I dont get it

It's a spear with a pet beetle who sucks the juices out of monsters and gives them to you.

Can someone edit this to say Bing Bing wahoo stick in the same font

you go up and up and down and down
and if you dont go up no more you sic the bug on em then back up

"Je Suis Monte!"

Game needs some new weapons classes.

Boomerang
Gauntlets and Boots
Trapper

It's a spear
There's nothing special about the spear itself, but somehow you get a way to jump and do cool shit in midair thanks to it
You also get a pet bug that hits enemies, collects shit and buffs you
Almost makes me drop my trusty longsword for it. Almost.

It’s fun

let me use a pocket knife against a behemoth

I can't believe they removed diving wyvern from wilds

i only understand charge blade
every other weapon is fucking mystery to me because all my attacks have a hierarchy dictated by meters
what the fuck do i do with an sns? not clue
glaive is also fucking weird and changes every game to be weirder

That means you're not french, be glad.

Ironically during the FFXIV collab you got to fight a literal Behemoth and his loot is used for Kain's Lance, which is a broken ass insect glaive that's effective AF against him

glaive is actually more similar to cb than many other weapons in that you have to load the weapon with insect attacks

Before Wilds and Rise, it was actually a very simple weapon moveset-wise. Beyond bug upkeep, you just did the same rotations and jumped a lot for mounts and shit. It's basically made for people who like making new weapons and raising bugs by gathering and farming.

Boomerang

Could be neat. Semi-ranged weapon with a long delay that leaves you open defensively

Gauntlets and Boots

Close range, with a "heavier" moveset than SnS or DB maybe? I dunno might be redundant. Maybe with some sort of mounting/latching mechanic it could distinguish itself. Same argument against bringing back Tonfa I think

Trapper

Utterly useless if you're bad at positioning and thinking ahead. Might be hell to play in a pub lobby. But still could be neat.

SnS and DB are the true toenail clippers.

i know that you have to load red buff to unlock the good stuff and that you really only want red and white but it seems so annoying having to figure out where you get the buffs
and the fact that you can only refresh the buffs at certain points and not others

Just stay in the air permanently. Your teammates will try to say things to you but you'll be too high up to hear them.

a GIANT shield
thats it
and you'd have super blocking where people behind would also be safe and maybe you could launch people into the air like their stepping off the shield

it needs accel axe and gunhammer

Game needs a flail weapon with a bad sidestep or roll but whose attacks carry the hunter well in different directions due to its mass. Something with a real sense of tempo.

Just let me use Charge Blade's Sword and Shields on Sword 'n Shield.

You'd basically be punching and kicking the monster to death with katars, claws, spiked gauntlets, and similar weapons on the legs and feet. Some of the larger and heavier weapons made from monsters like Gravios could act like shields with their size, the Hunter crosses his arms to block attacks or drops onto a ball to shield with his legs as well.

Considering monsters always beeline at you, it would be fairly easy to set your traps in their path. Damage over time would be the main gimmick, with traps that inflict bleed, poison, attach devices that dig into its skin and damage it, set it alight with alchemical fire, some could even combo with each other, and your "main" trap would have the elemental properties, plus you can set multiples of the main trap in a row or scattered and kite the monster into them. When you get to high Low Rank or High Rank you can gain the ability to throw traps at the monster's feet.

just charge your sword bro

A giant shield that comes in spiked, bladed, and very heavy versions, some more offensive some more defensive, the heavy ones can inflict stuns like hammers and completely block all but the super attacks but it would be slow to move and dodge.

I just think SnS largely covers that playstyle already. I think it would have to do something fairly different in order to be worth including.

make it be able to block super attacks as one of its gimmicks

flail weapon

One or some of them need to be the Witch King's massive flail.

charged sword mode sucks cause the sword movest on charged blade sucks. You just go in that mode for refills and guard points.
No I don't spam SAED.

Think BIGGER.
Its big enough you're basically throwing the weight at the monster and pulling yourself to it with the chain. You use attacks to reposition rather than regular dodges.

What's better than one shield? TWO shields.

Oh that would be sick, kind of like the Insect Glaive's vault except you're swinging so hard you become airborne.

Well that's the thing, you're always attacking with both arms and blocking with both arms with the weapons that can, it's more like Dual Blades but with quadruple weapons (hands and feet) and depending on the weapons you can half-shield or full-shield.

hurty bits = red

armored bits = orange

speedy bits = white

Lance and SnS are the best weapons cause they're the closest to being a boxer.

I've maintained the view that a more modest implement of Tonfa would fit into mainline decently.

inb4magpsike

That was the EoL weapon.

Tonfas would be cool, they could have an ability where as part of or at the end of a combo they add a burst from explosives inside the tonfa that shoot out the end of them onto the monster.

Not inherently the same but the Tonfa's Storm moveset (which puts emphasis on it being miniature pilebunkers) did exactly that for a given motion.

Oh nice. Actually, are there weapon classes that have only appeared in one or a few of the games?

I love playing Lance when you can get into the rhythm of never having to move as you just counter and block. When a monster lets you be the perfect WALL there is no other game or weapon that can match it.

magent spike could be cool if you toned it down

I would play the shit out of it if it was just called Glaive

Yes, Tonfa and Magnet Spike. The former is a moderately fast blunt weapon (that eats sharpness even faster than DB) with aerial capabilities that were probably planned ahead, given some monsters' hitboxes. The latter is a transforming weapon with cutting/impact forms and a magnetic marker to manipulate positioning with, but can be played in one mode for the entire hunt if so desired.

Frontier also got styles before Gen did in the earlier part of its life, which were basically partial moveset replacements of varying usefulness. Tonfa and also Switch Axe (F) were introduced a good deal later, so the styles actually shuffled their mechanics significantly until everyone got Extreme style, that became the standard from there (and a merger of all three). Magspike came out a year before the servers closed and was a fairly low skill floor weapon, though by that time Tonfa was overbuffed with an absolutely degenerate playstyle.

Explore (a mobage) had Accel Axe, which similarly had a good bit of distance control. In any case, people are thirsty as fuck for a new weapon considering CB and IG are more than a decade old at this point, less ridiculous versions of weapons from EoL'd games especially come to mind since they actually existed. Probably doesn't help that Capcom can't even balance the current 14 weapons properly worth a shit, though.

I'd play it if it was just called Insect.

Why do people keep saying only red and white matter? Idk when you have all 3 it feels way better than when you only have 2
