As long as you're not an accuracyfag, you can emulate console games at well above their original quality levels quite cheap. Even later systems like the Switch only require a semi-recent (like within the last 2-5 years) CPU, not a high end GPU.
Emulation is quite accessible in that respect.
Even modern PC games don't REQUIRE top-of-the-line hardware from this year, but raging poorfags will claim that just because they can't afford a $2000 GPU, it's pointless to play games. You can still blow past the quality level of consoles at a reasonable price.

Depends on the type of cheese. I've had a nonzero amount of kills because I could tell that a shadow on the ground around a corner or under a fence was an enemy. If the shadow quality was just 'incoherent blob' and not 'blob that kinda looks like a gun + arms' I'd have died instead. Medium quality is best if you're a sweat. Or any lowest quality that produces an outlined shadow, and not a grey oval on the ground.
