Daggerfall City — Home

Why can't modern ES have cities with this many buildings again?

walking home after a long night of drinking at the pub

"vengeance"

wtf was that-

creation engine couldn't handle it

it will, Starfield was a tech demo for procedural generation that will be used in TES VI

It is no longer allowed.

Daggerfall seems like the definition of quantity over quality

this made boomers shit and cum their pants

Why would you want them to? It's just a bunch of generic buildings with zero character.

as opposed to 5 generic buildings with zero character

it was cutting edge for the time and a vast improvement over arena

Just like how in real life you'll never enter 90% of the buildings in your town
It still makes it feel more real

""""capital""""" """""""""""city"""""""""""""

has five or six buildings tops

This is like saying GTA games shouldn't include more than a handful of buildings since you never enter all of them. Come on, anon. Don't do Todd's dirty work for him.

You can't defeat him...

Actually I prefer the smaller cities in Bethesda games because it feels more hand crafted and personal

The insane sense of scale you get from Daggerfall's world is great, even if it's almost entirely randomly-generated

I think they should repurpose assets from Starfield since they are so well detailed it would be a waste to only have them in one game

I honestly would prefer a smaller gta map if it meant the world was more detailed and every building had interiors

Imagine how cool it would be if Elder Scrolls VI: Skyrim II was actually AA instead of AAA. That would mean we could get an Elder Scrolls and a Fallout 5 within the span of the next 6 years. That's like double dipping in fun.

The thing is you can have handcrafted content among immersive procgen and its probably the best of both worlds
A lot of TES is pretty close to procgen already being carelessly thrown together with prefabs with some notes and halfassed "enivronmental storytelling" sprinkled around
The games are just arbitrarily small so players don't get overwhelmed and also because creation engine would absolutely shit itself (more than it does already)

what if GTA was smaller and you had actual stuff to do in the game instead of just crashing cars into prostitutes

it's called Yakuza

The thing is you can have handcrafted content among immersive procgen and its probably the best of both worlds

I sure do love looking through an entire life size procgen city trying to find the single handcrafted npc with a questline hiding in it

have to walk 10 minutes passing "Villager A" houses to get to an actual named NPC's actual handwritten, non-radiant quest

Procgen faggots stay away

instead in TESVI you will get a tiny procgen city with procgen npcs and quests in it

Average nuBethtard IQ here

love me horse, actually get to ride it for more than 2 minutes

to understand procgen you have to get over the FOMO mindset instilled by modern games that make you feel compelled to talk to every single npc and check under every single rock in the overworld. there are ways to guide the player to important things.

have to walk 10 minutes passing "Villager A" houses to get to an actual named NPC's actual handwritten, non-radiant quest

So something that feels like real life?

This, and this is why the cities in Witcher 3 are pretty damn good. Sure, you don't get to ransack every single hovel in there, but who cares? You get to enter a lot of buildings and most importantly the cities feel like there are hundreds of apartments all around you.

there are ways to guide the player to important things.

Yep. By having an arrow on the screen that leads the player to the next cinematic level-scaled event

I solved the ghost problem, I'm a big damn hero you guys I found a daedric wakazashi and I've got a magical loincloth that turns me into the Flash

It's gonna have that either way so may as well have the scope of the game be somewhat immersive too.

You still don't get the underlying problem.
Procedural generation isn't art. A computer can't be an artist.

Why doesn't Bethesda just pay pennies for autistic Morrowind modders to carefuly handcraft every inch of the map

art

What does that have to do with the Elder Scrolls

le anti-AI crusader inventing any reason to post seethe

grow up

GOOD MORNING SAAR THE NEXT SCROLL GAME PLEASE COME TO INDIA

ai will be a crucial part of all future game development (including wayward realms) and there's nothing you can do about it
thoughts?

all future game development

was already hopelessly shit before AIjeets were even on the table

Superior genre of games that are strategy games successfully used procedural generation decades ago, without so called "AI" and for a good reason. RPG should finally try to catch up with strategy games, instead of always being in their shadow

What do they eat?

Food

towns are actual town size and not just a dozen buildings, no loading to enter/exit town

giant multi-floor dungeons with 0 loading between floors

classes are actual classes that affect how you play and aren't just presets that determine your starting stats, skill levels, and what contributes to leveling up

diseases are actually deadly and not just temporary stat debuffs

finding magic gear is actually rare and not just handed out like candy

Recall and Levitate are the two most useful spells in the franchise

can climb walls

can break locks to force your way through doors

can actually be sentenced to death for your crimes

has the most detailed fast travel settings in the series (cautiously/recklessly, sleeping outside or stopping at inns, on foot/horse or ship(which you can pay to travel on or buy one yourself), mage guild teleportation)

money has weight and there's a whole banking system for getting/paying off loans, buying/selling houses or ships, and transferring money between different regions

has various holidays throughout the year, most are purely for flavor while the rest are for daedric quests

the only game to have multiple endings

Daggerfall rapes the rest of the franchise in terms of quality.

cities have gotten smaller with every entry in the series. in Arena the must be tokyo sized

SAME AS IT EVER WAS

it was both when it came out, 40 years ago

Daggerfall rapes the rest of the franchise in terms of quality.

You meant quantity, though it's not like there's been any bethesda games renowned for quality

Least it was till Todd fucked it up

yea that's not art because uh... le random and uh... tools and uh...

ARTIST DOESN'T DIRECTLY TOUCH THE PIECE SO IT IS NOT ART and uh...

there is no like control.... or uh Player feedback????!??!!

it's just generated!!!

Quantity and quality.

though it's not like there's been any bethesda games renowned for quality

Normalfags believe Skyrim to be one of the highest quality games of all time.
