels, and they have a deep-rooted hate for the whole planet's disappearance perhaps. Something like that would be pretty interesting imo. Remnants of the Saviorites behaving like the Ganglion sort of stuff.

Does anyone else feel bad that you can’t connect everybody on the affinity chart no matter what you do? Like the Miralife trading card quest forces you to leave at least one person without any affinity links and for the route I took it’s Capsica who stays forever alone

X is more or less a standalone spin-off to the regular Xenoblade series, so you can start with it if you want an open world exploration RPG with giant robots.
The major sidequests and story missions are all voiced, but otherwise you WILL have to read a lot, even if just to understand the depth of the combat mechanics and because X is a game that puts a lot of world building into its minor, non-voiced sidequests.

Otherwise, if you want more standard, linear JRPG fare, start with Xenoblade Definitive Edition (the remaster of the first Xenoblade). Again, only the major story events are voiced, but sidequests are a lot less important in Xenoblade 1 so you can mostly get through by mashing A through them if you don't wanna read.

I really dislike how 2 becomes a corridor simulator starting from chapter 7, it's anti-Xenoblade and feels like they ran out of development time and had to rush you from plot point to plot point Xenosaga Episode III-style. 3 also has a bit of this with the long-ass cutscene sequence in chapters 5 and 6, but you still have a ton of quests to do in Erythia, the City and Keves Castle town afterwards so it balances out.

Sidequests won't open up until after Chapter 3 when you choose your division. Affinity quests won't open until after Chapter 4. Cutscenes do add a bit of playtime to your counter.

X is more similar to western RPG, in a sense, where you actions do have an affect, especially during sidequests. Some will have you talking to someone and based on your action (and if you have a certain item) NPCs will either live or die. Some quest even have two routes depending on what you do.
