All the Rare references we've seen in the short amounts of gameplay we've seen make me think that the "legacy Donkey Kong" mindset that Retro was pressured to accept is totally dead at Nintendo.
At this point the Rare Donkey Kong has been who he was for 75% of his existence, and it seems like most younger people there feel that way too. There probably was a push to down play Rare stuff back when Microsoft bought them but it seems like it's dead

King K. Rool (キングクルール, King K. Rool) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He was announced as a newcomer during the August 8th, 2018 Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct alongside Simon, Richter, Chrom, and Dark Samus. King K. Rool is classified as Fighter #67.

country secondaries still seething

It's weird that they made a whole deal about echo fighters and then only ever added a couple while keeping most of the clones as separate fighters.

Who is that woman above him?

seems like nintendo’s mindset has gone from

we do not give a shit about dkc, just do spinoffs

to

okay, we’ll let one of our third parties make more dkc but none of that kremling shit

to

okay, maybe dkc and the kremlings were actually pretty good but we wanna make a few changes if we’re gonna be the ones making the games now

I think it was to tell us loud and clear that they don't consider some "clone" characters like Captain Falcon and Luigi to be clones

Some of them like Roy and Chrom they did give minor moveset variations which is apparently justification for being a separate fighter
Agreed with that it's just a delineation between 100% clone or "very similar but not identical moveset"

That's what I think too. Bananza is them trying to build a new Donkey Kong brand to put everything together and establish a new North Star for the series. Pauline, Kremlings, Tropical Freeze pigs, they want all of it in this so they can make it "new"

Kill all mass repliers.

I swear the odyssey team was visited by three ghosts because looking at jungle beat’s rare dk content vs just fucking super mario odyssey’s rare dk content is night and day, new donk city referencing a dkc character with each one of its streets and diddy kong even being a costume for mario to wear… which thinking about it, would make a possible absence by diddy all the weirder

It's a game for toddlers, grow up already.

i just finished dkc2 again
diddy's in this. i can feel it. dixie too.

Diddy's gotta be in it. They gave him a very minor redesign and put in a bunch of chimps that look like him

Was just killing time yesterday morning and started playing DKC2 as well. So damn good.

Captain Falcon came before Ganondorf. Ganondorf is the "clone".

I didn't click it since the design on the cover was so ugly

they want all of it

I hope that's the route they're taking, that would be nice.

I can't wait to play this game

Let's face facts: Gimptendo doesn't give a F about you, your childhood, or your future.

DK getting a sun wukong SSJ transformation would be kino

Rob Ager level schizo

lol so melodramatic

It's blue arms but on a larger scale of autism

Could K Rool be redeemed?

Honestly never expected this from dkfags

Hype responsibly

One of these mf'ers is going to off himself if K.Rool isn't in the game at this rate

I'm 100% certain that K.Rool is behind VoidCo

Who was the Jannetty?

Are we ready for Mareach to retire?

Amazing how he’s had Trophy since Melee

his brother, Kaptain K. Rool

What?

chris chan was right tho and sonic's arms weren't blue again. youre on the wrong side of history

You can pretty much tell some echos got more than others did

The whole shit felt like an excuse to sneak another Marth Clone into the game

Falcon was built off Samus’ model in Smash 64, hence why you fight him on the Zebes stage when unlocking him

You fight Ness on Dreamland because Hal also worked on Earthbound

One thing I do miss from previous Smash games was how nearly every series got a new stage. Ultimate didn't add many new stages because they prioritized bringing back as many old stages as possible (for better or worst as some stages can feel redundant or blend in with others) while also giving them design overhauls to have more graphical consistency in the game.

Majority of the new stages were added with a DLC fighter as well, so it mostly ended up being new stages from new series and a few from returning series, with Zelda being the only series in Ultimate to receive a new stage without receiving a new fighter. Pokémon also didn’t get a new stage but received a new fighter.

lanky kong : (

Can we please discuss the upcoming Mario lore?

omg pauline's lips look so kissable.

Reminder that it's Tanabe who is to blame for the absence of K. Rool and Kremlings. In his usual contrarian nature he vetoed them from Returns and is also creative director for Super Nintendo World.

We already know that you collect fossils of enemies throughout the series, and they unlock throwback DK Country sidescrolling stages. What more do you want faggots? this is a huge fucking game, the best DK game ever.

No one at internal nintendo development was nostalgic for rare vs late 2010s nintendo and now
Hyle Russel had the scoop.

I kinda theorize that echoes didn't really have any concrete plan past what characters to add. If they could be slapped onto a character as a skin and still look at least okay enough, it'll do. Any further changes made were probably spontaneously made as someone thought of it, during whatever downtime they were able to between other tasks.

Sakurai is a lorelet.

and they unlock throwback DK Country sidescrolling stages

Is that what they unlock?
