Why the fuck are you still gaming on Windows?

Why the fuck are you still gaming on Windows?

sorry for being based

is this one of the many various dysfunctional linux distributions or is this something else?

Sanitised soulless corporate logo

Because for some reason, despite dualbooting CachyOS and tweaking the settings for 5 hours, I can't get past 30 fps for Resonance of Fate. And both Anon Babble and Anon Babble have been super unhelpful with their suggestions

why are you seeking help on Anon Babble boards
are you genuinely that stupid

Because my other options are either making a discord or reddit account, and Anon Babble is the least of the bad option

muh wiki

I troubleshooted with the wiki for almost 2 hours, and they tell you jackshit on how to bump up with fps. Even YouTube has been super unhelpful

i switched back to windows when BOTH rebirth and monster hunter wilds could not run well on linux
you can still play most games there fine tho

free online multiplayer

Because of shit like this.
Make a functional OS that allows me to play a game without having to scour the internet for a solution to some fresh jank that I wouldn't have to deal with if I just used windows.

Because it is always easier to install windows and disable the annoying features of it than it is to use any other OS and deal with compatibility issues.

download and install linux

1080p videos and streams are choppy

find the solution in some reddit thread with 3 replies, turns out the video codecs dont come pre-installed with the OS and you have to do terminal autism

internet speed is at 5mbps when it should be 200

after 2 days of trying different solutions find the solution in an arch linux forum post with 0 replies, have to edit some random file in some random folder and restart

closing the laptop lid while laptop is connected to a 2nd monitor wont actually suspend the laptop

find solution in some reddit thread with 2 replies

have to edit some random file and do some terminal autism

linux will never catch on

Because I buy local

I'm from Washington state lol

Because framerates are lower. Simple as.
Also I nees to use fractional scaling and on linix mint 125% made games start in 1800p making my gpu scream

gaming on linux would make me switch back to console

bad distro, genuinely
linux mint is the recommended distro for nooblets, everyone keeps trying to jump into arch or some niche shit like cachyos or nobara or whatever and then wondering why they have to use the terminal all the time

it's fedora

You could've just said "yes" instead of typing out all that. Good luck in life anon!

it just works and i dont care if the jews want to watch

Because Linux sucks ass

Just say Linux sucks for gaming man. No need to cope

Why are you playing that shit game lmao
You don't deserve Linux faggot

Linkeks have no taste in good games

I knew it

Linux is based because it's a filter for dogshit
If the program cannot run on Linux it's always inferior to one that can, or is simply too terrible to be supported
There are zero examples to the contrary

Shitty vkd3d performance on nvidia
More of a hassle since games and most launchers don't run natively and cracked games would be questionable with WINE

Foobar2000 is one of the very few music players that lets you mass download LRC synced files. I doubt Linux has an alternative for it

Foobar doesn't work in Linux? Holy fuck that OS is trash

solid workstation os but i wouldn't recommend it to people just trying to play games away from windows.

that being said i'd try it again if it wasn't for the performance issues
i've heart RT performance is worse too even on AMD

foobar not having a native linux version is a developer issue, not a linux issue.
at any rate, it works fine in wine.

Press button

Play game

It's that simple. Maybe if steamOS takes off I'll make the switch, because I like the experience on my deck

I game on FreeBSD.

because it's not October...
Not yet.

imag.jpg - 300x168, 10.15K

I'm already on Linux
It's a tool to manage and run non Steam Windows games on Linux. It makes things piss easy.
I use Arch and I never had this problem. But tbf KDE downloads vlc automatically. I doubt if codecs are still a thing. They're built-in in KDE and mpv aren't they?

yep same, once my 2070 craps out I'm going full red.

foobar not having a native linux version is a developer issue, not a linux issue.

at any rate, it works fine in wine.

You idiots really are fucking clueless. Why do you think it is so common that native linux ports of games perform worse/stop working after a while vs. running Windows versions in wine? Win32 and DirectX are more stable even in Linux.

Does anyone here play the division 2 on Linux with Lutris and ubisoft connect? Game crashes for every 20 mins or so.

Because devs are shitty and lazy. They should just put the proper .so files like how they do with dlls. HL native port was fucking broken because of a shit version of sdl2 .so file. They fixed this in the anniversary edition. On MS side they globally do the same with DirectX that perfroms worse than before which is why older games have better performance with wrappers even on Windows.

Foobar is outdated trash, grandpa

The linuxfag defense flowchart

pick another distro

did you use this experimental switch on beta version 6.66 that was installed on a blue moon using a VPN that was connected to the Maldives? Keep in mind it's only stable so you'll just have to be ok with corrupted skyboxes and frame drops but it totally works bro

why does your pc have this hardware

why did you want to play this game

it works on my machine anyways

I swear it's just as fucking infuriating as the solution to everything windows related being uhhhh sfc scannow uhhhhh reinstall windows well you're shit out of luck bye bye

I'm not, though valve needs to get off their asses and release a standalone desktop only version of steamOS because nvidia drivers are good now. It would be trivial to do, it's just the same steamOS without the automatic game mode and it starts in desktop mode.

Lutris pisses me off because it gets artwork from lutris.com and not steamgridDB which is far superior. Steam proton is great, and protontricks flatpak just werks as a GUI to manage prefixes. For example the GOG version of star wars runs flawlessly on linux, but it's missing some directx9 dlls that you have to install before the game will run.

That's why I use steam for all my games, and then just use boilR for importing games with artwork. You can just use the GOG mini galaxy preset, and it works for most GOG games. For non GOG games you can still add them to the mini galaxy library, you just have to copy over a gog info file from a gog game. It doesn't even care about the build ID for the game in the json file you copies, all it searches for is the name and .exe so that's all you have to replace for it to find the name on steamgridDB and recognize it.

linuxgame.png - 892x789, 130.32K

Name one example. A real scenario that happened

You also forgot

you're not smart enough for Linux

the software/game is shit anyways

I made several threads on two or three I was trying to use and run games because I wanted to switch OS. Literally, half of the thread replied with what this anon had mentioned and the other half stopped replying once I explained my problem in fuller detail

So what problems have you had with Linux? Apart from multilayer games that have kernel level anti cheats I haven't had any problems with any games I've tried.

NTA but I've been trying to run Resonance of Fate for almost two weeks now. I've tried Mint, CachyOS and Nobara. I've tried Lutris, Steam, Heroic and default Wine. I have a 4070 and 13th gen i7
The game works flawlessly on Windows. On any of the distros and launcher, the game works at 60 fps if I set it to x2 and 1080p. The moment I bump it to x4 and 2k, it doesn't go past 31 fps, and in other cases it dips to 27 fps

My post is apparently spam

Give this thread another hour and you'll get "why do you have a Nvidia card" and the experimental fix bullshit.

file.png - 297x191, 7.27K

This logo looks like poo and pee

im not so braindead i believe i can become a woman

Nvidia was broken on both Windows and Linux with the 530s drivers. Their drivers can be ass sometimes universally. I have no issue on Linux now.

KNEEL TO THE LINUX GODS

tuxchad.png - 293x326, 44.41K

>I have played the entire game with 1080p

>the Windows issue is largely address by switching Shadow Buffer from 4X to 2X

Okay, good to know that I was doing everything right and the game just sucks on Linux. And this is just one game. I dread buying future high demanding games only to find out they also run like shit

why did you want to play this game

I fell for the meme and this is exactly what I got
I built a new gaming PC, installed Mint, and when I tried to run some of my old games for nostalgia's sake, they didn't work out of the box, and when I asked around the response I got was

lol why are you playing that garbage anyway?

because I like the game you fucking faggot.
Because I'm a sad faggot looking to relive his childhood, why the fuck would you care?
I was told that Linux gaming had come a long way and that it was pretty close to Windows at this point, and no one ever mentions the constant troubleshooting you will end up having to do. I immediately formatted the PC and installed Windows. I'd rather just avoid that headache completely

Considering RPCS3 and the Xbox emulators constantly run into issues on Windows, despite being made natively for the OS, I doubt Linux gaming will be a real thing until at least 10 or 20 years from now. And obviously, that's not counting stuff like abandonware and much older PC games that have next to not support

still not using linux lmao

because it just werks

winetricks
RPCS3 doesn't even work on windows lol. fact check your shit shill

I can't get my 100Hz monitor to display more than 60Hz. When using Linux, I see my monitor not exceeding 60fps but when I using my Windows partition, I can see the monitor reaching 100fps.
