Why play new games when the peak is already behind us?

Why play new games when the peak is already behind us?

Anyways, what are ya emulating, Anon?

PCSX2_logo4.png - 436x358, 118.4K

Does it have to be PS2?

emulating the PS2 versions of R&C

lol

Metroid Prime 2, never played it, kinda boring but better than anything released in the past 5 years

I tried playing Prime 1 not too long ago and was bored to tears after a few hours. I understand why people loved it back them but it's just a slog to play.

wasting extra processing power on inferior versions

lol

*sniff sniff* are ye pour?

mfw Autechre almost did the soundtrack but Nintendo forced Retro to use their composer instead

Memes aside, give me one single reason why I should play the PS3 versions when the PS2 versions are flawless

Well? Which should I play next?

Already completed:

Crash Twinsanity

Sly Cooper games

Ratchet and Clank games

Playing through 2 for the first time (Only played 3 and Deadlocked as a kid), man, fuck the protopets. I'm also just about to hit that ice planet everyone seems to bitch about, let's see how bad it really is.

ssx3 is great. zoe best girl btw

fuck the protopets

Anon, are you not using your shield? Have you not upgraded it yet? It renders protopets literally completely fucking useless.

ice planet

Fear the yeti

Spider-man

mess with da skulls you pay da price

I wanna start Onimusha but I've caught a nasty cold and I just wanna lie down when I get home

Anon, are you not using your shield?

I did after I realized the shield reflects melee buggers, but before I figured that out man those things are annoying. Also didn't help that the lava gun upgraded to a worse version for dealing with grouped swarms

Spoiler

That bad huh?

The Gamecube or the Wii version? I hear the Wii version has better controls but I'm not about to stick a sensor bar to the top of my gaymin laptop without it falling over.

uncapping the frame rate, having save states, being less buggy

oh wait that's the PCSX2 version

Metal slug anthology

Actually it was the Switch remaster. Granted, I dunno how much the remaster process fucked with the gameplay, but the basic gameplay loop of "explore facility, find stuff, shoot things" was very droll.

uncapping the framerate

There's a framerate patch? I know about overclocking the EE to 130% to get a more consistent 60, but are you saying there's something else?

The Magma Cannon may be a less fun version than the Lava Gun, but don't underestimate its single target damage. It's actually pretty nuts once you get the lock on mod. Great for enemies with beefy health bars (those fucking ramming dinosaur things you find on Joba for instance)

That bad huh?

Just don't waste time trying to kill the Yetis. They literally spawn infinitely. Just go after the big baddies in the frozen over pools that are carrying the Moonstones and completely ignore the Yetis as much as you can. The upgraded shield is killer for this since it zaps enemies at a distance and always causes a pain state forcing them back, meaning the Yetis won't be up in your face as much.

I mean for turbo mode to play faster

Anon, that's gay.

Though I'll admit to using that for the loading screens.

I recently finished Persona 2 Innocent Sin and now I’m playing Eternal Punishment
I thought Innocent Sin was overrated, I know the gameplay was bad but it was bad enough it was actively affecting my enjoyment, I didn’t like many of the cast despite hearing how great the characters are, and although I like the plot now I’ve experienced it all I wasn’t enjoying it at the time. They reveal all the plot twists at the wrong time, either too early where I don’t have enough information to care, or too late where I’m past caring.
That being said I’m really enjoying Eternal Punishment. The gameplay is vastly improved, I’m enjoying the all adult cast a lot more and the fact that I as the player know what is at stake and what is behind the scenes, yet the cast is unaware, creates a really cool feeling

no it's useful, no sense wasting time
bind it to L3 and zoom

Fun fact: Using the Charge Boots moves you faster than walking on turbo mode (at least on my PC, 4070ti Ryzen 7 7700x)

When my RH206H comes in the mail tomorrow I plan on playing Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix.

How is dirge of cerberus? I dont mean clunky controls if it has them

Why emulate it when a native PC port exists?

Fair enough. I've been wanting to get into the Prime games lately. I wonder if the newer games are better, though I like to start a series with the first game usually.

I haven't played it since it came out, I only downloaded it because when I was going on a rom downloading binge, I grabbed every game I remember playing as a kid.

I definitely remember enjoying it back then. The story is total ass, but to me the novelty of a Final Fantasy 7 third person shooter won me over. I don't remember it being very complex or anything. It's probably a "turn your brain off and watch things go boom blam bang" sort of game. I do plan on firing it up eventually once I get through all my other favorites.

PCSX2 is good now. Have you been living under a rock for the past 2 years?

nta but I unironically loved it back in the day
excellent graphics too, looks better than FF7R imo

If an HD Texture pack does not exist for a game then I will not play it and I am not joking

file.jpg - 1920x1541, 129.79K

Are you an unironic schizo? Neither of those posts said PCSX2 was bad.

But 99% of them are awful. I don't think I've seen a good one for PS2 yet.

I'm worried about the future of retro handhelds in the USA after these tariffs. Saw people buying Retroid devices were getting slammed with insane fees from DHL.
I'm actually really fucking lucky that I got my Odin 2 portal and my RG35XXSP, as well as a Retroid Pocket as a birthday gift for my sister.
Like, I got all of that shit just in time apparently.

Comfy portable action.
US Warehouse workaround seems to be okay for now. I ordered without carrying case and was able to avoid AliExpress extra tax.

Nope, it's shit

I was emulating midnight club LA remix on my phone a bit ago, haven't played it in days

I didn't say it was perfect, I just said it was the best one I've played so far. Call me a zoomer (I'm 34) but if a texture pack does at least a decent job of cleaning things up, I'd rather use it than the default blurry textures.

just play on native/software mode

No.

I had to order my RG35XXSP from litnxt because the Ambernic site didn't have any in US warehouses. I think they shipped it from China too but I got it in before the tariffs went into effect, and the US warehouse was all out of SPs.
I suspect a lot of their devices are sold out or will sell out quickly in US warehouses, and I doubt they're going to replenish them until they can get around the tariffs somehow, if at all.

I will say, it's kind of funny getting rewarded in a roundabout way for my impulse purchases. Delayed gratification BTFO

Also enjoy your device anon. I've just been playing Android games on my Portal and I'm having a blast.

Oh hold up, they have an EU warehouse. That wasn't there before.
I wonder if we're subject to tariffs from them, or if they even ship from EU to US? Their warning only talks about shipments from China. Hm.

pcsx2 is good now

since general rewrite and adding vulkan they did almost nothing

people finally can bruteforce performance without shit ton of hacks

this means pcsx2 got good

lmao this will never stop being funny. Your hardware just can bruteforce shit without hacks now, pcsx2 is in same state compatibility wise as it was like 6-7 years ago already.

Xenosaga ep 1 undub. Been really enjoying the game. The combat is a lot better than Gears at least, still some minor gripes with it though.

Literally, unironically, and non-metaphorically works on my machine :^)

I always thought shaders did more than enough, but even blurry textures are better that ones poorly upscaled

I have no idea why 99% of texture packs are poorly done, it's so fucking easy to make them

Because 90% of them are done via Waifu2x or some other shitty free quick AI hackjob tool and absolutely none of them take the time to touch them up by hand.

And despite that, I'd still rather use the texture pack. Mainly because I'm a stickler for HUD elements. I guess we're just on different sides of the coin on this one.

you can automate a decent pack too though

That requires dumping the textures, which would also require playing through the entire game hitting every single area. And at that point, why bother with the texture pack? You've already played the game.

PCSX2 on a CRT with component input

Yup, it's gaming time.

Why not just plug in a real PS2 at that point?

NTA but I'm guessing he probably doesn't want to hunt down $100 copies of everything on ebay.

mechapwn is free

PS2 was hacked over 20 years ago.

NTA but hardware ages, anon. PS2s aren't gonna last forever, and not everyone is gonna want to learn how to solder.

why do thing

because i can retard. next question

Then perhaps he wants to emulate multiple consoles with a limited selection of AV ports

emulating max payne

not playing the pc versions

why anon?

To be fair I haven't launched those yet, and I downloaded them before I knew that they were bad ports. I just never got around to deleting them.

Now that's a good joke.
I love looking at the wiki and/or github and finding decade old critical bugs that are still around.

I have a real PS2 still but a dead disc drive, and no urge to go hunting around an MIO card, FreeMcBoot stuff and so forth, plus no good cables on hand. Sure they'd probably be cheap to handle and get together overall, but if I can play most PS2 games here and now with no fuss besides a handful of games being bitchy about it, there isn't much reason to go hunting all the components to get my PS2 up and running simply for authenticity's sake.
You call that laziness, I call that efficiency.

I don't know why I thought this game would be good at all. But I had fun. Mostly because the game was so weird and inconsistent I loved all the unexpected weirdness.

Bionicle.png - 778x34, 2.13K

ps2 max payne ports

Why? Theyre dogshit especially second game.

Fair enough, can't fault that.

My hardware is 7 to 9 years old (wtf 1060 can't be that old) and I literally never had any problems in 30+ games

honestly most of the PCSX2 problems nowadays are very specific games either being overly demanding, or having compatibility issues still. can't remember if Steambot Chronicles works yet.

I got lost at some point 8 hours in and I can't be bothered to figure out where to go. I don't know why JRPGs never had quest logs until recently

honestly, brute forcing without hacks is better than, you know, using a bunch of hacks
pcsx2 is still absolute ass and has numerous struggles especially with full screen filter effects as of nightlies 2025-05-07

Chaos theory and double agent for og xbawks

Money. Emulation has gotten to the point where it's pretty much indistinguishable from real hardware for most old systems as long as you do it right and have a nice CPU, or a mister fpga. Old games are just too expensive at this point, although PS2 isn't too bad (yet).

Same exact problem I've been having. I swear I could easily reach level 99 trying to figure out where to go. If I didn't have a strong love for space theme and space station themed settings I would have broke out a guide much sooner.

Not wanting to clutter screen space i suppose. Took awhile for MMOs to adopt it too until WoW popularized it.

How is Android emulation of PS2?

Only like psp games. Ps2 was ass fr

Sixth gen was where it all fell apart though.

I thought it was one of the best games of its generation.
But i tried to replay it recently and dropped it at the 1/3 mark.
It really doesn't hold up like Super Metroid does - which i could replay to completion right now if i sat down with it.

This is the first I'm hearing about mister fpga.
Is it really that much better than "software emulation."
What part of the hardware is something I don't have in my gaming laptop, that makes it better at running stuff like, say, N64 and PS2?
Looks like a fascinating world to get into.

That's fucking depressing but also very interesting.
I always thought the music in prime sounded like it was going for that 1990s IDM type sound in a few places, but the composer used such generic synth presets, it just sounded dated and cheesy.
It didn't sit well with the game itself, because the graphics were absolutely cutting edge and it looked amazing, but hearing that cheesy music alongside it, it didn't feel right at all.

Autechre would have brought the music up to the same standard as the graphics.

I'm not really that knowledgeable about it and I don't own one yet but it's supposed to be more accurate because it's emulated at hardware level rather than software. That's about the extent of what I've heard

NTA - because emulation is better.

I have a real ps2 with hard drive and network adapter.
It's sitting in a box because PCSX2 is just 100 times more convenient and is completely indistinguishable from the real thing.
I can just emulate everything from the atari to the wii, with a single box (PC) hooked up to my CRT via component cables.
There's no point adding more crap to the setup.

lent a bunch of my games to nephew, says he wants to play them because he gifted a gamecube and an n64 and an snes

give him about 20 games, including Super Metroid and Super Mario 64

loses them weeks later, doesn't even recount ever having borrowed them, it just stacks up in his mess of a room

still missing them 5 years later

Thank goodness I made backups. Or I'd be pissed off.

Is it really that much better than "software emulation."

No. Edge magazine did an enormous multi page feature on them.
They are no more accurate than software emulation (they require updates to fix bugs and compatibility issues).
And they don't have less input lag as they claim. In fact, retroarch has less lag.
They are a scam basically.

Intersting. I wonder how different the process of setting one up is to an emulator, besides the obvious of plugging one into a TV.
Also, even if it is a scam, if these are multi-console boxes then it's cool to think of it running multiple consoles at the hardware level even if it is not as good as software.

The artstyle annoyed me in Xenosaga 1 but it was fun. Then I thought Xenosaga 2 looked way better but it wasn't very fun. I never tried 3.

started LOTR: The Third Age a couple nights ago after uninstalling the overwhelming disappointment that was Clair Obscur. I wanted to see if a Western JRPG I more or less forgot about was any good or better. and it turns out, I've already played 3/4 of my CO play time and am having a 200% better time with it. it's amazing what happens when you don't start the player out with some pussy retard as the MC for maintaining my interest.

Yeah, imagine a CRT with ports on the back that's against a wall. I think some people forget how convenient and annoying moving them was whenever you wanted to add/get rid of a device from the input.

I didn't like how there were zero towns and all equipment was just found as you played through the game. Also the final boss is funny. But yeah it's a fine RPG. Especially if you liked FF10s battle system cause it's just that.

Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?

file.png - 3840x2160, 617.51K

zero towns and all equipment was just found as you played through the game

that's actually my favorite way of getting gear in JRPGs. always feels like I'm uncovering ancients artifacts instead of just random shit normal NPCs would buy.

FF10s battle system

I gotta hand it to them, if they were going to copy of a bunch of shit from other JRPGs, at least they copied elements of my favorite ones. I need to replay FF X IE one of these days.

the fundamental thing of FPGA is that it's emulating the hardware that plays the games, so it's attempting to get everything as "accurate as possible" and cut down on input latency, rather than tackling every game individually to interpret to your CPU to be able to get these games running.
in theory it should be a one size fits all approach, but in the grand scheme of things its just another flavor of emulation that isn't really superior by itself to other emulation sources or methods. so if anything is touting FPGA as a selling point, you're still buying an emulation box anyway, regardless of what some retro techbro wannabes claim on Anon Babble and in emulation threads. if you're already struggling to figure out the intricacies of all the different emulators and methods, FPGA never was going to make a difference for you.

Gotcha, thank you. I'm guessing I can probably still just get by on normie software emulation for most stuff.

Fine but it has worse compatibility than PC version for example Snowblind engine games are fucked unlike on PC that got fixed and more game specific issues. Aethersx2 dev stenzek sperged out and stopped development around 3 years ago. There is Nethersx2 using custom patches and some GameDB fixes that make things better but Aether was closed source and stenzek didnt released code so dude maintaining Nethersx2 cant do significant changes. Hes working on actual current pcsx2 port himself now but god knows when it will come out.

For Galaxy, did you use an actual wiimote with a sensor bar, or did you map pointer functions to a stick on a controller?
I'd like to emulate something like Super Paper Mario, but I know that that game in particular stops the platforming gameplay when you point the Wiimote at the screen, whereas with Galaxy you can get away with always having the pointer on the screen and just wiggling the stick whenever there are star bits on screen.

Interesting, thank you.
Seems worth it to tinker around for stuff on the go anyway, and any games that have issues I can just run at home on my PC.

NTA, when i played Return to Dreamland i just mapped the game's only waggle (shaking the remote) to the other analog stick, the one that wasn't being used to movie

what controller should i get to play on pcsx2? preferably one that doesn't require me to search for drivers

bought a 40$ dolphin bar and a 30$ chink rip off wii mote from amazon :)

dualsense

but if i could still own one a ps3 controller.

There's shaking and waggling but Super Paper Mario requires you to actually point at things precisely. I don't have extensive Dolphin experience but is there a way to toggle a point/non-point button and then have the right thumbstuck control where you point only when the toggle is on?
What's the least immersion-breaking/awkward way to bind Wii controls for games that take advantage of the gimmick?

Literally anything works but I've been almost exclusively use my DS5.

That's pretty cool. I literally have no space for a dolphin bar on my setup (gaming laptop on a rolling, folding table lmao) but the minute I get a proper desk, I'm definitely buying one.

Also keep in mind that if you have Mali GPU in your phone then shit might be ass. Basically Samsung phones are dogshit for any emulation on android because most use Mali/Exynos combo. Look up your phones chipset if you got newer snapdragon and ur GPU supports custom drivers then install custom drivers and youre gucci.

I forget how I did it but you can use a button (I used a shoulder button) to toggle Tippi on and off and use the right analog stick to move the cursor around. Google "Super Paper Mario Dolphin Controller" and I'm sure you'll find a guide.

Basically anything works but you'll face a big problem with pressure sensitive buttons. PCSX2 doesn't support them ever since they ditched plugins, and no adapter you can find will magically make them operate. So you'll need control config workarounds for pressure sensitivity on games like MGS3 or The Bouncer.

Oh hell yeah, thank you very much anon.

I legit bought the Odin 2 Portal. That thing is a beast with Android games in general, but I haven't dipped my toes into emulation on it yet because I've been having too much fun with my RG35XXSP that's like a GBA SP clone. Definitely hankering for that higher end stuff though.

Np. You will need bios too obviously just like for PCs PCSX2 but thats it. Also as I said here if you have newer Snapdragon then majority of games will run without any tinkering. Racing games are really demanding for example.

I finally tried this game out, and after all the hours I've spent playing Ratchet and Clank games, it's very mid and kind of frustrating to play.

Humor is top notch though. Shame this series didn't go anywhere.

file.png - 600x900, 804.71K

I guess others were bound to have asked the same question. It's good to know it's possible, thanks anon.

yeah it doesnt work up close. need at least 2 meters id say to be able to play it. but im glad af i got it i tried playing them with mouse and it was ASS. the og motion controls made those games as good as they were. Mario launching from a star with a shake is sooooo satisfying. 10/10 would recommend. once you have a better set up it should be first thing to buy

Yeah as far as I have heard they don't include the BIOS files since those are copyrighted; it would be like including actual ROMs into the emulator.

none of this shit is hard to find at all with a simple google search lol "ps2 bios free download" are people retarded?

did pcsx2 add pgs support yet?

I use the keyboard just fine on pcsx2 but then again I only played Code Veronica and Silent Hill 3
I take it most games would be unplayable with the keyboard

or you could just use the Anon Babble emulation wiki

Odin 2 is really good and Adreno GPU supports custom drivers, they help with everything thats using Vulkan really. 95% of PS2 games will run easily and you can even emulate Switch on that.

There are plenty of games that are perfectly playable on keyboard. In fact, there are even ways to have mouse look in third/first person shooter games. It's extremely finnicky to get working and it kinda depends on the game, but the option is there.

I know, I'm not asking how to get BIOS files.

looking for a quick bit of information in a wiki when you could watch a 45 minute youtube video that's 10 minutes of mouse waggling and the history of the playstation, 34 minutes of an ad for some scam product that will be dead in a year, and 1 minute of telling you the info is available on his patreon

Noob.

Recently got done with the Forbidden Siren series, now playing bloodborne on Chadps4

It's not PS2 emulation I'm worried about. It's OG Xbox.
I haven't tried to fuck with CBX2-Reloaded because it seems pretty daunting to get files just for it, but I have tried Xemu and there's very little it comfortably works with, without some major graphics issues or performance problems. Like, I can play Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2X fine, and that's one of the only things. I wanna play Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six 3, try Ghost Recon 2 maybe, among other possible games out there like MechAssault or Chronicles of Riddick, but shit is way behind most other systems, even Xbox 360.

FROG PUNCH.gif - 576x324, 3.64M

The Switch stuff emulation stuff is really cool. I was so close to getting a Retroid Pocket 5 until someone mentioned that the Odin 2 Portal was basically that but better, but I know that the Pocket runs Switch as well.

Hey man I just like listening to Russ and TechDweeb kek

More like shadmanps4.
I had Conker blacking out on Xemu, but it wasn't actually the emulation that was fagging out, but the display. ESPN NFL 2k5 looked great, but it had major input lag.

I'm just about finished with Village in Monster Hunter Dos
I'm almost 200 hours in

How bad is the censoring and look of this (stylized I mean, not graphics) compared to N64?
I think I should get started with the OG but I heard the controls were annoying compared to Xbox.

Pretty much every cuss word is censored. It's beautiful, though, and the control is so much more comfortable.

Anon over 80% of Xboxs library is playable already on Xemu lol. What are yoy talking about?

Found another shot. Didn't get far because of xemu issues. I wanted some Miss Sunflower shots.

I don't think it holds up. It needed to be on the gamecube during a drought and as a series return, Prime is really dull and has awful progression.

Did you play the 4th game in the trilogy?

Digital Devil Saga. Holy fuck, the grinding in this game is crazy. I'm at the haunted house.

Based
Everyone always talks about consoles but retro computers are underappreciated

4th game in the trilogy

They're not underappreciated, PC games mostly sucked balls until about 1998 or so

I've never had any problem with the N64 controls
The graphics are extremely impressive for an N64 game, but it comes with the usual "Rare pushing the console hard" framerate at some points

The best one.

file.png - 256x362, 232.21K

Anyone know how to fix massive fps drops and slowdown when emulating xenosaga 1? mostly happens in cutscenes

Thank you anons. I'll definitely start with the OGs.
Looks nice.

Miss Sunflower

Kek, I was watching the oneyplays playthrough and at that part Chris said

I would have shot ropes to this as a kid

They need voice actresses that sound like that in games again.

I did. And it's my favorite. And I know that's not a popular opinion, but fuck you. R&C is at its best during combat and Deadlock quite literally perfected it and has not been surpassed since.

i dont remember where to find them, but i once found cheats that let me cut the encounter rate in half and boost the xp rates by double. completely saves the game

I prefer to use this for my cover art. Much more kino.

This is nothing compared to console gaming in the 90s. Most of these also had console versions too. Really PC gaming isn't that big of a deal. 50 years and about as many games worth talking about as on the Sega Master System.

tfw modern games probably dwarf that now

You can only play through the PS2 oeuvre so many times

This is nothing compared to console gaming in the 90s

Well it's also a short list, I was in the middle of making a more exhaustive list for his sake but decided anyone that really cares can just google pc games per year and recognize the large pickup in quality by 93-95. 96 onward is where I'd say it really came into form, definitely not as late as 98 as someone said earlier.

Most of these also had console versions too

That were miles worse and you were doing yourself a disservice playing them, with a couple comfy exceptions like sim city.

Name every single PS2 game that exists right now

Not really comparable. A modern pc can do almost everything an old one can. You might have to mod some games to make them work with modern OS but that's about it. Just get a crt monitor which is like 90% of the old pc gaming experience. The other 10% is just petty nostalgia shit like hearing the loud clicking of an ancient hard drive and being on windows 95 or some shit, which I would never want to experience again. Retro consoles are a totally different matter.

doing yourself a disservice playing them

I disagree, you'll get mostly the same experience, some ways better, some ways worse. 20 years of PC posturing over mouse controls and it hasn't added up to much. PC version will also develop bad habits on your end like relying on quicksave/loading, most of those games are designed around it and it does them no design favors.

Vox is my favorite villain, he's so threatening and egocentric to a fault, it's hard not to love hating him.

last decent villain the series ever had

Holy fuck I knew I recognized his voice from somewhere

Having only played Jak X, it's really interesting to go back to play the trilogy. The jump from 1 to 2 is massive in terms of tone, like Ratchet and Clank had a slow change going from platformer with guns to full on TPS. Jak ain't like that.

For anyone playing retrogames, you can also link your account to Retroachievements which will track game progress and have custom achievements to unlock. It's a fun way to motivate you to play your old library. If anyone decides to sign up, post your IGN here and I'll add you to friends. It's always fun seeing what other people play.

nothing at the moment, waiting for my Odin 2 to come so i can emulate the Switch version of Diablo III

Good luck anon, if you're in the US I heard some people were having trouble with China shipments since the tariffs.

Odin 2 Max enjoyer here, temper your expectations because Switch emu is rocky at the moment and most games will crash after a while even after lots of tinkering. Windows emulation on Android is surprisingly good though so you might want to check that out instead. Just be careful transferring files back and forth because Winlator was recently found to have a virus (Win32/Floxif).

>tfw modern games probably dwarf that now

Ironically yeah. I remember reading in gaming magazines about how bad the cutscenes were in this game. After playing a bunch of modern games, it really isn't that bad.

It's good to skip sometimes. Some series just have a shitty first few games and it's best to start with a later game, bonus if they are also narratively distinct.
Examples:

Persona

Breath of Fire

Lufia

Sorry, I don't play anime tiddies games.

But to your point, I don't count games that are self contained. Like Final Fantasy, for an obvious example.

Man, even with Final Fantasy I have option paralysis and don't know where to start.
It's funny though, I do have an original NES and a Final Fantasy cartridge and I'm not sure if it works, but that's at my parents' house.

Persona

ftfy*

eh. I want to but I don't know where to get a BIOS and I'm not buying a PS2 just to play those games

How fucking new to the internet are you? Do you not know what Google is? Have you never heard of the Internet Archive? How the fuck do you expect to function in life if you can't solve even the most basic of logical problems?

Been playing this and Berwick Saga.
In fact, I already beat Berwick Saga, but I haven't had the motivation to go back to Wizardry since each time I need to go through the randomized floor 3 before going back to where I was. That, and holy fuck that game is so slow. How did people play it without the emulator's fast forward.
I downloading basically the entire PS2 jrpg library but I've also have had a hard time getting the motivation to actually start anything.

IMO start with 1 NES or Origins. After that skip to IV and just play in order from there.

There's Retroarch bios bundles openly available for download on multiple GitHubs, this one has PS2
github.com/archtaurus/RetroPieBIOS

I don't know where to get a BIOS

The same place you get ROMs. Honestly I don't know why these 6th gen and older emulators even bother still separating them from the emulators now. We already know any company can still go after them regardless if they have key files or not.

those are good but they lack the story of SoT. have you gives those a try?

Google where to download the appropriate BIOS from the system that you want.

BIOS files.png - 852x799, 69.48K

The OG really holds up, huh?
I'll give it a shot, maybe even on OG hardware if I visit back home soon.

extract PS2 bios from PS3 firmware

Never knew you could do that, pretty cool

wouldn't the backwards compatability be the reason for that?

It makes sense honestly. Early PS3 models were backwards compatible with PS2, so it'd make sense that they'd need the PS2 bios to be able to run the games.

Anbernic is also releasing an updated version of the RG35XXSP which includes 2 analog sticks(with click in L3 and R3). It is called the RG34XXSP

What 360 exclusives are worth emulating? It's the only emulator I haven't set up.

file.jpg - 200x200, 7.69K

love my ambernic. will this new one play gamecube/ps2?

fable 2
that is all

Thanks fellas. I'll give it a try. I've never been Internet savvy and emulation seemed more daunting than it is.
t. console player most of my life

If you like the Tenchu games then Z is on the middling side but not bad in its own right. Blue Dragon is a pretty alright RPG and Lost Odyssey is better, there's Ridge Racer 6, the Xbox 360 port of Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires if you're into that sorta thing as the only HD version of DW5, and Project Sylpheed if you're looking for some obscurer picks. If you're a Naruto fan, Ubisoft also did a pair of fighting/adventure game hybrids with Rise of a Ninja and The Broken Bond, though it's also practically a montage of anime footage from the dub so it's some real surreal shit to revisit.

If I play through the Xenosaga trilogy I'll play through with the Japanese version with English voices and text. I know they do have that if you want to play that uncensored while having English voices and text. Need to upgrade my microSD card on my Retroid Pocket 4 Pro since I literally filled up my 1TB microSD card.

actual fucking retard. emulating the ps2 versions is the best possible way to play.
The ps3 ports are glitchy dogshit that don't render properly.

fuck. meant for

i just prefer the "experience" of the ps2 emualtor for the ps3 one. sure they might be hd on ps3 but the emulator is still in its infancy, a lot of shit doesnt work right, and if your cpu is ass its even worse. ps2 with hd textures is def the way to go and it can run on even the most dogshit cpu nowadays

I saw that but the bezel is really throwing me off.
The chip and screen is going to be the same anyway, right?
I'd probably go for the 34 if it was my only device but the d-pad remapping as an analog stick works surprisingly well for me, and I only need to hit the power button to do it.

Ratchet trilogy, Sly trilogy, Gow 2, Midnight club 3, and there are no other games for this console. 90% of them are crap licensed from cartoons/movies, or multiplatform games that have been played on PC many times.

The ace combat games

sure they might be hd on ps3

you can make them HD on PCSX2 with much better results. PS3 is objectively worse in every way.

Just finished Ratchet and Clank 2.
Man, the giant protopet is so much easier compared to Chairman Drek.

on actual hardware? ps3 was better. on emulator? ps2 wins

emulation requires not only cpu but also gpu, retard

on actual hardware? ps3 was better.

Given that basic things such as menu graphics were broken on PS3 and there were numerous glitches in regular play because of the sloppy porting job, I'd disagree. Shit, Ratchet Deadlocked is genuinely borked in the HD Collection, all the cutscenes are filled with stutters and broken animations because of how badly they worked that thing.

3rd gen i5 and gtx 680 runs all these emulators just fine.

this is the case for ps3 versions of sands of time triology. the sound and fps is fucked up better to just upscale ps2 on emulator

Enjoy, anon. Sometimes there's some frustrating shit but I'll never forget the first time I played Mario with an xbox controller, or when I plugged in a NES to USB controller into my PC. It's fun to dive into.

Also, if you happen to be into the gen3/4 Pokemon games, check out something called ROM hacks. You'll have to patch the OG files but there are free online patchers where you just upload two files together and you're golden.

Why play new games when the peak is already behind us?

That's my philosophy, which is why I only emulate or play old pc games now.
I ain't paying large bucks for grind games, gamble games or hold your hand games.

how are yall liking the dolphin and pcsx2 and duckstation "nightly" release cycle? not much has come out since 2.2 that wowed me desu. same for rpcs3 nightly releases arent really improving shit for me assassins creed games are still broken after 2018 when they became usable in emulator

Show me your "fine" 60fps with 2k or 4k

Also, if you happen to be into the gen3/4 Pokemon games, check out something called ROM hacks. You'll have to patch the OG files but there are free online patchers where you just upload two files together and you're golden.

i will vouch for this anon this has been one of the better things to come out of emulating things

that setup is an offline windows 7 pc i keep at my trailer for playing with friends when we camp out there. its sorta like keeping a ps2 or game cube in trailer as a kid but its an "all in one" solution the tv in the trailer is like 18 inch lmao

fable 2

I haven't noticed a single change despite downloading every update as it comes along. But it's nice knowing that it's actively being worked on.

tfw TVs are so thin now that I can't put my Dolphin bar on top of mine.

Of course I can always do the bottom but I always felt that Wii controls were better when you were pointing slightly up.

I miss Japan rpgs

more you play old games, then more you start to realize that there used to be a lot of soulless crap for making cash. jak 1-3 is the best example of how a whole series didn't know what to be and just tried to copy trends.

I want to be isakai

i switched from 2.2 on pcsx2 to nightly and nothing looks or feels better not even has any new modern features desu.

As true as that may be, at least it wasn't every game. There used to be enough new shit but also shit that had ambition but maybe not budget (See: 90% of slav jank).

Pic rel, I owned it when I was younger but I never finished it. Shit's cash.

Does the official Nintendo Switch Online N64 controller work well with N64 emulators?
Anyone know if the best gamecube ones for PC or can you get a nice USB adapter for the OG?

is there a stable emulaor for that console yet?

i started playing it and was told by anons to play the steam or ps3 release of it instead since its upgraded and better in every way

"Does x controller work with y emulator"

Yes. The answer is fucking yes. It will always fucking be yes unless you're asking about special features like motion control or something. Why do people ask this so often? Why are you so retarded?

yes pcsx2 is great

times.png - 2202x1211, 186.62K

Thank you anon, good new channels for me to check out.
I also want to add that Retro Game Corps is the GOAT for in-depth guides and TechDweeb is pretty good too if you don't mind his "nerd voice" schtick.

You're either the dumbest fucking idiot ever, or this is just bait.

I know they do have that if you want to play that uncensored while having English voices and text.

That might be the one I'm actually playing then since there's blood in my game too. Didn't know it was the Japanese version, I just looked for undub and went for that.

What's not stable about PCSX2? I haven't had an issue with it in years.

have you been outside anon? people are 80 iq retards they dont know pc can even use controllers

you ever concerned sailing the high sea?

I go outside to get to my job and that's about it. I try to limit my social interactions as much as possible.

all are shit because "modders" are lazy fucks that just use AI to "enhance" every image, they dont even care to retouch the AI generated images

my nigga. if you like seaglass check out polished crystal. it doesnt change the aesthetics like seaglass but its basically the highest quality rom hack i have ever played.

legit has a coworker in 2019 tell me he doesnt wanna get into pc gaming cuz he doesnt want to have to get used to a mouse and keyboard to play games... i told him pc can use controllers and he was shocked

Make sure you double check, the anon telling you it works seems like a retard since some controllers don't work on PC.

Perhaps but if you get a nice CPU and GPU then you can run modern games and emulators on the same device.

I'm sure haven't, jew.

dude this controller from 20 years ago that doesn't have drivers that support past windows XP doesn't work!

Ok

ill check it out :D

dos screen opens for 1 ms

i dont know a good site. i tried to download sims 2 from russian torrents and it was all in russian it sucked

It is yeah, my rig is really old though so I doubt I could emulate it well. Maybe I'll give it a shot though.

it's good retards don't know how to sail

the wii u gamepad indeed was plug and play am I right

....What exactly is Jewish about me enjoying free games on PCSX2?

One thing I don't miss are the absolute glut of mascot platformers and licensed games that were largely quick cash-grab attempts and popular trend bullshit. Sure there's some standouts here or there, but I can say the same for many things. Superman 64 and Bubsy 3D were not isolated incidents.

BUT MUH RATCHET AND PLATFORMERS!

Ok

But muh jrpg

Ok.

what pathetic faggots are console lovers except gow 2 there were never any games on this console. pc was always better.

2001 was over 30 years ago, Anon. No one cares about your PC vs Console faggotry anymore.

The HD version is one of the rare cases of being a good remaster since it also contains the original game if you don't like the new changes.

that's a stupid question

even xbox wasn't that pathetic because at least it had the halo series.

Make a stupid accusation, get a stupid question

Anyways you're a retard

I don't care though? Why did you come into this thread, exactly?

because the OP asked me why play new games, and for some reason he lies that the PS2 was the peak of the industry

Ok. Now talk about emulation please.

Do it!

bestpsx.jpg - 503x443, 72.28K

Sell me on it, anon. What do you like about it?

You can really find some gems on this console

91tPq7U4nWL.jpg - 1921x2560, 578.7K

What would other anons consider "MUST PLAY" games on the ps2? I want to play some gems but there's so many I don't know where to start

you can soft mod a ps2 and play iso images using USB/HDD/SMB(Network), you can even use a "microsd to memory card" adapter to play games

Amazing atmosphere, always trying to figure out wtf is going on. Realistic and cool characters. Don't want to spoil by saying more. load it up, translation is at vimms

I know nothing about the Nintendo 64 online controller and was wondering if it's worth buying for emulation and if it is faithful to the feeling of the original.
Also for gamecube I was asking since I want a good one that emulates that tigger button feel where you have that click at the end of it. Good for say, Mario Sunshine where holding it down all the way keeps you stationary but a half press means you can run around shooting water in front of you.

They're both absolutely excellent. But if someone was going to play one single game from the series, absolutely no question I would tell them to play UYA over GC.

Keep in mind that I'm talking about the Nintendo Switch Online version of the Nintendo 64 controller. I've heard mixed things about that specific one connecting to PC. I don't know if I'll need some extra peripherals to get it working and if there's a better way with, say, a third party controller that's the "best" way to play N64 games, then I'd love to know.

I'd say you're missing out, but my experience has been

oh, you want to emulate this game? Sure thing, pal.

Mostly compatible

It has no sound, missing textures and crashes every 5 minutes

The plugin-fixes never work

That shit pissed me off after about 20 games I wanted to play. I got the SATA hdd adapter, FreeMCBoot and Grimdoomer's OPL and loaded up a 4TB hdd full over every game I've collected/owned. Now I don't have to be worried about what games do or don't work. I know they all work.

ratchet 3 is cut and unfinished. even the developers said so. it doesn't compare to the second part because it uses maps from the multiplayer and there are no mini games from the previous two parts

what happened to the pcsx2 schizo?

Control is king and needing to hold down a button to strafe is inferior to UYA's control scheme. Ratchet 2 has its own flaws as well.

Deadlocked is the best game in the series but I know people would screech at me if I recommended it over UYA/GC

I never see this game discussed even on hyper niche communities like Anon Babble, but I played through the entire thing about 3 years ago. It's honestly a strange and incredible experience. Go into it blind, don't read about it, download the translated bincue that other anon posted and brace your butthole for something really fucking weird.

you need to login retard

chd is best format. 1 file, smaller size. Also what most linux based handheld emulaters use only.

Do yourself a favor and translate all your bin/cues and iso's to CHD. It's the best rom format ever. Consolidates everything into 1 file, saves a shitton of space, and compatible with most emulators nowadays.
retropie.org.uk/docs/CHD-files/

Does microSD to MC let you save yet?

its the chud gaming format. for only the most based of us gamers ;)

Oh fuck, thanks anon. I've been debating getting rid of some of my games because I'm running out of space. This will save me a huge chunk of space.

i don't know, i only use HDD because is the fast, the microSD to MC is a new thing to me and i've never used it

I play it on my PS Vita

PCSX2 is the second worst emulator when it comes to 6th gen. I play on real hardware.

Maybe the 1.6 stable release of PCSX2 satisfied him and made him fuck off, since he was apparently incapable of being reasonable and downloading the nightly release like people told him thousands of times. Or maybe he grew up and got a life/killed himself. Regardless, glad that absolute fucktard is gone.

Just played this last year. Certainly a charming game, but not anything special. Medievil did this type of game better. Also it's hard enough to be frustrating, but not enough to drop the game.

Damn is everyone else having these issues?
I keep seeing anons here say that PS2 emulation is smooth sailing for them.

Ignore the retards. PCSX2 is great now.

emulation is wrong morally and logically, and it also encourages being a fucking lazy ass and thief

It was the peak though.

Prime1 is instantly and massively improved by getting space jump early in the starting room of tallon overworld using a scan dash.

If Sony sold even a quarter of this stuff on their store I would gladly buy it
They used to sell a lot of PS1/2 games on PS3, I dunno why they stopped

Nothing says lazy like carefully curating ROMs and getting everything set up to run the exact way I want it.
Go ahead and open up RetroArch for me and tell me that anyone who uses that shit regularly is "lazy" lmao.

I'm fully willing to believe that many people have played all the games they'd want on emulator and just haven't ran into games that are known for any issues. I was just 'unlucky' with my selection. My point is that the games I want to work should work like they do on OG hardware at bare minimum.

It's amazing the variety we used to get 25+ years ago. Just looking at the early PS2 lineup.

the sequel is peak action platformer.

emulation is stealing, but only from the worst kinds of """people""" (retards trying to sell their ULTRA RARE RETRO GAMES on ebay for 10x original MSRP)
it's actually even MORE based than regular piracy

Godhand

Timesplitters Future Perfect (multiplat)

Shadow of the colossus (got a PS3 HD port)

thats about it.
so just godhand.

based steve spitting facts

Well shit, that anon got me on the rabbit hole of looking into iso/rom compression.

Is there some kinda resource for compressing roms across many platforms? Dolphin has its own built in rvz converter, and chdman seems to also work for Dreamcast games. I'm wondering what the best method of compression for PS2 is.

Or you played the wrong version of the emulator

i only recently learned it actually takes place in the same universe as ghosts n goblins which makes a lot of sense in retrospect.
army of zin is better imo.

Just replayed Sly 1 now I'm replaying Ratchet and Clank 1. Gonna ping pong between those two series for a bit

Why are companies so hard against emulation? I get stuff like Switch Emulation (Don't agree but I get it), but with regards to consoles that aren't sold anymore outside of favelas and games that only exist in second hand form, what incentive does a company have to shut it down?

I'd try the newest version, most of my experience has been from v1.6.0 stable. I'm too invested in my hacked PS2, though. I got that working just the way I want. I suppose I might be surprised to see how its improved.

this. doing all the work is a game in itself

What's your thoughts on the two games and how their series changed after the first game? Personally, both got better but R&C had to sacrifice something for those changes.

So they can force you to purchase a subscription to play roms they provide?

Destroy all Humans is some of the most dumbass silly fun you'll have

Yeah but they also go after the obscure or games that are complete failures as well (Not to mention this is assuming they even sell the old games anymore thanks to copyright bullshit with music or IP rights of the property).

because retards like to brag about emulating and use it to define their personality instead of shutting the fuck up.
basically the same as torrent fags who think it is some ancient lost art and that anyone under the age of 25 doesnt know how to use a client.

Control. Even if the emulator only supported games that a company had no current way of selling to you. Because when you play games that you emulate, you're not spending time playing their current games that you need current hardware for. To Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo its worth spending money to shut down emulators to wrestle your attention back.

The obscure stuff just happens to be a victim of them protecting the more popular stuff, it's a blanket measure

I remember playing the Wii version and wishing it had an undub. Only the Ps2 version had dual audio

I think Sly is a straight up upgrade in every way. Sly 1 is fun enough, but Sly 2 is where it really starts to feel like its own thing, plus the character dynamics between the gang get a lot better.
Ratchet and Clank is bit different. I like the first game being more of a platformer, plus the more varied locations and music, but I also just really like UYA. 2 is fine too, it just has too many "that parts" for me.

I suppose I might be surprised to see how its improved.

You absolutely would.

chd is the only truly "cross-platform" format and if your emu supports it (most that support isos do at this point, Dolphin being the only major exception) there's no real reason to use anything else. It's lossless, fast and about on par with all the older platform-specific formats in terms of size efficiency

It's so easy to play these old games FOR FREE!

links the website for all the roms plus the emulator

I fucking hate clout chasing retards so much it's unreal.

Already in the process of compressing my PS1 roms. Next up are my PS2 roms.

God damn I've already saved like 15 gigs worth of space.

file.png - 1093x234, 36.01K

exactly, thats why gatekeeping is a good thing and you should keep anything you like to yourself or niche forums.

That's because the Wii version was exclusive to western territories, Japan only got the PS2 version

The only thing I will say with regards to R&C is as fun as the "puzzle" combat is, the final few planets were really testing my patience and led me to using the visibomb for the last stretch until the Drek fight itself. Going Commando felt nicer to fight but definitely had less interesting things to do with platforming.

Absolutely. It may have lower lows than 2 but it has some pretty fucking high highs.

Yes. It has a good story and really fun levels to explore if you ignore the metric fuck ton of mini games. Plus it has a really satisfying ending to the series as long as you pretend Sly 4 doesn't exist (it doesn't)

Not just emulation, homebrew too
I have a personal hatred for all those fuckers on YT that spouted "DID YOU KNOW HOW EASY IT IS TO HACK THE 3DS" over and over

tbqh it just doesn't make sense to me that talking about emulation on social media is somehow going to bring the lawyers down
all of the sites that get DMCAd are on the first page of google results for ILLEGAL DOWNLOAD MARIO FREE NO VIRUS, I genuinely don't buy the idea that Nintendo is totally clueless about it unless it pops up in their twitter feeds

Soulcalibur II.

been playing this. its amazing how it holds up and youre 100% you can come back at any point in your life and its still GOAT

same

im not talking about that.
im talking about people who feel the need to comment directly on companys social media about it or link videos showing exactly where to download ROM's from in response to them and then acting surprised when those sites get taken down.
very few people actually emulate and companies wouldnt give a fuck if people could actually stfu and just play their games quietly.

ye.
I was working on a list of "timeless" retro games that have that 'pick up at any time and enjoy' experience but i've been struggling to finish it.

Can I talk about how awful "collectors" are? I'm not talking about someone who has a genuine passion for something and collects it for their own uses, I'm talking about those fucks that scrounge garage sales and finds a technically rare thing to overinflate its' worth to sell on the internet within a day? I bet any dollar these people would be scalpers for new products as well.

id add prince of persia sands of time triolgy on there.

Rvz is dolphin exclusive so you have to use dolphin. You can batch convert though. Hold the Ctrl key and select the games -> right click -> convert iso's.

The same chd script that works for say PS1 bin/cues will also work for other platforms, for example:

Sega CD

Pc engine CD

Sega saturn

PS2: personally speaking I've used the same iso2chd script for years without any issues. However, apparently some iso2chd scripts are missing some function called createdvd (mine is missing it) which is apparently the optimal way to convert PS2 iso's to CHD. To be honest I never really understood it and since I've had no issues with my script I just kept using iso2chd without createdvd. But ymmv, do your own research and don't quote me on all this because I might be getting some details wrong.

Dreamcast: a little different because of the cdi/gdi formats. However there are slightly modified scripts that specifically convert gdi to CHD. There's a few on GitHub I believe.

Happy converting anon

the ps3 rerelease version sucks compared to the ps2 version

super mario bro's is to basic imo i get bored of most platformers but I understand where you're coming from

I havent played any of them unfortunately but I have heard people mention the story is surprisingly good for a PS2 game.
are they all interconnected or can you just play each entry by itself ?

The real answer I rarely hear anyone respond with: while having the ability to resell older games is a mildly appealing prospect, the real reason is it gives gamers options that detract away from the slop these companies keep shitting out every 15 year dev cycle.
Modern gaming is:

Drm infested to the point of being borderline malware

Buggy as shit at launch

Megacorpo doesn't like you emulating, not because they want to drudge up their old ip's to sell you again, but because they know they can't compete with the past.

This comment on that article mentioned something that worked for him with PS2 specifically.

Thankfully, most of my Gamecube games were already in .rvz format. I only had to convert three games. I'm currently working on convering my Dreamcast ROMs and holy shit, some of them have an absolutely absurd ratio. Pic related.

they are all connected. so i like to say the whole triolgy is one giant game.

but i mean its the guy who made assassins creed and was fired by ubisoft after brotherhood who made it so of course its going to have a good story. story is exceptional actually espeically today let alone for a ps2 game

heard the guy quit and only recently came back to work on it full time

the same thing happened with metroid dread.

I havent played a single assassins creed game either lol, sorry anon but this is lost on me.
ill probably check out sands of time eventually thanks to your reccommendation though.

probably for the best lol went to shit aftyer that guy got fired. but im glad youll at least play SoT cuz that one is really damn good <3

I like Russ's tutorials, but I hate looking at his faggot HR face and he recently started doing opinion/vlog videos and that fucking sucks.
Fuck parasocial bullshit, not everything needs to be a fucking blog, just tell me how to install rpcs3

That's the best version. HD collection has graphical and audio issues.

I guess they want to retain the right to charge full price for a lazy re-release port whenever they get around to it (if they get around to it) and they want to make emulation inconvenient and illegal and scary because the normies need to be kept unaware of all the great features emulators have that companies don't want to compete with when they're charging you out the ass for the "official" way to play on new hardware.

You just might decide that it's not worth it to pay the highest tier Nintendo Switch Online subscription just so that you can play Wave Race 64, and Nintendo can't have that.

It simply aged like dogshit. Disregard anyone that defends it

SOTC made sense as a remaster but now with emulation no point

yep, prime fucking sucks and is tedious as hell

did they fix the pc port yet?

What's the cheapest handheld that can play PS2 games?

your phone which you probably already have

It's like a zip file for certain ROMs. It can make a 4GB ISO into 1GB CHD. You can play the CHD without manually uncompressing it.

I will say I got a chuckle out of this one Twitter post quote tweeting Nickelodeon with a leaked version of their new SpongeBob movie.
The Tweet was something like

The new SpongeBob movie releases July 12th on Netflix!

and the quote tweeter re-uploaded the whole movie as a video and said

actually, it releases right now.

That's the funniest "fuck you, lick my nuts mr. company" I've seen because it was so unexpected and direct in a world where everyone is all "google it, man."

no

I bought Soulcaliber VI on Steam and had to refund it because it just made my gaming laptop monitor black screen for no reason.

A controller for your phone and install aethersx2
Get the backbone controller if you care about having PS button labels

Anon Babble emulation wiki

link please and thank you?

Here is my list

chart.png - 1140x1700, 2.85M

Thanks. Didn't realize phones were so powerful.

This is a good list. Lots of variety. Big names that made the PS2 the iconic juggernaut it was, plus one or two niche unknowns to round it out. Solid 9/10.

My only critique is MK Deception instead of Deadly Alliance.

Is it better than Shinobi?

I'm a divorced trans father of four who missed out on the PS2 era. Are there any LGBTQ+ friendly games from this gen?

more "balanced", but has less peaks and less valleys as a result as a more middle of the road sequel. the whole sci-fi aesthetic really loses the charm.
also apparently the localization heavily rewrote the game and fucked with shit unnecessarily

I don't really mind his face and I can skip the opinion videos, but to each their own and I definitely understand where you are coming from.
Sometimes, I miss the days of Unregistered Hypercam 2.
Someone should make an "emulator" that's just old YouTube kek

Anon Babble got me to stop playing games and instead spend my days taking down misinformation.

Persona 4

AI exists to undo any effort you put into this cause.

i didnt either but even the most shit tier phone is like 20x the cpu of the ps2

You just saved me $500. I was thinking about buying a Steam Deck.

Even so, some games will still give you shit for whatever reason. Can run Kingdom Hearts and Tekken 5 just fine but I can't get any of the Sly games run at a decent frame rate.

I take solace in that the AIs quickly start to hallucinate and churn out complete nonsense, but people think having the last word means they're right. Someone needs to help them understand.

If you want a dedicated handheld that can do PS2, you can get one for much cheaper than a $500 Steam Deck. If you're okay with Android, despite the limitations mentioned by this anon , you can just get a Retroid Pocket 5 and a comfy grip case on Etsy.

sly2 runs perfect for me. what are ur specs

my phone of 7 years died finally and i got a redmagic 10 pro for 650$ + the 100$ controller for it and it runs switch games ffs lmao i was like wtf is this. if i didnt need a phone id gotten a deck or a switch but since i needed a phone for that price i couldnt say no

God Hand, ignore everything else, thank me later.

CPU Qualcomm SM6450 Snapdragon 6
GPU Adreno 710
4 GB of memory
It's a midrange Motorola phone from 2023

This is a lie. Nightly added in native support for DualShock 3 pressure sensitivity like a week ago, using the sixaxis driver.

Boring beat em up

Anon, 95% of users probably don't realize that, the nightly update notes are so technical that they just download the updates rather than skim them.

It was one of the few PS2 games that supported keyboard and mouse controls since it originally had online that was stripped out for the NA release. You have to get the Japanese version with english text if you want to play that one because online added extra cutscenes for the main villains.

As for the game its pretty fun despite all the hate, in a nonsense DMC 3rd person shooter kind of way. I also remember the gun customization being pretty fun.

Even prior to that you've been able to use pressure sensitivity with DualShock 3 for years with a custom driver.

the nightly update notes are so technical that they just download the updates rather than skim them.

I turn that shit off, they get so annoying.

playing ace combat 2
it's incredible how much they polished the second game compared to the first, namco really was at their peak during the 5th gen
and I haven't even played ace combat 3 yet which is apparently really good

I wanna replay some of the GBA pokemon games from the mainline to mystery dungeon games and maybe some dumb hacks but I haven't emulated GBA in over a decade, is Visual Boy Advance still the best emulator? Would like some hack recommendations if you have them too.

After playing the Suikoden I&II remasters I went through 3 and 5 (4 is shit I heard and you can skip it).
Not surprised that the series got forgotten after 2. 5 isn't bad but holy shit it's like a 80 hour RPG only because of how fucking slow it is. Dungeons are straight lines while the towns are goddamn labyrinths. I was stuck in the game's opening town for 30 minutes because I couldn't find the right NPC to talk to advance the plot.

(You)

Everyone uses mGBA now and possibly another I can't remember the name of. I honestly don't even remember why anymore.

emulate this "hidden" gem series

with every entry the tone of the game radically changes for the worse

only that motivates me to continue is the improved gameplay

Many such cases.

That actually makes me want to ask if there's solid definitive version hacks out there of each generation so that I don't need to do trade shit and other things in emulation.

some cite the VBA-M derivative, but frankly yeah just stick to mGBA

might as well play on 2.2 stable then anon....

School Days (ps2)

playing through burnout 3 after many years, arcade racing games peaked here. also started mizzurna falls on duckstation it's comfy. terranigma is next when I find more time.

Anon Babble usually have rom hacking threads, you can check there. You can also check

pokecommunity.com/forums/rom-hacks-showcase.184/

but good luck navigating that site and not expecting dead links.

I raise you Bujingai, AKA Chinese-Japanese Twink DMC. Playing on hardware though because softmodding is easy.

bujingai.jpg - 265x375, 23.87K

i still got some bad slow down against the final boss in KH2 and flickering textures in some places

Objectively correct opinion

Yes

I need a new plug for roms

these days I'm playing Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss, this shit is so good

co5xjp.jpg - 600x800, 86.08K

Playing through Majora's Mask via the recently updated Recomp, with the HD texture pack and a handful of QoL mods that don't ruin the spirit of the game. It came out after the PS2 launched so I think it qualifies for your criteria.

picrel
and rhythem heaven
out of the ones you have?
godhand then mgs3

Reacting like this to anons who are happy about playing some of their nostalgia games via emulation says so much about you and the current state of your life.

That's not what anon is talking about, he is talking about those youtube retards and wannabe journos who talk about this shit with their normalfag audiences.

loved ace combat 0

emulated it

played 2 missions

quit and stopped playing

this happened too many times

picrel

I hope you've got that guide at hand.

Anyone knows a decent rom site

I totally jumped the gun here. You're completely right. I misunderstood the context of his post

nice try fbi

I hope you've got that guide at hand.

i did but i gave up on it
when i reached lezard's tower

the guide literally tells you to not do any of the other dungeons in ch4 before lezard but if you do that you'd be too under leveled to beat some of the regular enemies in that dungeon

i dont care about the real ending ill just watch it on youtube..

even if i told you its no use. the collection site i've used has added a paywall this yeay

i typed that like a complete retard...

nice try nintendo

Lol well that sucks paying to access roms is nasty but I guess it's understandable

sega saturn emulation has become better than n64 emulaton which is something i didn't expect

All those harddrives you store hundreds to thousands of ROMs, ISOs, etc on? One housefire and all of it is gone. How does this make you feel.

who cares I can just download them all again
I have an account on a private games tracker and all the big rom collections are set to freeleech

I have like 2 roms I play in general. Should be pretty easy to get them again.

games are free, externals are cheap enough

One housefire and all of it is gone

That applies to everything including the house and probably your life, what the fuck is your point?

I've never emulated before this, I just wanted a taste of that sweet nostalgia.

list.png - 345x414, 22.16K

Just beware of SoulCalibur 3's save corruption issues. I'm not sure if anyone ever fixed that.

They really made abyss too op didn't they

Been playing through all of the Wipeout games. Can you guys suggest any other anti-gravity racers with a good career mode?

most i got for you is ballisticng as about as legally distinct a spiritual successor as you can get, but i dunno how is campaigns compare overall. tons of mods though.

It's really a shame the other Wipeout games didn't have a similar campaign to Fusion. The ability to unlock more pilots and upgrade their ships, which changes the way the ship looks, was a lot of fun.

Still has a shit ton of input lag

those play times

anon... what's happening to you?

he plays some video games

To be correct, he plays some of a lot of video games.

gonna start a BoFIV run soon, might do a Koudelka and then Shadow Hearts 1-3 replay afterward

Holy shit this thread is just full of zoomers

Bugs Bunny: Lost in Time
