Was it that bad ?

lets say you never played and wanna give a try in 2025..is it decent ?

Play it and form your own opinion.

no

I love it, it's my favorite FF combat system.

It's alright. The hype for 7th gen FF game was ridiculous at the time and it failed to deliver, hence the status of a hated game. Looking back and comparing it to other 7th gen JRPGs, I'd say it's one of the better ones (not a very high bar).

Yes. Unironically ff13 has prevented me from ever trusting a game before release ever again. Went to the midnight launch and everything. Least favorite game of all time. 13-2 is okay.

fuck no, it's even more up its own ass and boring than 16

Lightning was named after how god smites. It’s a cuckolding metaphor because god actually spends his omnipotence on torture. Thats not cool but what can we even do?

I liked it, graphics were gorgeous, music as good as you would expect from the franchise and gameplay if it clicked for you was addictive, I actually liked it more than the sequels, 2 was better in every way but it didn't do it for me and LR has amazing gameplay but it was budget as fuck and I hate time limits.

Square didn't help themselves with the expectation by marketing this as the next FF7. Prior games didn't help, 10-2 and 12 were a letdown to many fans at the time and the hopes were set on this game to bring it back. So I guess it hit extra hard when it didn't.

never played it through
had the depression

It's got one of the best soundtracks and looks great visually. Animations in combat too are great.

Combat is ok for one playthrough. You don't do much but change the classes on characters and wait on a stagger bar. But it's tolerable for one time.

Very linear. Only little open areas at the end but the hard stuff there is gated to post game extra grinding. Not worth necessarily.

Play it one time lad.

a lot of the planned game was cut and it's pretty linear as a result of the multiplat release
much of the missing content made its way into FF13-2

I'd say play 13-1 in anticipation of the much better 13-2

Stagger bars are the worst mechanic that continues to plague final fantasy

Put down your weed and old shopping bag for a sec. Listen to this. A girl and she’s named lightning. Alright that’s not that hard to figure out. It’s 33rd degree Freemason Illuminati symbolism from the times of the pyramids, when UFOs roamed the planet looking for giants to abduct. My genes are giant in origin, we have an enlarged occipital bun which gives us extremely high intelligence, and massive bodies.

Stagger bars are just adds with an enrage timer. Without a DPS check there’s like no skill at all. I see your point about stagger mechanics being tiring, but you’re just not playing correctly. Some abilities stagger more than others. Its literally no different than a standard enemy, except you can’t face roll them as easily.

If you like lightning(cuckolding) and the concept of a cocoon city(another cuckolding metaphor) then you’re probably somebody who has sex a lot.

It's okay. Not the best. Not the worst. Very middle of the road. Sequels were completely unnecessary though as the first game ties everything up nicely.

it's garbage. not worth it. life is too short to play trash on purpose.

file.png - 469x141, 55.53K

It just adds a layer of tedium to the concept of an enemy health bar. It's really not too bad in XIII and XIII-2, but it is fucking shit in the 7 remakes and especially XVI

cuckoon

Great game if you are stoned cuz the music and the babes tho

I played 24 hours of this trash and no it was not worth it

It was a joke about cocoon mode (staying inside) which was a meme going around a lot online at the time, probably posted it themselves lol they literally post the memes themselves and nobody even notices or if they notice they don’t say anything. The guy who posts them is inside my house and he’s been fucking sexually abusing me.

If I can stagger the enemy should be able to stagger me too. As it is its too balanced in favor of the player. Same rules for both of us like Pokemon or game is gay and casualized.

exp.png - 894x627, 923K

I played it recently. Its been a long time since I played it and hated it on release, it's time to give it another chance. Plus, I know the story is trash and makes no sense so I'll skip all the cutscenes . It'll be great! It was still garbage

the lore is kinda cool about the gods and shit, its all puppets you are being puppetereed by some kino beautiful ancestral regal looking outergods that are sociopaths for one bigger god that is the ultimate psychopath control freak
its kinda lovecraftian in a way but they're not Octopus Aliens.

no, not really. Later games were somewhat based even if the plot is retarded because lightning grooms a shota into her husband, but aside from that, its a very linear game. You walk down some hallways, do a few random battles, watch the next cutscene, and repeat for about 60 hours.

no, not really. Later games were somewhat based even if the plot is retarded because lightning grooms a shota into her husband

Wait what the fuck why nobody told me about this??? Based???

bad story that basically validated the stereotype of JRPGs doing clumsy exposition with Proper Noun Spam

combat system is stagger bar-cancer, has continued to plague Final Fantasy to this day

most interesting and charming party members play bit parts and are sidelined for the Lightning and Hope show

FF13's best contribution to the JRPG canon was a lot of game press in the year following its release was saying "hey if you were disappointed by FF13 give Xenoblade Chronicles a shot." The only thing keeping it from being seen as the absolute nadir of the franchise is that FF15 and FF16 did nothing to stop Final Fantasy's downward spiral either and most people have pretty much memoryholed that this game had two whole ass sequels on top of the perpetual push to try to put Lightning on the same level as FF's golden age characters.

with Proper Noun Spam

Fal'Cie (the bad guys God Regal Alien things)
L'Cie (the branded tattoo people that have a focus given by the higher ranking Fal'Cie they do this by making contact with the will of Bhunevelze that is still out there somewhere between dimensions)

The story is lovecraftian horror. But falsely made seem all "divine" and beautiful & like your destiny is not some sociopathic god's plan that doesn't give a fuck about humanity all along. It's great its subversive.

It was okay, that was the problem

FF4-10 were all standout classics. FFX-2 and 12 were both decent but not amazing. FF13 was the first one that was just okay. I think it doesn't quite deserve the hate but it receives it because it was a sign that FF was going in a bad direction

It's kind of like St. Anger - Metallica have released worse slop since then, but St. Anger gets all the hate because it was the point at which fans realised it wasn't just one or two meh albums, the band were starting to suck directionally

graphics were gorgeous

goodmorningsaar

Well I recently found a japanese copy for 10€ recently and decided to go through it again and it's still rather shit. It has a 2-chapters long tutorial during which any battle that you fight doesn't matter at all since it's not until after that you even gain the ability to gain EXP, or CP as it is in this game called. That alone takes an hour or two if you don't skip the cutscenes.
At the end of chapter 2 your to-be party members inadvertantly meet and get a mission, 使命、focus i think in the localization, but no one is sure what it is. Then you are on rails with what I think is maybe the biggest fallback of the game – that is being restricted to 2 party members through most of chapters 4 through 9. Whatever there is to play with the paradigm system is very stifled by being restricted to 2 parthy members at a time. If you can get past that you may have fun.

Game is pretty as hell up to the case where the logo has that nice shiny effect to it that you can't really see it here.

The hype for 7th gen FF game was ridiculous at the time and it failed to deliver, hence the status of a hated game.

This is pretty much true. Many complaints for FF13 was that it wasn't open world game since that was the popular trend at the time in gaming. Hence why the next mainline FF(FF14 doesn't count) aka FF15 went open world despite clearly not working well.

They are hoping on the wrong trends at the wrong time like retards. rn things retvrned to favoriing Turn Based Combat but amplified and expanded upon THEY ARE NOT gonna capitalize Square Enix is slow asf and retarded. Besides a Final Fantasy needs a master piece story or no go.

They should go with Nomura's war on terror commentary, human nature as demonic and other ones. those are great ideas to make a plot around.

FF15 or versus XIII wasn't supposed to be the next numbered title for a long time. Maybe it was supposed to be a counterpoint to the linearity of XIII, versus and all that we'll never know.
It's now just linearity that's a problem with XIII, I don't think linearity in itself is a bad thing but it just does a very poor job of presenting its world and characters that's the fundamental failure.

it's not just*

When are they going to rerelease the FFXIII trilogy? I'd play it again when that occurs.

I apologize, Lightning-sama. Please come back, we did not know how good we had it.

13 is absolutely terrible but 15 and 16 are even worse. 13-2 is a very decent game

I remember a lot of press, even from Square-Enix, made a big deal about a woman MC heading a Final Fantasy game(as opposed to FF6's ensemble or FFX2 being an unprecedented wacky sequel).
Sometime in the future there'll be a review headline talking about a flagship Final Fantasy game having a female MC that thankfully isn't Lightning.

They didn't plan to port it to the 360 until the last minute when ir became clear the console was being outsold at the time

The linearity was due to them spending 5 years developing a whole new engine from scratch, which was supposed to do everything, therefore it couldn't do anything.

After 4 years with nothing playable and more art assets than they could fit on a single blu-ray, Square put their foot down and demanded they make a demo.

They developed a combat system to match the intro train heist cutscene they made years ago, and spent the next 18 months building the game around that verticle slice. All they could do was string the party from one art asset to the next to match what was in the cutscenes they had

Even the english localization staff said Square's management was a clusterfuck. They were asked to translate unfinished scripts as they were written instead of waiting for a final version. They would call up the Japanese staff for the latest version and everyone they talked to would have a different version of the script.

female MC

dropped

b27.jpg - 798x644, 41.03K

it went all downhill from there

13 was garbage but the sequels are decent

lets say you never played and wanna give a try in 2025

I wouldn't have even made it to Bart 1 before losing interest

After the disaster that was FF12 yes FF13 is like a breath of fresh air and the sequels just keep getting better.

FFXIII has one of the greatest JRPG soundtracks of all time. The composer COOKED on this one but no one wants to give the composer his roses because everyone is too negative about the game. So instead of it being in the Top 3 FF game OSTs of all time it's sitting on the sideline and people just say "it's good but not great"

It's solid and looks amazing and the soundtrack is phenomenal too. I wouldn't say it's great, definitely one of the weaker FF games, but the hate it gets is overblown.

We're already seeing content creators go back and praise the game now. Probably because the new shit square makes is garbage compared to XIII. Forspoken, FF15, FF16. XIII looks weeb as fuck when you place it next to these games to the point I would argue Square has lost their identity

I reasonably enjoyed the game. it's a unique 7.5/10 game. people overhate it because weeb obsessive autism.

it's obnoxiously linear

you get the full team at 15 hours

don't be afraid to look up story summary whenever you are lost

the story on paper is good but the director was mid

the real goal of the game (post end) is to 5-star all the Hunts/Missions

ignore the sequels

I played it a few years ago but still years after it's original release.
It was with no exaggeration one of the worst AAA game I have ever played. I struggle to think or any redeeming qualities other than the one scene where the crew was flying on bahamut.

And I do not think this is a game that somehow magically gets better or looked at fondly over time. It was probably shit when it released. It was shit when I played it. And it will probably remain shit in the future.

13 7/10
13-2 9/10 but people sleep on it
LR 8.510 (game) feat. 10/10 (combat) seriously I miss when square was godlike at jrpg combat mechanics

I actually think it does not get enough hate. Too many people defends this game. If it was not an FF it would have been promptly forgotten. Which is the fate of many much more deserving jrpgs.

Problem is the hate expressed usually does not adequately explain how bad it truly is.

I actually think it does not get enough hate. Too many people defends this game.

the fuck were you when the game came out?

this game is so boring
even a kid with ADHD would rather solve maths problems then play this sad excuse for a video game

13-2 9/10 but people sleep on it

it's a 7 at best. no on sleeps on it, some of you shill to the point no one takes you seriously.

tiny maps, even smaller open areas than the original

no real cities or shops

simplified battle system

cramped 2 stories in one game by forcing a sequel to XIII

Too many people defends this game.

calling it a 7/10 is not defending it. it's just that in the obsessive weeb mind games can be either 0 or 10.

ikr. Everyone is saying the game is average at best and this retard is still mad lmao

nta but i disagree with giving this game a rating of 7 because it has good music and art when it's so unbearable to play you won't give a shit about either of those things.
the experience of playing this game is miserable and the revisionism that it's actually le good is crazy talk. it's awful.

Where the fuck are you right now? Look at the amount of people going "it wasn't that bad". It was 'that bad'. Even back on release there were people defending the game. It should have been universally panned.

It was NOT a 7 unless you are going by ign scaling. This game was bad not in a meme 'it was not a 9/10 way'. It was genuinely bad.

Exactly. Too many people give it a pass for the FF name, production value, graphics and alright music.

XIII (XIII-2, and probably also LR) has a phenomenal OST that doesn’t get enough credit, like you said. Absolutely beautiful music.

alright music

You are full of shit and so are you ears.

*your

I liked it enough to finish it so I can play the sequel

I'm sorry. It had a couple of genuinely good tracks but it was not on the level of any ost made by Uematsu, or tri-Crescendo, or most other SE games like the KH series.
They also endlessly used, reused and remixed the two good melody they had. It got boring towards the end. Two good tracks is not enough to qualify as a goot ost.

decent

No. It's sequels are actually better.

lightning returns was magnitudes better than 13 or 13-2

more interesting story

more interesting setting

gameplay is actual peak of the franchise

alright music.

this faggot is deaf af

One of the biggest pieces of shit I've ever played

graphics hold up

30 hours of the game feel like a tutorial

the characters suck

the story is retarded

no freedom in builds

bosses are puzzles more than fights

the combat system is dogshit and once it clicks, you'll destroy everything that isn't a boss because again, bosses are puzzles that need specific strats to beat

game sucks monkey dick

People shit on FF15 and 16 for not being turn based but 13 is infinitely worse than both of them.

lightningfag keeps trying to get a discussion going about this tumor on the FF franchise

It's shit, accept it. The characters are lame, gameplay is boring, and it's the only FF with a female as the central, main character. What a coincidence. FF6 doesn't count with Terra because all characters have their own place as a main character.

To be fair. 13 wasn't turned based either. I don't even know what it was going for. It was shit.

TIME IS FLYING BY
THE ONLY MOMENT IS NOW
ONLY MOMENT IS NOW
FEEL LIKE EVERYTHING IS REAL
EVERYTHING IS REAAAL IN DREEEEEAM

GOOOOOING TO A
TRIIIIP TOOO SOMEEEWHEREEE
ACROSS TIME AAAAAND SPACE !!!

Was it that bad ?

Yes

is it decent ?

No.

but the hate it gets is overblown.

It's not hated anywhere near enough. Anyone defending that abortion of a game hasn't played it.

this gives my Phantasy Star Online/Star Ocean/Xenosaga vibes

FFXIII is secret kino but you have to be in a certain mood to appreciate the XIII series. You need to be high, full volume headphones with good sound and occasionally goon to the girls.

I really love XIII-2

it runs like ABSOLUTELY shit on pc, I had to refund it after trying it with several patches..

crashes at random

20-30fps at 1080p

yeah Id rather emulate it at this point

playing pc versions

fake ffxiii enjoyer. but anyway I heard the community patch and enhanced them with some really great graphical mods
