From Software games fundamentally are designed in a way where the narrative and characterization cannot be explored and fleshed out in a coventional film or television format. If this isn't just BS, it'll likely be a disaster.

They don't need any deep story or loads of character depth. They just need a warrior travelling a world that looks like the lands between, "cool" boss fight scenes, and characters that look like they do in the games with references to the basic common lore knowledge and thematics surrounding them.
It would be no different to any other fanstasy adventure film that gets released.

Pretty much this. FromSoft’s whole storytelling appeal is environmental, vague, and interpretive—people spend hours piecing it together because that's the fun. Turn it into a film and you either alienate new viewers with cryptic nonsense or flatten the mystery into a generic fantasy narrative. Best-case scenario, it's visually cool and that's about it.
Same way any other video game adaptation works - find an old script (fantasy in this case) that didn't get made into a movie, replace the names then ship it. Like Halo, Castlevania, DMC etc

It really wouldnt be hard to just make 1.5h of "man goes around sneaking around brutally killing zombie looking soldier guys and fighting large monstermen (margit, godrick,etc) with said monstermen saying a couple epic sounding cryptic things"

The game was made by throwing together assets from the public asset library. Vaati and others provided the schizophrenia to create the illusion of depth/meaning, handy for making a story. Most of the devs are looking forward to finding out what the game they made is about.
